332 Adjusting the lighting Adobe Photoshop CS4 Digital Classroom 13 Adjusting the lighting When working with 3D objects in Photoshop, you can control the lighting, and add additional light sources, or change the position and direction of the default lighting. In this part of the lesson, you will adjust the lighting to be more intense, thereby improving the readability of the text on the can. 1 With the ps1301_work le still open, and the 3D panel still open, scroll down to the rst In nite Light 2 and click on it. 2 In the options below, use the slider to change the intensity to a value of 2. The light becomes br ighter. Select In nite Light 2, then increase the light intensity. You can experiment with the placement of the light by using the Rotate the Light button ( ) in the 3D panel. In this part of the lesson, you simply select the Rotate the Light button and randomly reposition the light; no speci c coordinates are necessary. As mentioned earlier, no speci c coor dinates are required for this; simply nd a location that you feel works well for the image. 4 Press Ctrl+S (Windows) or Command+S (Mac OS) to save the le . Keep the ps1301_work le open for the next part of the lesson. Animating the soda can You touched on some animation techniques in Lesson 12; now you will have the opportunity to make your can go for a spin. 1 Using the 3D Rotate tool, click and drag the 3D image in the image area, so that the man’s face is facing forward. Use the 3D Rotate tool to reposition the can. 2 Choose Window > Animation. If the Animation window does not say ANIMATION (TIMELINE) on the tab, click and hold down on the Animation’s panel menu and choose Convert to Timeline from the drop-down menu. Then click on the stopwatch icon ( ) to the left of the 3D Object Position. This de nes the present position as being the starting point for the animation. Start the animation by de ning the starting object position. 4 Now click and drag the Current Time Marker (CTM) over to 3:00 in the Timeline. 5 Using the 3D Rotate tool ( ), click and drag the 3D object until the text is visible. A keyframe is automatically entered on the Timeline, indicating that there is a change in the position. 6 Using the 3D Roll tool ( ) (located under the 3D Rotate tool), click and drag to tilt the can in a di erent direction. No exact adjustment is necessary. You have already created an animation, but you will now copy your r st keyframe and paste it later in the Timeline so that the can returns to the same position. 7 Right+click (Windows) or Ctrl+click (Mac OS) on the keyframe at the start of the Timeline , and choose Copy Keyframes from the contextual menu. 8 Click and drag the CTM to 6:00, and from the Animation panel menu, choose Paste K eyframe(s). The keyframe is pasted at the 6:00 point in the Timeline. Testing your animation You will now test your animation, and export it as a QuickTime movie. 1 Click and drag the CTM back to the beginning of the Timeline in the Animation panel. 2 Press the Play button ( ) in the Timeline panel to see your animation in action. When you are nished viewing, press the Stop button ( ). 3 Choose File > Export > Render Video. Understand that this is a basic introduction to the possibilities of using 3D and video , so you will leave the settings in the Render Video at their defaults. If you are a video professional, you will nd many of the features that you need to output a quality video in this dialog box. Then click on the Select Folder button to navigate to your ps13lessons folder. 5 In the File Options category, choose QuickTime Movie from the QuickTime Export dr op-down menu. Notice the additional le for mats that you can select in the drop-down menu. By using the Settings button, you can customize each one of these le formats for an optimal export. There are many le formats to choose from when exporting a video. 6 Press Render. You have now created a working 3D video. To test this movie, launch the QuickTime Pla yer, and choose File > Open File. If you do not have the QuickTime Player, you can download it at apple.com/downloads. With normal 2D images, you can now create more dynamic images. Try creating a simple 3D postcard, and then painting on the 3D object. 1 Open any 2D image. An extra one is provided if you want to stay within the theme of music, named ps1302.psd. 2 Choose 3D > New 3D Postcard From Layer. 3 Choose the 3D Rotate tool, and click and drag to see that you have turned your 2D image into a 3D postcar d. 4 To experiment further, you can choose a unique brush and change its blending mode. In this example , Flowing Stars was selected from the Brushes panel, and its Master Dimension was changed to over 600 pixels; the blending mode was changed to Vivid Light. Have fun experimenting with painting on 3D objects. Experiment with gradients and all your brush tools, including the Clone Stamp tool ( ). Just make sure that you change blending modes to create realistic painting e ects on your image. Answers 1 You do not need to have any particular le type open in order to create a 3D object. If it opens in Photoshop, and you are in RGB mode, it will work. 2 To reposition a texture on a 3D object, follow these steps: a. Doub le-click on the 3D layer; the 3D panel appears. b. In the 3D panel, choose the layer name, Label or Cap, that the texture is applied to. c. Click on the Edit the Di use Texture button to the right of Di use, and choose Edit Texture. d. In the Texture Properties dialog box, enter new values for the U O set and/or V O set, and then click OK. 3 You can choose 3D > Export 3D layer and choose to export using any one of these for mats: a. Collada (DAE) b. Google Earth 4 (KMZ) c. U3D (U3D), which you can import into Acrobat 8 and 9 les. d. Don’t worry about comprehending all of them at this point, many of these features, as well as other improvements are incorporated in the lessons. 64-bit version Many users have been waiting for this improvement with bated breath, and it is nally here. If you have the appropriate processor and operating system, you can take advantage of Adobe Photoshop’s CS4 64-bit version. The Photoshop CS4 64-bit version provides a wider data path, so it speeds the processing time when sending large amounts of data to and from RAM (active memory) to the processor. This long-awaited build is the answer to the users who work with 1GB les or larger and need to take advantage of the improved 64-bit memory allocation. With the improvements in the Application bar, and newly improved panels, and helpful Tooltips, you can more easily nish your project, and spend less time searching the Help menu. Find out how to take advantage of the new and improved workspace in Lesson 2, “Getting to Know the Workspace.” The new and improved workspace includes panels and an Application bar. In this section, you will nd out about two of these panels, several more are referenced throughout this book. Adjustments panel Photoshop CS4 takes non-destructive editing one step further with the addition of the Adjustments panel. The functions that are on the panel are not new, but certainly are easier to nd. Use the Adjustments panel to change a layer(s) to grayscale, add a tint of color, or correct the color; with no destruction of the original pixels. Adjustments are truly the future of digital imaging, and you can nd out how to take advantage of them in Lesson 9, “Taking Layers to the Max.” The new Adjustments panel helps you to create non-destructive editing changes.
