TopSolid Installation Instructions p.1 CADNouveau www.CADNouveau.com 205.871.6618 schiller@CADNouveau.com If your DVD player started to AUTOPLAY the installation DVD, you will get a popup screen that looks like this From here, you can select your language and start the installation process Move your mouse over TopSolid 2008 on the left window, and click the left button It will take a few seconds for the DVD drive to spool up and give you the next screen… (FROM HERE, JUMP TO PAGE IF YOUR SYSTEM AUTOPLAYED THE DVD AND YOU GOT THIS SCREEN If you did NOT get this screen, go to the next page and we'll use Windows Explorer to get to the startup screen that will start the installation) CN Installing TopSolid Page TopSolid Installation Instructions p.2 CADNouveau www.CADNouveau.com 205.871.6618 schiller@CADNouveau.com If the installation DVD does not automatically install, use Windows to Explore the DVD - from here, you will want to open up either the SETUP or SETUP_x64 folder - depending on if you are running a standard (32bit) or a 64 bit machine and operating system Double click on the appropriate folder In my case, I am going to double click on SETUP, then start the installation by clicking on the SETUP program CN Installing TopSolid Page TopSolid Installation Instructions p.3 CADNouveau www.CADNouveau.com 205.871.6618 schiller@CADNouveau.com This will start the installation of TopSolid At this point, you will be asked to select which LANGUAGE you want to install… I selected ENGLISH… Next, a popup telling you that it is running the installation program select NEXT Next, you will get the licensing agreement for the software - select NEXT Now, you will come to what kind of license did you purchase Typically, you would select SINGLE LICENSE and your system will be activated either by a USB key (dongle) or a software code generated for your specific computer A FLOATING LICENSE is for a network key that would allow (for example) users from anywhere on the network at any one time… these "seats" could be on any computer on the network, but only at one time could use the program Next, there are additional software components that need to be installed on your system Select NEXT You MAY already have some of these or have newer versions - no problem - the installation will detect this and warn you - just accept the default answers and the installation will continue CN Installing TopSolid Page TopSolid Installation Instructions p.4 CADNouveau www.CADNouveau.com 205.871.6618 schiller@CADNouveau.com You will have to agree to the installation and terms of use for the SENTINAL software drivers, Microsoft NET installation and Microsoft Visual C+++ components… just accept and select NEXT In my case I got this error message - this is because I had a newer version of NET already installed No problem, I got a message saying THIS installation failed (and it did not overwrite the updated version of NET) and the TopSolid installation continued It installed the Visual C+++ components, and then was ready to start the basic TopSolid files This will pop up, along with several other boxes asking you to confirm the default installation folders for the program (c:\Missler\v6.9) Just accept the default answer and click NEXT CN Installing TopSolid Page TopSolid Installation Instructions p.5 CADNouveau www.CADNouveau.com 205.871.6618 schiller@CADNouveau.com When you get this screen, you have options I typically select CUSTOM SETUP… Which will allow me to select specific modules and options to install… In my case I installed TopSolidDESIGN, TopSolidFOLD (an option that allows you to flatten custom curved pieces for example a curved back of a reception desk - is to be cut out of panel stock - so we take the curve and flatten it for sending to a nested based router CN Installing TopSolid Page TopSolid Installation Instructions p.6 CADNouveau www.CADNouveau.com 205.871.6618 schiller@CADNouveau.com Other options may include different INTERFACES which are optional modules for importing and converting other types of files to TopSolid files… For example, by default, TopSolidWOOD reads SolidWorks PART files, but needs the optional interface to read SolidWorks ASSEMBLY files Select the options you have purchased - or all of them - it won't matter because your dongle or software code will control which ones will work BE SURE TO SELECT TOPSOLID WOOD just above the CAM section Also be sure to select TOPSOLID WOODCAM (the 3rd item under CAM if you have purchased or are interested in outputing code to CNC machines) I typically will also install the VIEWER AND FINDER modules Click NEXT CN Installing TopSolid Page TopSolid Installation Instructions p.7 CADNouveau www.CADNouveau.com 205.871.6618 schiller@CADNouveau.com At this point, the program will confirm where it is going to place the CONFIGURATION FILES, GROUP files, and PROJECTS Just accept the default answers by clicking NEXT When you are presented with a screen asking about installing PROTECTION CODES now - select