Giving Advice Lesson Mix Level High School Boys / Class size: 36 Engage (10min) - VIDEO from PPT: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IjDPbHO3yl4 Play students the video about advice They should take notes (write the different ways of giving advice) When they are finished ask them what the problem was Write it on the board Then ask them what the advice is Get students to use many of the different ways to give advice used in the video I usually concentrate on and right them down on the board Study and Activate) (15-20 min) : -With classes of 36, I split the class in two With smaller classes I keep them all together -Give one group of students strips of paper Some papers have a problem and some have advice The students must walk around and find the person with the matching paper They should this by talking and listening for the matching advice or problem Example: I am always late for school What should I do? Why don’t you leave earlier? -The other students should write down three problems in their life Then they should tell their partner and ask “What should I do?” Their partner should give them advice They write down the advice in their notebook They can this in pairs or small groups -When each half of the class has finished their activity, they then the other activity until both halves have finished getting advice from their partners and done the activity with the cards Check understanding (10 – 15 min) POWERPOINT review: Students review how to give advice Students take turns practicing giving advice with the pictures in the PowerPoint (Whole class) You could give points to groups who give good advice to make it more competitive if your students like that You don’t have to skip a picture when someone gives advice Ask the class if anyone has another idea ACTIVATE again (10 minutes) : Let students walk around the class with their original problems Ask everyone for advice When the students sit down, you can ask them who gave them the best advice Cut out the problems and the advice Laminate them and pass them out to the students, giving them only one card with either a problem or advice on it I am always tired What should I do?
