Goals & Objectives: 1. Topic: Technology and you  After studying this lesson, sts may know more about the uses of a computer. For example, it’s used to produce newspapers and magazines, send messages, calculate, etc. 2. Linguistic:  Students can know the name of different parts of a computer in English as: central prosessing unit( CPU): Bộ vi xử lý CD ROMs: đĩa CD Keyboard: bàn phím Visual display unit: màn hình Mouse: chuột Floppy disks: đĩa mềm Printer: máy in Speakers: loa 3. Skill:  Reading for gist and for specific information.  Discussing in group or in pair the uses of a computer.  Pronouncing the difficult words as: computer, miraculous, appropriate, etc. II. Resources and Materials:  Textbook ( grade 10) , real objects ( mouse, CD ROMs, speaker) and pictures showing modern computers and the illustrating of different parts of a computer (CD ROMs, Keyboard, Visual display unit, Mouse, etc) III. ( công nghệ và con người) Pre-reading: - Read words in the box loudly. - ask Sts to look at the illustrations of different parts of a computer system - Ask students to work in pairs to match each numbered item with one of the words or phrases in the box. - Go round and observe. - - Give some new words used in the passage: Bill(n): hóa đơn foreign language(n): ngoại ngữ miraculous(Adj): kì diệu calculate(v): tính toán electronic(adj): thuộc điện tử memo: bản thông báo and then give the names of the objects. Sts answer: This is Television/…. Yes, I have./ No, I haven’t. Yes, It is./ No, It isn’t. - Work in pairs to find the names of the parts of a computer. 1. D-visual display Unit 2. E- mouse 3. While-reading: * Passage - Ask students to look through the passage and read to themselves for main content. - ask Sts: are there any words that you don’t know? - ask Sts for understanding or yet. e.g: Do you understand the passage? - Read the passage loudly. - Ask some Sts to read the passage aloud. - Help them to read the passage when they need. * Task 1 - Read the words in each columns - Let students work in groups to match the word or phrase in A with its definition in B. * Task 2 - Read the three options. - Ask students to decide which of the three options below the best title for the passage. What’s the best title A, B or C? A. What Can the Computer Do? - Let them work in groups. - Introduce students to check information in the passage for the answer. * Task 3: - Give the Sts the cues and then read the two questions and verbs given. - Ask students to use the cues below to answer the questions in task 3 - Let them work in pairs - Walk round and help students if necessary. Post- reading: - Ask students to close their books then discuss other uses of the computer in our daily life - Walk round and help students if they can’t do. - Let them work in pairs. Homework: - Ask Sts to reread the passage at C. What Can the Computer Do? - Listen to the teacher - Work in pairs A: What can a computer do to help us in our daily life? B: It can help us to visit shops and place of entertainment, paybills, read book, receive emails, learn, etc. A: Why is a computer a miraculous device? B: It’s a miraculous device because it’s a capable of doing anything you ask, it’s a - Close the books - Listen to the teacher and discuss other uses of the computer in our daily life - Work in pairs A: Computers are used in many fields in our daily life.
