- - 8 • - 0 - 6 - SG-1 Service Gateway SG-1 Internet Services Marketing Using SG-1, customers or groups of customers can be selectively offered customized content and services depending upon their location, demographics, personal interests, age groups, or other criteria User profiles can be created by the users themselves, or built based upon URL visits, Internet queries, or existing profile information By increasing the focus for specific services and content on an identified target market, the effectiveness of these web-based marketing campaigns is increased dramatically Once a selection is made by a user, SG-1 enables access to content servers, or new services such as "virus protection" through its policy enforcement and active redirection capabilities In this example, Singl.eView is used for customer profile management, keeping track of the products and services offered, and the transactional billing capability Bandwidth-On-Demand Turbo Button SG-1 controls the available bandwidth for each subscriber connected to the network and allows them to dynamically change the bandwidth according to their demands As an example, service providers may use SG-1 to stimulate subscribers to upgrade their connection from dial-up to xDSL by offering them a trial period, which can be allocated on a real-time basis Broadband users can then dynamically upgrade their broadband connection to a higher speed by using a simple "turbo" button to increase bandwidth for an additional fee Walled Gardens SG-1 enables service providers to create closed environments of web sites for different user groups such as gaming, educational, children, or adult-only areas Users may then dynamically choose from a menu of service packages offered depending upon their permissions (i.e children may be restricted from certain sites selected by their parents using a simple process) This capability enlarges the variety of service packages that service providers can offer to different user groups including schools, families, enterprises, universities, etc., and allows a service provider to charge customers for access on a "per use" basis Since these policies are enforced at the network level, they can be updated and changed without loading, maintaining, or updating CPE software All customer profile information is managed using the Singl.eView Commerce Engine Customized Guided Entry SG-1 may be used to guide subscribers to predetermined web pages based upon specified criteria set by the service provider This capability is typically used to redirect subscribers to a preferred portal when connecting the net, thus turning the ISP’s portal into the subscriber’s homepage SG-1 accomplishes this without keeping subscribers’ service information on their desktop and is enforced at the network level, making the process 100% cookie-free – portable and transparent to subscribers 2/03 • 1239876 SG-1 Service Gateway Service Creation Applications Designed to Generate Revenue w w w a d c c o m • + - - - 8 • - 0 - 6 - SG-1 Service Gateway Service Creation Applications Designed to Reduce Operational Costs Automated and Selective Announcements SG-1 allows a service provider to send maintenance, public service, or informational announcements to select users or types of users based upon their location, service type, user group, or other criteria These web-based announcements may also have automated or selective links to additional information, and may be displayed at any specified time (including dynamically at the request of a technician during problem resolution) Automated Password Verification Using SG-1, automated password verification can be implemented in areas currently requiring manual service rep interaction As an example, dial-up ISP users can be redirected to a specific password verification web page before they are authenticated thus reducing manual service calls Bandwidth or Usage Based Enforcement SG-1 allows a service provider to limit users to certain bandwidth or timed usage restrictions depending upon preset or network congestion based criteria This capability allows a service provider to take measured and appropriate steps to control abusive users and bandwidth hogs Dial-Up Notification and Redirection SG-1 allows users to be notified if they are not calling the most efficient dial-up POP available, thus making them aware of impending long distance or 800 access charges This minimizes future customer complaints, manual service rep interaction, and eliminates possible rebates Service Initiation and CPE Application Simplification Using location-based guided entry and the ability to manage sessions on a network-wide basis, SG-1 minimizes the need for distributing CDs for initial service deployment or for maintaining software on individual CPE devices As a network centric device enabling web pages to be pushed, and sessions to be dynamically redirected on demand, the SG-1 can also provide selective connectivity to application or content servers minimizing software licenses and the number of hosts requiring software maintenance 2/03 • 1239876 SG-1 Service Gateway Self-Serve and Dynamic Service Provisioning SG-1 allows a service provider to offer an appropriate level of user control for different customers depending upon their services, location, sophistication, or other criteria Tiered services can be offered with web-based "dynamic upgrades" and "content on demand" capabilities In addition to increasing revenues, this strategy eliminates the need for manual service rep interaction, thus reducing operational costs w w w a d c c o m • + -
