Objective By the end of lesson, students will be able to: - Pronounce the sounds / pt /, / bd /, / ps / and / bz /. - Pronounce the words and the sentences containing these sounds correctly. - Use cleft sentences (subject focus, object focus, and adverbial focus) correctly. II. Materials: textbook, handout, poster III. Procedure Time Teacher’s activities Students’ activities 10’ I. WARM UP - Giving an exercise and asking sts to correct the tense of verb in the blank 1. He (stop) ______ smoking 2 years ago. 2. The bus often (stop) _________ at the bus station. 3. Last week, a man (rob) _______ me of 100$. 4. He often (rob) __________ his parents of 100$. - Asking sts to give the answers and pronounce the verbs - Lead in: I will introduce you how to pronounce the verb ending by /p/, /b/ when added /ed/, /s/. * Pronunciation - Sticking on the board some words pronounced in 4 kinks of sound (/pt/, /bd/, /ps/, /bz/). - Reading those words 1 time /pt/ /pd/ /ps/ /pz/ stopped robbed stops robs jumped stabbed steps bribes stepped grabbed maps rubs trapped bribed shops clubs - Asking sts to listen and repeat chorally and individually - Delivering the handouts - Asking sts to practice reading some sentences in handout 1. Adv: It was in the garden that the girl drew the picture. - Eliciting the structure and asking sts + Which tense is used in this sentence? + What is the subject? + Do you know how to express the subject? - Asking sts to listen and repeat: + It was the girl who drew a picture in the garden. + What is the object? + Do you know how to express the object? - Asking sts to listen and repeat: + It was a picture which/that the girl drew in the garden. + How about “in the garden”? How to express? - Asking sts to listen and repeat: + It was in the garden that the girl drew the picture. - Giving another example b. The boy often plays football on Sunday. => S: It is the boy who often plays football on Sunday. O: It is football which the boy often plays on Sunday. Adv: It is on Sunday that the boy often plays football. 2. Form - Asking sts to look at these sentences again + Who can give me the form of these sentence - Showing the form: (S): It + was/is + S +who/that + V + O + Adv (O): It + was/is + O + whom/which/that + S + V+ Adv (Adv): It + was/is + Adv + that + S + V + O => It + be + focus (S, O, Adv) + that + relative pronouns - Paying the example - Listening and answering + simple past + the girl + No - Listening and repeating + a picture + No - Listening and repeating + No - Listening and repeating - Paying attention - Paying attention and answering + Yes/No - Paying attention 3. Use - Asking sts: + Who can tell me this form is used for what? + To emphasize?  Cleft sentence is used to emphasize the important part of the sentence: Subject, object, and adverb.  The tense of the verb “to be” agrees with the main verb of the original sentence. - Asking sts to copy down the form and use. - Answering + + Yes - Copying 15’ III. PRACTICE Task 1: Write the following sentence after the model. Paying to the underlined words. Example: The man gave her the book.  It was the man who gave her the book. 1. The boy visited his uncle last month. 2. My mother bought me a present on my birthday. 3. Nam’s father got angry with him. 4. She sent her friend the postcard. 5. His father repaired the bicycle for him. 6. The man is learning English. - Delivering the handouts. - Eliciting the task + Read the instruction + What are you going to in the task? - Running through the new words - Asking sts to work individually - Giving time for sts to do + You have 5 minutes to do. - Asking sts to go to the board and write the answer - Checking and giving the correct answer - Getting the handout - Listening and answering + Reading + Write the following sentence after the model.
