You must choose the one which you think fits best Let children learn to judge their own work. A child learning to talk does not learn by being corrected all the time; if corrected too much, he will stop talking. He notices a thousand times a day the difference between the language he uses and the language those around him use. Bit by bit, he makes the necessary changes to make his language like other people’s. In the same way children learning to do all 1 the other things they learn to do without being taught-to talk, run, climb, whistle, ride a bicycle-compare their own performances with those of more skilled people, and slowly make the needed changes. But he school we never give a child a change to find out his mistakes for himself, let along correct them. We do it all for him. We act as if we thought that he would never notice a mistake unless it was pointed out to him, or correct it unless he was made to. Soon he became dependent on the teacher. Let him do it himself. Let him work out, with the help of other children if he wants it, what this word says, what the answer is to that problem, whether this is a good way of saying or doing this or not. If it is a matter of right answer, as it may be in mathematics or science, give him the answer book. Let him correct his own papers. Why should we teachers waste time on such routine work? Our job should be to help the child when he tells us that he can’t find the way to get the right answer. Let’s end all this nonsense of grades, exams, marks. Let us throw them all out, and let the children learn that all educated people must some day learn, how to measure their own understand, how to know what they know or do not know. Let them get on with this job in the same way that seems most sensible to them, with our help as school teachers if they ask for it. The idea that there is body of knowledge to be learnt at school and used for the rest of one’s life is nonsense in a world as complicated and rapidly changing as ours. Anxious parents and teachers say ‘But suppose they fail to learn something essential, they will go out into the world and learn it 21. What does the author think is the best way for children to learn things? A. by copying what other people do B. by making mistakes and having them corrected C. by listening to explanations from killed people D. by asking great many questions 22. What does the author think teachers do which they should not do? A. They give children correct answer B. They point out children’s mistakes to them C. They allow children to mark their own them C. They encourage children to copy from one another 23. The passage suggests that learning to speak and learning to ride a bicycle are A. not really important skill B. more important than other skills C. basically different from learning adult skills D. basically the same as learning other skills 24. Exams, grades and makes should be abolished because children’s progress should only be estimated by… A. educated persons B. the children themselves C. teachers D. parents 25. The author fears that children will grow up into adults who are… A. too independent B. too critical of themselves C. unable to think for themselves D. unable to use basic skill PAPER TWO: USE OF ENGLISH SECTION A: PASSAGE FOR GAP-FILL In this section you must find a word to complete the numbered blanks in the passage below. Thời gian 30 phút PASSAGE 1 FOR THE FIRST PART You like traveling, don’t you? Even though plane, train, car or boat can be tiring. It’s very exciting to visit different places. However 1 sometimes wonder why some people to travel. For example, take 3 friends of mine. One travels to a different country every time she has a holiday, but she has never enjoyed herself: she finds the place too hot, too cold, too quiet, too noisy or too expensive. She is too fussy. My 2 nd friend says that she really enjoys traveling but she never goes outside her hotel and spends all of her holiday resting in her room. What a waste of a holiday! My 3 rd friend gets upset when he can’t watch his favorite TV. Programmes or can’t find a good disco in the place he’s gone to for his holiday Travelers like these should really stay at home because they do not prepare themselves for travel. They love the excitement of planning a holiday to a different places before they go, and of talking about it when they come back, but they don’t spend any time finding out about the food, shops, transport, entertainment etc. In the place. So, when they arrive there, they are so shocked by the differences from home that all they can do is criticize the place and become very unhappy. Their unhappiness grows and grows the longer they there. There are many reasons for traveling. Dome people travel to escape their boring lives at home; other travel to explore new places; while other people travel so they can study different parts of the world. However, if you travelers like 3 friends why they travel, they probably won’t be able to give you an answer. They don’t really have an answer. They really should just stay at home. PASSAGE 2 FOR THE SECOND PART The most interesting part of the little town was the market square surrounded by cafes, restaurants and small shops full of all kinds of cheap goods likely to attract tourists. All this time of the year it was not very crowded. It was a lovely day with only a few little white clouds in the sky. It was not too hot, as it sometimes was during the summer, but pleasantly warm. Edward and Ann sat down at a table outside of the cafes. After they had been sitting there enjoying the sunshine for a new minutes, a young waiter, not much more than a boy, came to take their order. He spoke no English, but after a lot of laughter and pointing at the menu, they thought they had managed make him understand that all day wanted was ice-cream. There were several flavor lemon, chocolate, coffee, orange and vanilla and they both chose coffee. “I love coffee ice-cream,” said Ann. After a little the waiter returned. He was carrying a big tray. He set down very carefully on the table in front of Edward and Ann. There were two cups of coffee and two plain ice-cream on the tray. “We didn’t order coffee”, said Edward angrily, “We ordered coffee ice-cream. He ought to be able to understand simple English”. The waiter smile and looked pleased. “No” said Ann laughing, “It’s his country. We ought to be able to speak his language”. 7 Đáp án Gợi ý Bài Ôn tập Trình độ B - Số 9: PAPER ONE: READING COMPREHENSION (Total marks for paper one: 30) SECTION A: One mark for each correct answer: Total: 20 1.
