visit art galleries? 3.What kinds of things you like to draw? 4.Is it easy to learn how to draw? ut or in g/ Yes, I I think it’s interesting, but I don’t know how to draw well When I was a child, I would always draw something by myself, but I have never received professional training If I have the opportunity, I want to learn some painting skills he St ar T I go to the art gallery nearly every week I prefer visiting the art gallery because I’m crazy about art I like abstract paintings best, so I will never miss any exhibition of abstract art held in the art gallery, and I will always find inspiration from it and create my art work co m /T I like painting very much, as I am an animated film buff, I always draw my favorite cartoon figures in my leisure time ht s: //w w w fa ce bo ok In my opinion, the ability of painting depends mainly on talents For me, I am naturally good at painting When I was a child, I could draw without teachers’ guidance But for some other people, drawing is really a big headache, and they’ll find it really difficult to master this skill www.facebook.com/TheStarTutoringCompany Tel: +61 478 764 364 Describe an old thing that your family has kept for a long time You should say what the object is where it came from how long it has been in your family ut or in g/ Sample answer: ar T I bought an exquisite Murano glass figurine of Pegasus when I traveled to Venice //w w w fa ce bo ok co m /T he St It is about twelve inches high, massive and gorgeously-wrought sculpted glass with real gold spun through the wings, mane, and tail I fell in love with it when I saw it at the glass factory It was said to be 50 years old and thus hideously expensive, but I rationalized that it would be my one souvenir from that first European trip So I put it on my credit card and had it shipped to China ht s: My precious artwork arrived a few weeks after I returned home I unwrapped it and placed it carefully on a bookshelf in my new apartment I stood and admired it, then went to open the blinds so the sun could hit it, miscalculated my reach and knocked Pegasus right onto my newly waxed hardwood floor Of course, it broke, but not completely That was the worst part Both wings broke off, and one front leg was shattered But my mother thought it might be salvageable She found a glass artist in Shanghai who did his best to repair it And he did a fair job But I could never see it the same way again When I looked at it, I only saw how lovely it had been before my clumsiness ruined it It hurt to have broken Pegasus in my living room So I packed it away I still have it Five years later I have never re-opened the box, but I can’t bring myself to throw it away www.facebook.com/TheStarTutoringCompany Tel: +61 478 764 364 Describe a short journey that you disliked you should say: where you went who you went with what you did and explain why you disliked this journey Sample answer: he St ar T ut or in g/ I like visiting famous places, and whenever I get a vacation, I try to visit new places or places that I have heard about One such trip that I took with one of my friends was a journey to Holland I would like to talk about this tour to Holland that we took two years age //w w w fa ce bo ok co m /T Both of us (me and my friend) wanted to visit Holland and specifically Amsterdam, Hague, and Rotterdam very much because we saw pictures and heard stories from friends about how beautiful and wonderful the place is So finally we applied for a visa, bought plane tickets, booked a hotel, packed our bags, and our trip began ht s: We spent a lot of time before our holiday, researching of all the interesting places to visit and all the sights to see So we went to Rijks museum, Van Gogh museum, Amstel Beer Museum, took a romantic sunset cruise in the water channels, drove to Volendam, a small prettiest fisherman village, visited a cheese farm We went to Rotterdam, which is the architecture city of Holland that stimulates innovation But the journey was a bit terrible, because the third day we arrived at Holland, my friend lost his wallet We need to be extremely calculating on expenditure since we still got a lot of places to visit Both my friend and I learned a lesson from this journey www.facebook.com/TheStarTutoringCompany Tel: +61 478 764 364 Describe a way you keep fit or healthy You should say what this is How often you this who you often this with and explain why you think this is good ut or in g/ Sample answer: he St ar T I’m going to describe a way that I to keep fit, currently, which is swimming I used to swim a lot when I was younger, but I’ve recently taken it up again, and I go a couple of times a week now //w w w fa ce bo ok co m /T I go swimming in a gym that I joined, which has a nice swimming pool I tried going to my local public pool, but it was too busy, and you couldn’t swim up and down there So, I found a gym that has a pool, and it’s usually quite empty, and I can have a lane to myself and swim up and down ht s: As I said, I this hobby or activity alone I don’t go there with anyone; it’s a solitary sport really and I’m doing it for my health reasons Obviously, of course, there are other people in the pool when I’m there; sometimes you have to share a lane with another person or a couple of people But I’m in there, focused, on my own, concentrating on my swimming stroke and technique and trying to improve my endurance and stamina as well And the reason I think this is a healthy sport well, I think it’s widely accepted that swimming is healthy It’s a good all-over body workout; it’s great