CHUYÊN ĐỀ: MẠO TỪ (ARTICLES ) Phần lý thuyết: a) Cách dùng A/ AN * “A/ AN “ – gọi mạo từ không xác định, nghĩa không rõ người vật nào, nhắc tới lần EX- There was a big tree in the garden – dùng trước danh từ đếm số ít, với ý nghĩa (one) (không dùng a/an trước danh từ số nhiều danh từ không đếm được) – thường dùng trước nghề nghiệp EX: My uncle is a farmer, and my auntis a housewife * “ A” : đứng trước danh từ cụm danh số ít, đếm được, chưa xác định, bắt đầu nguyên âm đọc phụ âm “h” câm EX: - a house, a car, a man, a teacher,… - a university, a uniform , a one-eyed man,… * “ AN” : đứng trước danh từ cụm danh số ít, đếm được, chưa xác định, bắt đầu nguyên âm (u, e, o, a, i) “h” câm âm sau nguyên âm EX: - an apple, an actor, an old man, an easy job,an umbrella,… - an hour, an honest man,……… But, a hero, a horrible sight,… b) Cách dùng “THE” “The” – mạo từ xác định, nghĩa rõ người vật mà người nói người nghe biết “The” – dùng trước danh từ không đếm được, danh từ số số nhiều : the water, the pollution, the child,… EX: - Please! Turn down the television “The” – dùng với danh từ có ý nghĩa người vật (nên nhầm lẫn) EX: - the sun, the moon, the earth, the sky, the President,… ( Note: on earth on the earth.) “The” – theo sau tính từ từ quốc tịch để nhóm người EX - The poor, the old, the homeless,… - the Vietnamese, the Chinese, … “The” – dùng trước tên sông, biển, đại dương, kênh đào, dãy núi, quần đảo EX - Sông: The Mekong river, the Nile, the Amazon, the Mississippi,… - Biển, đại dương: the Pacific, the Atlantic, the Red sea, the Mediterranean,… - Kênh đào: the Suez Cannal, the Panama Cannal,… - Dãy núi: the Andes, the Alps,… - Quần đảo: the Canaries, the Bahamas, the Hawaiian Islands,… “The” – trước tên số quốc gia, thường tên quốc gia gồm tập hợp nhiều từ, có ý nghĩa số nhiều EX: - The Unite Kingdom, the Unite states, the Czech Republic,… “The” dùng câu so sánh từ thứ tự, EX : - He is the best student in my class - The man is the last person to be interviewed “The” dùng để nói chơi loại nhạc cụ, xem phim, tới rạp chiếu phim EX: - He likes playing the guitar - They go to the cinema every Sarturday evening Ngô Văn Thảo Page “The” dùng trước danh từ, với điều kiện danh từ xác định cụm từ mệnh đề quan hệ EX: - The girl in uniform (Cô gái mặc đồng phục) - The mechanic that I met (Người thợ máy mà gặp) - The place where I waited for him (Nơi mà đợi anh ta) 10 “The” dùng trước danh từ vật riêng biệt EX: - My father is working in the garden (Cha làm việc vườn) [Vườn nhà tôi] - Please pass the dictionary (Làm ơn đa tự điển) [Tự điển bàn] 11.” The” + Danh từ số tượng trưng cho nhóm thú vật đồ vật EX: - The whale is in danger of becoming extinct (Cá voi nguy tuyệt chủng) - The fast food has made life easier for housewives.(Thức ăn nhanh làm cho bà nội trợ có sống dễ dàng hơn) 12.” The “ đứng Trước tên gọi gồm Danh từ + of + danh từ Ví dụ: - The Gulf of Mexico (Vịnh Mêhicô) - The United States of America (Hiệp chủng quốc Hoa Kỳ) Nhưng người ta lại nói: - South Africa (Nam Phi), North America (Bắc Mỹ), West Germany (Tây Đức),mặc dù The north of Spain (Bắc Tây Ban Nha), The Middle East (Trung Đông); The West (Tây Phương) 13 “The” + họ (ở số nhiều)nghĩa Gia đình Ví dụ:The Smiths = Gia đình Smith (vợ chồng Smith con) * Chú ý: +.Không dùng “the” trước tên quốc gia, thành phố, châu lục, núi, đảo EX - Quốc gia: Vietnam, Engliand,… - Thành phố: London, Paris,Hanoi,… - Châu lục: Asia, Europe,… - Ngọn núi: Mount Everest, Mount Fuji,… - Một đảo: Phu quoc Island,… + Trong câu, thường dùng “a/an” đề cập người vật lần đầu, muốn đề cập đến người vật lần ta dùng “the” EX - I saw a man walking with a dog in the park this morning - The man was blind and the dog was leading him C Trường hợp không dùng mạo từ: ( No article/ / _) - Không dùng với danh từ số nhiều không đếm nói chung chung vật, khái niệm trừu tượng: EX : I will give you infomation about this course ( Tôi đưa cho anh thông tin khóa học này) - Không dùng danh từ bữa ăn, môn thể thao, môn học, ngôn ngữ, :have lunch/ dinner/ breakfast,play football/ tennis,… EX: I have dinner at 6.00 pm -home, school, university, hospital, prision đến mục đích EX: stay at home, go to school, by bus, on foot,… Ngô Văn Thảo Page Phần tập: Bài tập 1: Điền vào chổ trống với mạo từ (a/ an / the) bỏ trống How far is it from here to airport? “What’s _ capital of Spain?” – “It’s Madrid” My father works in office in _ city center _ earth is _ planet of _ solar system She was born in a village in _ north of England _ village where she was born has beautiful river Who is _ best singer in United Kingdom?
