Class description: 30 students (Ss -15 boys and 15 girls), Sang Son high school. 2. Time: 45m 3. Objectives: +skill: after the lesson, Ss will be able to -scan for specific ideas and guess the meaning of words in context. +language: Ss will be able to -make a sentence with topic celebration -use the information in context to discuss the topic 4. Assumed knowledge: - Ss have known some vocabulary items related to the topic. 5. Anticipated problem(s): Ss may have difficulty in calling name of the celebrations/festivals. 6. Teaching aids: -Textbook, picture, handout, blackboard, chalk. 7. Procedures: Time Contents Teacher’s activities Student’s activities Aims 7m 10m I. warm up: Brainstorming II. pre reading - divides Ss into groups or pairs from 3-4 people. - asks Ss to list some festivals in Vietnam and then write the festivals followed the drawing. - checks and corrects answer. 1. Valentine day - gives a question for Ss as what is the most important festival in Vietnam? - introduces new lesson. - asks Ss to look at the picture (p90) and describes it following in pairs. -runs through the questions -asks Ss to give their answer -corrects the answer. 1. What time of the year is it? 2. What are the people in the picture doing? 3. What else do you see in the picture? -work in groups or pairs and list some festivals in Vietnam. - write name of the festivals in drawing. - listen and answer the question: -Tet, lunar new year. -look at the picture and describe. -work in pairs -listen question and give their answer 1. Tet (lunar new year). 2. They are receiving and giving lucky money. 3. Fruits, Chung cake, tea cup, peach blossom, kumquat tree, five fruits tray. -to promote spirit of teamwork and speed of thinking. -to have a chance to present their ideas. -to identify objects through picture -to guess actions and procedure of characters in picture. -to promote ability of thinking and work in Festivals 5m III. while reading 1.