cardiovascular exercise; it’s a low-impact sport So you’re not expected to get any injuries as you might if you were running, where there’s impact on the joints with swimming you don’t have that So I think it’s really good for the body, but it’s also good for the mind When I get into the swimming pool, as soon as I hit the water it clears my mind, I’m focused only on one thing, which is my stroke, my technique, the breathing-it makes you think about your breathing as well, which is good And I www.facebook.com/TheStarTutoringCompany Tel: +61 478 764 364 ht s: //w w w fa ce bo ok co m /T he St ar T ut or in g/ believe that it rejuvenates and reinvigorates you to be in the water It’s a relaxing experience www.facebook.com/TheStarTutoringCompany Tel: +61 478 764 364 Part 1: Walking Do you like to walk? Do you like to walk on your own or with others? Would you say that your city is a good place for walking? Yes, I I'm not one for going on long walks in the countryside, but I don't mind walking when I'm in a town or city, for example when I'm sightseeing in a new place ut or in g/ For me, I prefer walking alone Sometimes I walk around the campus or walking along the beach I think walking alone helps me relax my mind, and I also practice meditation through walking co m /T he St ar T No, I guess it's hard to find some good places for walking in this city Because as you can see, due to the environmental pollution, the air quality is so bad, and it's unfit to any outdoor exercise Moreover, there is too much noise on the street, so your mind will be distracted by loud noise through walking //w w w fa ce bo ok Describe a person you admire You should say: 1.who the person is 2.what he or she is like ht s: 3.why you admire him or her I'm going to talk about my father because he has been a major influence in my life My dad was always a good role model for me as I was growing up He's hardworking, patient and understanding; he's also got a good sense of humor and seems to get on well with everybody Hopefully, I've inherited some of these traits I admire my father because I think he brought me and my brothers/sisters up well; he was quite strict but always fair, and he has always been someone I can turn to for advice I think my father set a good example by working hard and having a positive outlook on life I remember that he used to leave for work early and come home quite late, but he always made time for me and my brothers/sisters www.facebook.com/TheStarTutoringCompany Tel: +61 478 764 364 Describe a family member that you are mostly close to You should say: Who the family member is How you know about this person What kind of person he/she is And explain why are close to him/her ut or in g/ I have got six family members, and all of them are very dear and close to me If I need to pick one family member among them to talk about, that would be my father //w w w fa ce bo ok co m /T he St ar T My father’s name is XXX, and he is around 50 years old He is the kind of person I would want my offspring to be He did his graduation in a time when formal education was not people’s first choice They would rather start earning from work rather than going to school My father fought to ensure his education with the people who thought working or doing some business has more value than education But my dad believed that education is the most important part of a man’s life He heartily held the idea that education shapes a man’s life and is the kind of power and asset that would always accompany him ht s: I have lots of memories of my father, and I see him every day That’s why I’m close to him There exists a strong bonding between us that only two of us feel I still remember those days of my childhood when I used to wait in the evening for my father to return from office He would then play with me and help on completing my lessons I vividly remember him sometimes taking me to the market and buy me gifts When I was an infant, he moved to the city from the village to ensure me better schooling and environment That was a decision that has changed my life path He helped me finishing my home works and lessons, always allured me of gifts if I could complete my study Besides my education, he taught me lots of moral values and important things of life He used to work in a Government organization and for his hard-working and kindness; he is revered by all of our relatives, his friends and neighbors He believes in humanity, good behavior, our creator, and leads a life that can be exemplary He still does most of his works and helps my mom on her house hold works After retirement, he has picked two new habits: gardening and teaching neighbors’ kids He is a quiet and intelligent man who has benevolent heart and that www.facebook.com/TheStarTutoringCompany Tel: +61 478 764 364 what make him so admirable to me He is still the pillar of our family, and all of our family members love and respect him very much Part 1: Computer Do you use computers very much? Yes, I almost use my computer every day since I need it for study, onlinechatting, and for reading ut or in g/ Have computers changed your life anyway? he St ar T I think computers have significantly changed my life since it allows me to take online-courses and online-shopping also brings us much convenience /T Do you think computers are useful in everyday life? //w w w fa ce bo ok co m Sure Computers bring us a lot of benefits In contemporary society, people depend largely on computers to work and study Computers are so useful that people almost can’t live without them Do