1 The Necessary Materials: Sewing Machine Thread Pencil Scissors Iron Pins Fabric Fusible Fleece Lightweight to Medium Fusible Interfacing Black Tracing Paper Large Safety Pin ¾” Wide Elastic 3/8” Wide Elastic Handbag Measurements: 9” tall 15” wide across the middle 12” wide across the bottom Straps: any length that’s convenient for you Fabric Needed: Handbag: ½ yard Lining: ½ yard Casing and bow fabric: ½ yard Fusible Fleece: ½ yard Fusible Interfacing:1 yard All pattern pieces can be found at the end of the ebook. Seam Allowance: ¼” 2 Print out the pattern pieces and join them together. Place it onto your fabric. Cut out the front and back pieces. 3 Using the front and back as your pattern, cut out two fusible fleece pieces. 4 Iron the fusible fleece onto the back of the front and back pieces using a medium heat setting with steam. Press firmly until attached. In order to trace the dart onto the handbag, place the pattern onto the fusible fleece side of the front and back pieces with a piece of black tracing paper behind it as shown. 5 Press firmly with your pencil when tracing the dart lines onto the fusible fleece. Repeat for each corner of the front and back pieces. This is what your pencil markings should look like. 6 Sew all four darts. Cut out two strips of fabric measuring 21 ½” x 1 ¾” for the elastic casing. 7 Fold in the edges ¼” as shown and press. 8 Pin each strip onto the front and back pieces 2 ¼” from the top. 9 Sew the strips onto the front and back pieces along both sides. 10 Cut out two pieces of elastic measuring 11 ½” long x ¾” wide. Attach a large safety pin to the end and insert it into the strip. Gather the elastic and pull the safety pin so the elastic goes through the casing. 11 After the elastic is about halfway through, sew the end closed while catching the elastic end into the seam. Double stitch for strength. Pull the elastic the rest of the way through, take off the pin, and sew the end closed catching the elastic end into the seam. Pin the front and back pieces around the outside as shown. 12 Sew along the outside. Turn the bag rightside out. 13 Cut out two fabric and two interfacing pieces for the straps measuring 3” wide x your desired length. Iron the interfacing onto the back of each strap with medium heat. 14 Fold in the edges ¼” as shown and press. Fold each strap in half lengthwise and pin. 15 Sew the straps along both sides. Pin and sew the straps onto the handbag 5 ½” from the side seams. 16 The finished straps. 17 Using the pattern piece, cut out two lining pieces. 18 Using the lining pieces as your guide, cut out two fusible interfacing pieces. Iron the fusible interfacing onto the back of each lining piece using a medium heat setting with steam. Press firmly until attached. 19 Cut out two fabric and two fusible interfacing pieces for the pocket measuring 6” x 8”. Iron the fusible interfacing onto the back of each pocket piece. 20 With right sides together, pin and sew the pocket together around the outside leaving a 2 ½” opening as shown. Trim the corners. Turn the pocket rightside out and press seams flat. Sew along the side with the opening. 21 The pocket should be placed 4 ½” down from the top of the lining. Pin and sew the pocket onto one of the lining pieces leaving the top open. Cut out two strips of fabric measuring 21 ½” x 1 ½” for the elastic casing in the lining. Fold in the edges on both ¼” as shown and press. 22 Pin the elastic casing onto each lining piece 2 ¼” from the top. Sew the elastic casing onto each lining piece along both sides. 23 The lining after the casing is sewn on. Cut two pieces of elastic measuring 11 ½” long x 3/8” wide. Attach a large safety pin to the end and insert it into the casing. 24 Gather the elastic and pull the safety pin so the elastic goes through the casing. 25 After the elastic is about halfway through, sew the end closed while catching the elastic end into the seam. Double stitch for strength. Pull the elastic the rest of the way through, take off the pin, and sew the end closed catching the elastic end into the seam. The finished lining pieces. 26 Pin the lining pieces together around the outside as shown. Sew the lining pieces together around the outside leaving a 7” opening in the bottom. 27 Insert the handbag into the lining as shown, making sure to tuck in the straps as well. Pin the handbag and the lining together around the top. 28 Sew the handbag and lining together along the top. 29 Turn the bag rightside out through the 7” opening in the lining. Sew the opening in the lining closed with a zig zag stitch. Push the lining into the handbag. 30 Pin along the top of the handbag. Top stitch the top of the handbag for a finished look. 31 In order to make the bow, cut out a 28” x 4” strip and fold it in half lengthwise. Sew along the edges leaving an opening. Turn it right side out and sew the opening closed. Tie it into a bow and sew it onto the handbag with a needle and thread.
