General strategies Maximize your exposure to English Set out a certain amount of time everyday for English & IELTS Create an IELTS community around you Plan ahead Listening Test Overview How many Qs? Any other notes? How many Q types? • How many parts? How long? • • Time is given before each section to read the questions, and after to check your answers You only get to listen once Answers come in order (i.e #3 after #2 after #1) Listening Test Part One: 2 speakers in an everyday social situation, asking questions and getting information • e.g Dinding out about travel services Part Two: 1 speaker in an everyday social situation, giving information • e.g giving a speech about some new facilities or giving information about a tour or event Part Three: 2-‐4 speakers in an educational situation, discussing • e.g students talking about a lecture they attended Part Four: 1 speaker in an educational situation, giving information • e.g a university lecture Reading Test Overview How many Qs? Any other notes? How many Q types? How many parts? How long? Listening & reading • Get yourself familiar with all the question types • Read instructions carefully • Underline key words in the questions • Predict answer pattern • Never leave any answer blank • After listening: transfer answers & check for spelling, grammar, order of answers Stay focused!