you think there are any disadvantages to using computers? ht s: Yes Some children may get harmful information online, and many people have become addicted to computer games The computer radiation also has a detrimental effect on people’s health Computers are now used a lot in education What you think of this? Undoubtedly, computers can become wonderful study tools for children if used properly By using computers, children may learn faster, become more creative and absorb a variety of knowledge www.facebook.com/TheStarTutoringCompany Tel: +61 478 764 364 Describe a leader who you admire You should say: Who the person is What this person did (has done) that you admire How you know this person or know about this person And explain how this leader’s qualities impressed you Part ut or in g/ In your culture, what kind of people can be a leader? Has there been a change in the characteristics that leaders should have? he St ar T Many women are earning more money now, does it mean that they can be leaders now? //w w w fa ce bo ok co m /T The person whom I admired the first time is my mother But, if we talk about the famous leader, I can say that he is Mahatma Gandhi He was from India He is known as the “Father of nation” in India as he played a very important role in gaining the freedom of India ht s: Mahatma Gandhi gave the Indian People not only freedom but also the new thoughts on non-violence and sustainable living There are some qualities about him like trust, non-violence, legacy, etc These qualities are the ones that inspired me He said that “If my faith burns bright as I hope it will even if I start alone, I shall be alive in the grave and what is more speaking of it.” Mahatma Gandhi was born on October 2, 1869, in the small town named Porbander Gandhi was a lawyer, and he became the leader of the Indian National Congress The main things that admire me about him are that he was a great follower of non-violence The other thing, which inspired me, is his punctuality He was very prompt in his life as he believes that punctuality is very important in the life I think we all should be punctual in the life 10 www.facebook.com/TheStarTutoringCompany Tel: +61 478 764 364 Describe a dinner that you had with your friends You should say: When and where you had the dinner Who you ate the dinner with What you ate And explain how you felt with this dinner co m /T he St ar T ut or in g/ Ok then, well I’m actually quite lucky in the fact that I’ve been invited to quite a number of special meals, and the one I’ve decided to talk to you about was a farewell dinner for a good friend of mine, because he was about to go off to Canada for a few years to start university there, so he invited a few of his close friends for a farewell dinner before heading off ht s: //w w w fa ce bo ok And one of the reasons I’ve chosen to talk about this meal instead of some of the others I’ve been to is simply that it’s still quite fresh in my memory You know, it was only about a couple of weeks ago when it happened And as for where we had the meal, well I can’t remember the exact name of the place, but it was quite a posh restaurant somewhere in the center of the city, and judging from how beautiful it looked when I walked in, it seemed to be a pretty expensive place to dine So I was relieved that it wouldn’t be me footing the bill! And we also had our separate room, which was nice, and probably just as well, seeing as we made quite a bit of noise during the meal, what with all the laughing and stuff going on Anyway regarding what we ate, well I couldn’t tell you every single dish that we had because there was just so much, you know, the whole table was covered with food I mean, there was a crab, chicken, duck, what else, um……oh yeah, shrimps, and, uh… oh and a whole load of different vegetables So by the end of it, I was stuffed You know, we all ate masses, because the food was so good, and it would have been a bit of a pity to see it go to waste! 11 www.facebook.com/TheStarTutoringCompany Tel: +61 478 764 364 But anyway, finally then, concerning how I felt about the meal, well to put it simply, I enjoyed it Because as well as the food, which was fantastic, I enjoyed everyone’s company You know, it was great being together with so many good friends, many of which I hadn’t seen in quite a while So yeah, all in all, it was a special evening, and I’m extremely grateful to have been invited, and also very grateful to my friend for his generosity, as the bill must have come to quite a lot, I’m sure! ut or in g/ Part 1: Mobile phone How often you use your mobile phone? co m /T he St ar T Well, obviously I use my mobile phone on a daily basis I always use it to get in touch with my family and friends Besides, I play games on my mobile phone when I have nothing to at home in the day time //w w w fa ce bo ok Can you describe your mobile phone? ht s: Currently, I’m using iPhone 6s Though it was quite expensive, it came with lots of exciting features and apps The screen response is perfect, and the thumb print works 100% of the time and is convenient to get into the phone Besides, the camera is awesome too and does not have the delay so I can always capture the stunning moment What was your first mobile phone? My first mobile phone was the Nokia bar phone in 2004 It was quite expensive then because I was a university student and didn’t have much money I got a part-time job to earn the money and bought it in a shopping mall Fortunately, the mobile phone turned out to be well worth what I had done then Would you buy a new