Disable Menu Bars and the Start Button (Windows 95/98/Me/2000/XP) This tweak can be used to disable the menu bar in standard Windows applications and the Start Button. Hide or Display Administrative Tools Menu (Windows 2000/XP) As with Windows NT, Windows 2000 has an 'Administrative Tools' folder on the Start Menu. This folder contains powerful administration utilities and therefore can be hidden to avoid accidental use. Remove the Windows Security on Start Menu (Windows Terminal Server) This setting is used to hide the Windows NT Security menu item on the Start Menu of a terminal server session. Remove the Ability to Right Click on the Start Button (All Windows) Usually when a user right clicks on the start button they are able to select Open, Explore or Find. Use this tweak to remove these options and secure your desktop. Hide Control Panel, Printer and Network Settings (All Windows) Popular This restriction removes the Control Panel, Printers and Network Connection settings from the Start menu. Disable Drag-and-Drop on the Start Menu (Windows 98/Me/2000/XP) This restriction prevents users from modifying the Start menu by dragging and dropping items. Remove Run from the Start Menu (All Windows) Removes the ability to launch commands or processes from the Start menu by removing the Run option. Remove Search from the Start Menu (All Windows) This restriction removes the Search feature from the Start Menu. Remove the Help Option from the Start Menu (Windows 2000/Me/XP) This restriction removes the Help option from the Start Menu. Remove Tray Items from Taskbar (Windows XP) This setting removes and restricts access to the tray icons normally found next to the clock on the taskbar. Remove the Toolbars on the Taskbar (Windows XP) This restriction is used to remove all the toolbars, including Quick Launch, from the taskbar. It also restricts the ability to re-enable them. Lock the Taskbar (Windows XP) This restriction is used to force the locking of the taskbar and restrict users from making any changes to its position. Force the Use of the Classic Start Menu (Windows XP) This restriction forces users to use the classic Windows start menu, instead of the new format introduced with Windows XP. Hide the Taskbar Clock (Windows XP) This setting allows you to remove the clock from the system tray on the taskbar. Restrict Shortcut and WinHelp Commands (Windows NT/2000/XP) This restriction can be used to specify which directories contain Help files that can use the Shortcut and WinHelp commands. By clearing this setting you can also completely disable the help commands on the system. Secure Access to Removable Drives (Windows NT/2000/XP) This setting determines whether the ability to access removable drives is available to other users. Restrict the Language and Locale Region (Windows 2000/XP) This restriction is used to set the language used in menus and dialog boxes in Windows and prevent users from changing it. When enabled the system disables the menus and dialog boxes in the Regional Options in Control Panel. Disable Group Policy Objects (Windows 2000/XP) This setting is used to disable the use of group policy objects on the local computer. Change Default Administrator Ownership (Windows XP) Windows XP may assign the ownership of some file system objects to the Administrator account, instead of the Administrators group. This behaviour may not be desirable where there are multiple administrative users. Reboot Windows After a Crash (Windows NT/2000/XP) This parameter controls whether Windows should automatically reboot after a system failure or if the blue crash screen should be displayed. Configure Windows Script Signature Security (All Windows) This setting is used to define whether trusted and untrusted scripts should be executed when using signature verification. By requiring a signature the system will only execute scripts from verified authors. Secure Access to CD-ROM Drives (Windows NT/2000/XP) This setting determines whether data in the CD-ROM drive is accessible to other users. Specify Executable Files to be Lauched by Winlogon (Windows NT/2000/XP) This setting specifies a list of executable files to be run by Winlogon in the system context when Windows starts. Secure Network Access to the Windows Registry (Windows NT/2000/XP) Windows supports accessing a remote registry via the Registry Editor across a network. The default setting allows for users to connect and modify data within the remote registry.
