three-dimensional data in various Microsoft products, such as Word, PowerPoint, and Internet Explorer Visualisations such as real-time rotation and zooming are possible with the streaming file embedded into one of these products Requirements Prior to proceeding with this tutorial, you will need: • Surpac 6.0 or later installed • The dataset to be used for visualisation Objectives The objective of this tutorial is to allow you to create streaming files and embed them into various other file formats Workflow The process described in this tutorial is outlined below: Page of 16 streaming file Requirements Prior to performing the exercises in this chapter, you will need: • Surpac 6.0 or later installed • A dataset, such as Surpac DTMs, string files, etc Page of 16 Creating a Streaming File Setting the Work Directory Setting the Work Directory A work directory is the default directory for saving Surpac files Files used in this tutorial are stored in the folder: \demo_data\surpac_demo where is the directory in which Surpac was installed In the Surpac Navigator, right-click the surpac_demo folder On the popup menu, select Set as work directory The name of the work directory is displayed in the title bar at the top of the Surpac window Page of 16 Creating a Streaming File Display the Dataset in Graphics Display the Dataset in Graphics A streaming file is created from all data currently visible in graphics In this example you will use a dataset installed with Surpac You may use any data Open project.swa You can double click the icon next to the filename or drag and drop the file from the Navigator into graphics You should see several DTMs and string files as shown Project.swa Page of 16 Creating a Streaming File Export Streaming File Export Streaming File Choose File > Save to Stream Control Enter the information as shown, and then click Apply Two files are created in the working directory: design.hsf and design.html Page of 16 Viewing a Streaming File in HTML Viewing the HTML file Viewing a Streaming File in HTML Overview The following concepts will be presented in this chapter: Opening an HTML file containing a streaming file Installing the driver Viewing the data in the streaming file Requirements Prior to performing the exercises in this chapter, you should have: • • • a *.hsf file created previously a *.html file which refers to the *.hsf file Internet Explorer v6.0 or later Viewing the HTML file • From Windows Explorer, double click on the filename to open the file design.html Installing the Driver If you have not previously viewed any hsf files on your computer, you will be prompted to install the driver from the form below • Note: Click Install Note: Depending on the speed of your modem, it may take a while to download and install the driver software The file is approximately 2.2 Megabytes so on a 56Kbits/sec modem it will take approximately 200 000 bytes / 5600 bytes/second = 392 seconds = 6.5 minutes Page of 16 Viewing a Streaming File in HTML Viewing Data Viewing Data Once the driver installation is completed, the data will display in the Internet Explorer Click and drag in the viewport to spin the data in three dimensions Right-click anywhere on the image, and a popup menu is displayed: Select Zoom, and then click and drag in the viewport to zoom the data Some options, such as the Shadow, are a toggle function The Window Color option will allow you to set different background colours for the upper and lower halves of the viewport Page 10 of 16 Embedding and Viewing a Streaming File in Viewing a streaming file in Microsoft Word Requirements Prior to performing the exercises in this chapter, you should have: • a *.hsf file created by Surpac • Installed the streaming file driver • Microsoft Word installed Embedding a Streaming File in Word Open a new or existing Word document Position the cursor where you want the file embedded Choose Insert > Object From the Create New tab, select Surpac Minex Stream Control Class, and then click OK Page 11 of 16 Embedding and Viewing a Streaming File in Word Embedding a Streaming File in Word A window will appear within the Word document Right-click inside the window and select Properties On the Properties table, enter the following: Embed: enter the value File name: the full path of the file needs to be inserted, for example: c:\surpacminex\surpac_60\demo_data\surpac_demo\design.hsf On the Control Toolbox, select the Exit Design Mode icon: You will see the image embedded in Word: Page 12 of 16 Embedding and