one in the future? Yes, my iPhone 5s is relatively outdated, so I just want to update to the latest iPhone 6s in the near future It has a larger screen so I believe it would be much more comfortable to read the news or type text messages to my friends on it 12 www.facebook.com/TheStarTutoringCompany Tel: +61 478 764 364 How has your mobile phone changed your life? Oh, the mobile phone has changed my life dramatically Probably the most interesting change is that the mobile phone has freed me from the constraints of space For example, it is no longer necessary to meet my friends to apologize if I’m late to a meeting I just make a telephone call I think my life is fully mobile ut or in g/ Describe a product you bought which made you very happy You should say: ar T What it is, he St When you bought it, //w w w fa ce bo ok co m And explain why it made you happy /T Why you bought it, Sample Answer ht s: Ok then, well firstly I’d just like to mention that I’m quite lucky because my parents have always bought stuff for me, so I seldom buy something by myself But one occasion that I did save up to buy something myself was when I got my iPad, which really made me happy and that’s what I’d like to talk about And um, I think it took me about four or five months to save up for it, and I did it by cutting back on other things, you know, like eating out and buying clothes At that time, I study in a college, I mean, I don’t have a job, unfortunately, so the only money I receive is my living allowance which my parents give me every month, and that’s what I had to use to pay for it Anyway, regarding why I wanted an iPad, well I suppose the main reason was that I’m a big Apple fan You know, I already had an iPhone and laptop, so the only thing I was missing was an iPad I also watched Steve Jobs’ presentation of the iPad when it was launched, and it looked pretty cool So I just thought it would be great to have one! 13 www.facebook.com/TheStarTutoringCompany Tel: +61 478 764 364 And as for how I felt after buying it, well, first of all, I was really excited and happy, you know, because I couldn’t wait to start using it And it also felt great because I’d saved up for it myself instead of simply asking my parents to buy it for me So for that reason, it just felt a bit more special to me, if you know what I mean! Describe a piece of clothing that is given by someone You should say: Who gave it to you ut or in g/ What it looks like What you felt about it he St ar T And explain why you received such a piece of clothing /T Sample Answer //w w w fa ce bo ok co m Speaking of the piece of clothing that another person gave to me, I would like to talk about one of my business suits It, as a birthday gift, was bought by my father when I was 21 years old The business suit was produced by the brand name HUGO BOSS The color of the business suit is dark blue with three buttons in the middle, and two big pockets on the down left and down right sides of the suit I really like that suit ht s: Speaking of the piece of clothing that another person gave to me, I would like to talk about one of my business suits It, as a birthday gift, was bought by my father when I was 21 years old The business suit was produced by the brand name HUGO BOSS The color of the business suit is dark blue with three buttons in the middle, and two big pockets on the down left and down right sides of the suit I like that suit Whenever I have a presentation or interview, I will choose that suit because it makes me feel comfortable and confident Also, this is a gift bought by my father, which makes me feel warm and less nervous It is worth mentioning that every time I wear that business suit, I have a strong feeling that I am no longer a child or even a student I should hold responsibility for my career and become a mature man I should not always rely on my parents’ support I need to be independent and grow up The first impression you make on a potential employer is the most important one The first judgment an interviewer makes is going to be based on how you look and what 14 www.facebook.com/TheStarTutoringCompany Tel: +61 478 764 364 you are wearing That’s why it’s always important to dress professionally for a job interview, even if the work environment is casual What’s the appropriate dress code for an interview? You’ll want that first impression to be not just a good one, but, a great one The candidate dressed in a suit and tie is going to make a much better impression than the candidate dressed in scruffy jeans and a t-shirt Part 1: Weekend 1.What you usually on weekends? ar T ut or in g/ I usually go shopping with my parents and rent a family movie on Saturday, and I will hang out with my friends Girls will drink something together and gossip a bit he St 2.What are you going to (planning to) next weekend? //w w w fa ce bo ok co m /T Next weekend, I will hang out with my friends, and find some best-kept secret restaurants to enjoy a meal together After that, we will go to a jazz club or live house, as I’m a die-hard jazz fan 3.What you in your spare time? ht s: Well, I have lots of hobbies I like to in my spare time I am very interested in studying English and I’m also quite into movies - sometimes I combine these two interests by watching British or American movies What I particularly enjoy doing, though, is playing football- it’s so exciting! 4.When you spend time with your family We eat dinner together every night And during weekends, we sometimes go to a cinema or go to the grocery to some shopping together 5.What did you last week?