NO… we'll get to that after the installation Next will be a popup asking about setting up the graphics card and setting… I answer YES to the automatic setup CN Installing TopSolid Page TopSolid Installation Instructions p.8 CADNouveau It will detect the card, and you can choose your installation performance settings Next you will get a summary screen telling you what is about to be installed just select NEXT CN Installing TopSolid Page www.CADNouveau.com 205.871.6618 schiller@CADNouveau.com TopSolid Installation Instructions p.9 CADNouveau www.CADNouveau.com 205.871.6618 schiller@CADNouveau.com At this point, the main installation will start Sit back, depending on your computer speed, it may take several minutes as it installs the different selected modules It will finish and start the VIEWER and FINDER installations - so you will have to repick your preferred languange for each of these (free) utility modules When they finish installing, select the FINISH icon You will be asked if you want to view the TopSolid2008 News document (what's new…)… if you select it, you will get a new PDF document popup Select FINISH At this point, we've finished the basic installation If you ever need to add other modules at a later date, this same process So, let's go back to the DVD drive, to the same SETUP or SETUP_x64 folder you started in and re-select SETUP CN Installing TopSolid Page TopSolid Installation Instructions p.10 CADNouveau www.CADNouveau.com 205.871.6618 schiller@CADNouveau.com This will restart the installation disk and we want to select RUN MAINTENANCE Then NEXT This will allow us to install any other options at a later time CN Installing TopSolid Page 10 TopSolid Installation Instructions p.11 CADNouveau www.CADNouveau.com 205.871.6618 schiller@CADNouveau.com In this case, we are going to EXPLORE the DVD and get to the WOOD LIBRARIES folder and install the WOOD LIBRARIES from there… slide down to the SETUP file and double click on it This will start the installation of the Wood Libraries Confirm the language and click NEXT This will take a few minutes to load Click finish when done… CN Installing TopSolid Page 11 TopSolid Installation Instructions p.12 CADNouveau www.CADNouveau.com 205.871.6618 schiller@CADNouveau.com If you browse to the DOCUMENTATION folder you will see some quick reference PDF files, some manuals in various languages - YOU WILL NEED TO INSTALL UPDATES/PATCHES This is CRITICAL The installation DVD is from the early part of the release of the product and we've made several updates that are available on the web To download from the web, go to www.topsolid.com then the downloads tab, then PATCHES… Before you this, check which versions you have of TopSolid installed on your computer so you can see if there is an update available CN Installing TopSolid Page 12 TopSolid Installation Instructions p.13 CADNouveau www.CADNouveau.com 205.871.6618 schiller@CADNouveau.com To this, start TopSolid, then go to HELP > About TopSolidDESIGN and you will see something similar to this In this case, my version of TopSolidDESIGN is 6.9.200 - which is very old I NEED TO UPDATE IT So, back on the TopSolid website, I scroll down to TopSolid, then Version 2008, then see that there is a cumulative patch to download… Click GO!!! Save the patch to a new folder that you create for TopSolid downloads… (Do this so all of your downloads are in the same directory it makes it very easy to see if you've already downloaded one of the patches) In this case, the next window will pop up telling us what the newest patch is and what version it will bring the program up to version-wise… CN Installing TopSolid Page 13 TopSolid Installation Instructions p.14 CADNouveau www.CADNouveau.com 205.871.6618 schiller@CADNouveau.com Here is what we see after we hit the GO! Button… In this example, the update will apply a patch to bring version 6.9.200 up to 6.9.212… click the DOWN ARROW ICON to download it There are instructions on how to download the version, how to install it etc By clicking the DOWNLOAD icon, it will connect you to our FTP site and start the download… I SAVE TO A DISK first (to a directory JUST FOR TOPSOLID DOWNLOADS - (makes it easy to find later) This may eliminate me having to download the same file for all seats of TopSolid - just download it once, save it to a drive connected to the network and then access it as needed) CN Installing TopSolid Page 14 TopSolid Installation Instructions p.15 CADNouveau www.CADNouveau.com 205.871.6618 schiller@CADNouveau.com When I select SAVE TO A FILE, I put it under c:\my documents\downloads\topsolid\patches (or similar)… Most of these cumulative patches are over 100MB, that's why it makes sense to save it to a drive on the network Once the file is downloaded, apply the patch by doubleclicking on it… BE SURE THAT TOPSOLID IS CLOSED (Remember, that until you use a USB dongle or software code, you will not be able to save any jobs) If you not have an unzipping program on your system, we have provided one