Date of preparing: 23/ 09/ 14 Date of teaching: 30/ 09/ 14 (class 7a4, 7a3, 7a1, 7a2) Period16 UNIT3 COMMUNITY SERVICE LESSON1 GETTING STARTED I Objectives: By the end of the lesson, Ss will be able to: - Knowledge: Use lexical items related to community service & volunteer work know how to talk about health problems - Skills: Practice reading & speaking skills about community’ activities (Ind PW, GW) - Attitude: Co-operation & more careful with caring of themselves II Teaching aid: Textbook, pictures, colorful chalks … III Methods: Communicative approach, audio-lingual method, 3p, ESA, lexical approach … IV Procedures Activities Contents Activity (5 minutes) 1.Purpose : - This activity focuses students on recalling activities that people can to help community 2.Instruction: - You make a list of activities related to community 3.Task : - Work in group to write as many activities as possible Group Group Planting trees, Helping old people, Activity (15 minutes) 1.Purpose: ( Task 1,2) This activity focuses students on knowing more about community service 2.Instruction: - T can ask some brainstorm questions & introduce some words related to some community activities What can you see in the picture? Who you think they are? What are they talking about? …… - donate (v) - Listen & recall information from the listening 3.Task - Students work individual then compare - Some ss present their work and others provide comment *T play the recording twice - Sts listen and as directed *suggested: - Global Citizen is the name of the radio programme - Hai Ba Trung school is the school where Mai and Phuc go to - Be a buddy is the organization that Mai is from - Go green is the organization that Phuc is from Exe1a T/ F? => 1T 2T 3T 4F 5T Exe1b Answer => People donate books and clothes to street children, and that makes a different (how books& clothes can help to better the children’s lives/ makes a different means doing sth good, especially to improve a situation) + 3: free answers Exe2 Put the words in the right groups Nouns verbs Adjectives Help, Donate, help, benefit, Clean, benefit, volunteer, recycle, plant, environmental volunteer, provide, clean, encourage plant - SS add some more words into each group Activity 15 minutes 1.Purpose (task 3, 4, 5) - This activity focuses students on reviewing words related to activities that people can to help community 2.Instruction: - You fill in the gaps with the words in the box 3.Task: - SS individual or in pairs, then compare - Ss in groups =>suggested answers Exe3 volunteer homeless people donate community service make a different Exe4 donate plant help clean recycle Exe5 donate: books, blood, money, clothes, toys… help: children, homeless people, old people, the poor… clean: streets, walls, lakes, rivers, beaches… provide: food, attention, life skills, education, houses, help, books… Activity minutes 1.Purpose (task 6) - This activity focuses students on reviewing vocabularies in the lesson 2.Instruction: - T makes model game with a student 3.Task: - Ss play game as instructed: in pairs =>suggested answers Ex A provide B food A homeless people B help Consolidation (3 minutes) Homework (2minutes) Teacher’s remarks Students practice saying as many words about community as possible Ex Donate/ Go Green……… - Learn new words - Prepare : A closer look Date of preparing: 26/ 09/ 14 Date of teaching: 03/ 10/ 14 (class 7a3, 7a4, 7a1, 7a2) Period17 UNIT3 COMMUNITY SERVICE LESSON2 A CLOSER LOOK I Objectives: By the end of the lesson, Ss will be able to: - Knowledge: Use lexical items related to community service & volunteer works that they can to help the people who need the help from the community service - Skills: Practice speaking & listening skills about community’ activities (Ind PW, GW) - Attitude: Co-operation & more careful with caring of themselves II Teaching aid: Textbook, pictures, colorful chalks … III Methods: Communicative approach, audio-lingual method, 3p, ESA, lexical approach … IV Procedures Activities Contents Activity (5 minutes) 1.Purpose : (task 1) - This activity focuses students on noticing the picture & the words to describe each picture 2.Instruction: - You make a list of people who need the help of community service & what difficulties these people face & what they need 3.Task : - Work in group / Ind Situation: Children in mountainous areas who not have enough books What difficulties they face? What they need? … Exe1 Matching:  disable people elderly people homeless people sick children people in flooded areas Activity (19 minutes) 1.Purpose : (task 2, 3) - This activity focuses students on speaking about the people in the situations & pictures 2.Instruction: - You discuss how you can help people in the situations in - Write down which problems each community has to face - Present before class about the problems in 3a 3.Task : - Work in group/ pairs Situation: Children in mountainous areas who not have enough books What difficulties they face? What they need? … Exe1 Matching:  Exe2 Describing the people in & how we can help them Ex Activity (15 minutes) Activity ( minutes) Consolidation (2 minutes) Homework (1minutes) Teacher’s remarks A They are in a flooded area They not have enough food for days (They will run out of food in days) B Poor them! A We can help by using public transport 1.Purpose : (task 4, 5, 6) -This activity focuses students on practicing listening to the sounds /g/ and /k/ 2.Instruction: - You listen & repeat the words have the sounds /g/ & /k/ - You listen & circle the words you hear - You listen & repeat the sentences 3.Task : - Repeat in chorus - Read again individually - You write down some words that have the sounds /g/ & /k/ Exe  /g/: green, girl, goal /k/: cold, clothes *Some more words: go, close, cook, glass, … 1.Purpose : (task - game) - This activity focuses students on practicing the sound /g/ & /k/ 2.Instruction: - You play game: sit down: /k/; stand up: /g/ One st calls out word from 4& group performs the action according to the sound they hear (textbook – page 29) 3.Task : - Work in group / Ind (free) Students practice saying again some activities they can to help the community (as much as possible) - Learn new words - Prepare : A closer look Date of preparing: 26/ 09/ 14 Date of teaching: 07/ 10/ 14 (class 7a4, 7a3, 7a1, 7a2) Period17 UNIT3 COMMUNITY SERVICE LESSON2 A CLOSER LOOK I Objectives: By the end of the lesson, Ss will be able to: - Knowledge: + Understand the difference between the past simple and the present perfect + Use the time expressions that go with the past simple and the present perfect - Skills: + Practice listening and speaking with the lexical items related to the topic “community service” - Attitude: Co-operation & more responsible with the environment II Teaching aid: Textbook, pictures, colorful chalks … III Methods: Communicative approach, audio-lingual method, 3p, ESA, lexical approach … IV Procedures Activities Contents
