UNIT 7 : SAVING ENERGY Division of lessons 1. Getting started __ Listen and read ` 2. Speak & Listen 3. Read 4. Write 5 . Language focus Date : Jan 18 th , 2011 UNIT 7 : SAVING ENERGY Period : 42 LESSON 1 : GETTING STARTED _ LISTEN AND READ I. Aim : By the end of the lesson , students will be able to : - use the words and phrases relating to energy-saving - understand the dialogue and the ways to save energy II. Language contents : * Grammar : - Phrasal verbs : turn on , turn off - Making suggestions : suggest + V-ing * Vocabulary : (n) bill, plumber , crack , dripping faucet , pipe (a) enormous III.Techniques : Chatting, Rub out and remember, True or Fasle statement prediction IV. Teaching aids : Cassette, pictures, tape V. Procedures : Teacher’s and Students’ activitives Content T. asks Ss to look at the pictures on page 57 ( or shows the pictures on the board ) T. asks Ss some questions so that they can understand the pictures Let Ss look at the pictures then work in pairs to make a list of things the family could do to save energy T. corrects, then gives Ss the marks T. presents vocabulary by simple English, pictures……. T. can explain some words in Vietnamese Ss listen and take notes T. checks vocabulary by using “ rub out and 1. Warm up / marks * Chatting : - Is the TV set on ? - Who is watching TV ? - Should we turn off the TV set ? - Is the light still burning ? - What should we do to save energy ? - What should we do to save water ? - Should we turn off the fauces after using? * Look at the pictures . Make a list of things the family could do to save energy : - Suggested answers : - Turn off the faucets when there is enough water - Turn off the lights or the TV set or the radio when nobody is in ………………………………………………………… ……………………………………………… 2. Presentation : 1. True or Fasle statements prediction : - Set the scene : T : Mrs Mi is talking to her neighbor , Mrs Ha about the water bill this month. Now work in pairs and guess about the conservation between them a. Mrs Ha is worried about her water bill b. Mrs Mi gives Mrs Ha advice on how to save water c. Mrs Ha has checked the pipes in her house and found no cracks d. Mrs Ha suggests getting some tool to check cracks in the pipes e. Mrs Mi suggests taking showers to save water 3. Practice 1.