in the UTILITIES directory of the DVD This is a large file and takes a few minutes to install CN Installing TopSolid Page 15 TopSolid Installation Instructions p.16 CADNouveau www.CADNouveau.com 205.871.6618 schiller@CADNouveau.com Once it is finished extracting, the TopSolid installation update will take over Click NEXT when prompted, and the update will begin If you get any popup messages about files needing to be overwritten, just click YES and let the system what it thinks is correct (If you check the box next to DO NOT SHOW THIS MESSAGE AGAIN (or similar) the program will not ask you for confirmation for each file) OK, now we've updated TopSolidDESIGN, but we want to check if there are any TopSolidWOOD and TopSolidWOODCAM updates and save and apply them as well If you have any interpreters (for reading other file types, you may want to install them also) So, back to the website and scroll down to look at potential updates for TopSolidWOODCAM etc… select them, save, install etc After you have applied all the updates/patches, if you NOT have a USB key (dongle) you will need to send me an email to get a software code to enable you to save jobs etc until we finish the paperwork To this, we'll jump to the next page CN Installing TopSolid Page 16 TopSolid Installation Instructions p.17 CADNouveau www.CADNouveau.com 205.871.6618 schiller@CADNouveau.com To get a software code to run TopSolid and save jobs, you will need to email me your MACHINE ID code To find this, start TopSolid, then go to HELP > CODES and the system will generate a popup window that has a unique number based on THIS PARTICULAR computer This Machine ID will not work on another computer, so if you have seats that need temporary codes, I will need different MACHINE ID codes it's best to give each MACHINE ID a name or workstation number that is associate with it, but it won't matter if you don't It is best to create a screenshot of the popup window so we don't produce codes that don't work To this, once the popup window is produced that has your machine ID, click on the popup window to make that the ACTIVE WINDOW (Just click on it) (The goal here is to get a screen capture of JUST THIS SMALL WINDOW, not your entire screen - then you will paste this into an email, along with a capture of all the other MACHINE IDs… The reason we want just the small popup window is because of the file size that is generated - if you a full screen capture it may be 5mb per screen… by just doing the small popup window it's very small and the emails will fly through rather than get stopped by email setups that don't allow huge files to be emailed…) To capture JUST THE POPUP window, click in the window, then hit ALT-PRINTSCREEN at the same time That will copy the popup window to the clipboard, start an email and type CTRL-V (or EDIT>PASTE) to paste the window and it should look like this Do this screen capture for each of your systems and send me an email (can be emails from each user etc It does not matter) Email this to me at schiller@cadnouveau.com and I will produce a code and get it back to you ASAP Codes for nesting are not able to be produced by me, and I'll have to send them to the office in France to get codes, so nesting will take some time In the mean time, I'll get codes to you so you can save jobs, just not nest CN Installing TopSolid Page 17 TopSolid Installation Instructions p.18 CADNouveau www.CADNouveau.com 205.871.6618 schiller@CADNouveau.com Once I get your MACHINE ID information, I can create temporary codes so you can save jobs on your system I will email you back a file that needs to be copied to your c:\Missler\Config folder This file needs to be place on each machine in order to let you save jobs Open the email, there will be a file attached called TOP.COD Right click on this file and you will be asked where you want to save it You need to save it to c:\Missler\Config folder The system will ask you to confirm that you are going to copy this TOP.COD file and replace another one that already exists in that directory Confirm that is what you want to do, and the operation is complete You should now be able to start TopSolid without the warning message that you are working in demonstration mode Two weeks before the codes expire, they will start popping up messages warning you about the expiration date when you start TopSolid If you not get with me early, you may not be able to output code to the machines if you not have updated codes CN Installing TopSolid Page 18 [...]... web, go to www .topsolid. com then the downloads tab, then PATCHES… Before you do this, check which versions you have of TopSolid installed on your computer so you can see if there is an update available CN Installing TopSolid Page 12 TopSolid Installation Instructions p.13 CADNouveau www.CADNouveau.com 205.871.6618 schiller@CADNouveau.com To do this, start TopSolid, then go to HELP > About TopSolidDESIGN... start the download… I SAVE TO A DISK first (to a directory JUST FOR TOPSOLID DOWNLOADS -
