Aims: -Students can pronounce 2 sounds /s/ - /z/ and understand how to use “To+infinitive” correctly. 2. Objective: By the end of the lesson, students will be able to: - Distinguish the sounds /s/ & /z/. - Use To-inf to express purposes and make Wh-questions appropriately. 3. Materials: Student’s book, notebook 4. Anticipated problem: -Students may make mistakes when using conjunctions and doing exercises, so teacher should help them. 5. Method of teaching: Integrated, mainly communicative 6. Procedure: Steps Teacher’s activities Students’activities Pronunciation ( 10 mins) - Ask students to look at their books then introduce to them *Listen and repeat : /s/ Sue Sip piece Said Bus price /z/ Zoo Zip peas Please Buzz prize - Read loudly then ask students to repeat - Introduce : /s/ - /z/ - Correct pronunciation for the students * Practise these sentences 1 = /s/ 2 = /z/ 1. Susan loves classical music. 1 2 2 1 2 2. I like to listen to jazz records. 1 2 2 3. My aunt likes to watch the film “The Sound of Music”. 1 1 2 4. But my cousin prefers going to the concerts. 2 2 1 1 5. He’s won the first prize for singing folk songs. 2 1 2 1 1 2 6. I’d like a piece of bread and some peas, please. 1 1 2 2 - Read the sentences loudly - Ask students to repeat - Open the books - Repeat the words in chorus then individual. - Practise sentences in chorus then individual. - Correct pronunciation for students Grammar (12 mins) (7 mins) (13 mins) * To + infinitive to express purposes - Write some sentences on the board and underline the “to+infinitive”. + She gets up early morning to cook breakfast for her family. + To relax, Susan listens to pop music. - Ask students to comment on the use of “to+ infinitive” in these examples. - Elicit the use of “to+ infinitive”: to express purposes. - Ask some students give some similar examples. Exercise 1: - Let students work in pairs. - Ask students to do Exercise 1. - Walk round to provide help. - Ask them to go to the board and write down the answers. - Give feedback. : 1. I phoned for her to tell her the good news. 2. I’m saving money to buy a cassette player. 3. She practises singing all the day to win the singing contest. 4. I’m learning French to sing French songs. 5. The monitor always go to class on time to set a good example for the class. - Check and correct mistakes. Exercise 2: - Introduce Exercise 2 to students and explain how to do it - Ask students to do it. - Let them work individually. - Check, correct mistakes.  1. to read 2. to buy 3. to post 4. to invite 5. to learn * Wh – Questions: - Call on some students to make some wh-questions and write them on board - Elicit the form and the use of “Wh-questions”. *   * Form: : - Listen to the teacher - Write down on their notebooks - Give some examples - Work in pairs and do exercises 1. - Raise hands to go to the board write down the answers. - Listen to the teacher and check mistakes. - Do exercise 2 - Listen to the teacher and check mistakes. - Make questions using Wh – questions. - Give the form and use of the Wh – questions. - Listen and copy down. Exercise 3 - Ask students to work individually. - Ask students to do exercise 3 in the textbook. - Walk round and help them. - Ask Ss to go to the board and write down the answers. - Give feedback. * Answer keys: 1. What will you do if it rains? 2. What sort of music does your family enjoy listening to? 3. When did he leave for Ho Chi Minh city? 4. Who wants to talk to you? 5. How did you spend the evening last night? 6. When does the film start? 7. Who is your favorite musician? 8. Why do you like pop music? - Give more examples for each form. - Work individually and do exercise 3. - Raise hands to go to the board and do exercise 3 - Listen to the teacher check mistakes. W rapping up (3 mins) - Summarise the main points. - Ask students to complete exercises. - Listen to the teacher.
