179 ADOBE GOLIVE 6.0 Classroom in a Book 4 Move the cursor over the top edge of the right column until it changes to a down-facing arrow. Then click to select all of the cells in the column. Selecting all cells in column The Cell tab in the Table Inspector is automatically selected. 5 In the Table Inspector, click the Color field to select the field and display the Color palette. 6 In the Color palette, type 99CC99 in the Value text box, and press Enter or Return. The selected color appears in the preview pane of the Color palette and the Color field in the Table Inspector. In addition, the color of the selected cells changes to green. 7 In the document window, click in the blank space outside the table to deselect all of its cells. Sorting the contents of a table GoLive makes it easy for you to sort the contents of a table, so that the contents of its rows or columns appear in alphabetical or numerical order. You can apply the sort to an entire table, specific rows, specific columns, or specific cells. Now you’ll use the Select tab of the Table palette to sort the contents of the table. 1 Move the pointer to the left edge of the table, and click to select the table. 2 In the Table palette, click the Select tab. (Choose Window > Table palette to open the Table palette if necessary.) LESSON 4 180 Working with Text and Tables 3 In the preview of the table that appears in the Select tab, drag to select all of the table cells except the cells in the first row, and click Sort. 4 In the Sort Table dialog box, choose Rows from the Sort pop-up menu to indicate that you want to sort the order of the rows in the table. By sorting the order of the rows, you will make the contents of one or more columns appear in numerical or alphabetical order. 5 In the top leftmost Sort By pop-up menu, choose Column1 to specify the first column as the primary column to be used when sorting the table’s contents. This means that sorting the contents of the first column will be the first priority for GoLive. You’ll specify for the first column to be sorted in ascending order. 6 Make sure that Ascending is selected from the pop-menu on the Sort By line. Because the table only has two columns, you don’t need to specify a secondary or tertiary column (Then By option) to be used when sorting the table’s contents. Sorting the contents of the second column will automatically be the second priority for GoLive. 181 ADOBE GOLIVE 6.0 Classroom in a Book 7 Click OK to sort the selected table cells using the criteria that you’ve specified. 8 Click outside the table to deselect it, and choose File > Save. Applying fonts When you create text for a Web page in GoLive, you can choose whether to let the user’s browser select the default font to be used when viewing your page or you can define a preferred font set. The default in GoLive is to let the user’s browser determine which font is used. You can check what fonts or font sets, if any, have been used on a page using the Type menu. 1 In the appraise.html document, choose Type > Font. Notice that Default Font is selected because you haven’t applied any particular font. This means that the user’s Web browser will select the default font to use when viewing your Web page. LESSON 4 182 Working with Text and Tables GoLive contains default sets of fonts that you can apply to text in your documents. One set contains the Times New Roman, Georgia, and Times fonts. If you use this set for your Web page, a visitor’s browser will attempt to display text first in Times New Roman, second in Georgia, and third in Times. If none of the fonts in the set is installed on the viewer’s system, the browser displays text using its default font. Because all the other pages on the Gage Vintage Guitars Web site were created using the Arial font set as the preferred font set, you’ll change the font of the entire page. 2 Click anywhere in the text on the appraise.html page to insert a cursor. Then choose Edit > Select All to select all of the text in the document. 3 Choose Type > Font > Arial to apply the Arial font set to the selected text. 4 Click inside the document to deselect the text. You can see the fonts included in the Arial font set in the Type menu. 5 Choose Type> Font > Edit Font Sets. If necessary, expand the Arial font set in the Font Set Editor. 183 ADOBE GOLIVE 6.0 Classroom in a Book 6 When you have finished reviewing the font sets, click Cancel to close the Font Set Editor. Most of the text in the appraise.html document changes to the Arial font. Notice, however, that the text in the table and the table caption continue to use the Times font. To change the fonts used by the text in the table, you need to select the table caption and cells individually. 7 Select the “Abbreviations” text in the table caption, and choose Type > Font > Arial. Then click outside the selected text to deselect it. The text in the table caption changes to the Arial font. 8 Click the top edge of the left column to select all of the cells in the column. Click the top edge of the right column to add its cells to the selection. Then choose Type > Font > Arial, and click outside the selected table cells to deselect them. The text in the table cells changes to the Arial font. 9 Choose File > Save to save your work. You can also use GoLive to create sets of fonts that you can apply to text in your documents. For more information, see “Creating and applying font sets” in the Adobe GoLive 6.0 online Help. 185 ADOBE GOLIVE 6.0 Classroom in a Book Capturing a table style Now you’ll capture the table style that you’ve created. When you capture a table style, the style is added to the Style tab of the Table palette, so that you can reuse the style and create a consistent look for tables throughout your Web site. 1 Click the top or left edge of the table to select it. 2 In the Table palette, click the Style tab. 3 Click the New Table Style button ( ) at the bottom of the palette to create a new table style. 4 In the New Table Style dialog box, type Gage as the name of the new table style. LESSON 4 186 Working with Text and Tables 5 Click OK to save the style of the selected table in the document window and save it as the new table style. To apply the new style to another table, you can simply select the desired table in the document window, choose the name of the new table style from the pop-up menu in the upper left corner of the Style tab, and click Apply. 6 Close the Table palette. Editing text GoLive lets you edit text in your documents with the ease of a word-processing appli- cation: • You can delete text by selecting it and pressing Delete, choosing Edit > Cut, or pressing Ctrl+X (Windows) or Command+X (Mac OS). • You can find and correct spelling errors by choosing Edit > Check Spelling. • You can find and replace text by choosing Edit > Find. Finding and replacing text Now you’ll find the word “loud” and replace it with the word “powerful.” You’ll begin by setting preferences for finding text. You’ll have GoLive keep the Find window in front of the document window when a match is found. 1 Choose Edit > Preferences. 2 In the left pane of the Preferences dialog box, click the Find icon to display preferences for finding text. 187 ADOBE GOLIVE 6.0 Classroom in a Book 3 Choose Keep Find Window In Front from the When Match Is Found menu in the right pane, and click OK. Now you’ll search for the text to replace. 4 Scroll upward in the document window, so that you can view the beginning of the document. Then click before the main heading on the page to insert a cursor. 5 Choose Edit > Find. 6 In the Find window, select the Find & Replace tab. Then type loud in the Find text box. 7 Click the triangle ( ) next to Replace to open the Replace text box. In the Replace text box, type powerful, and click Find. The word “loud” is highlighted in the document. LESSON 4 188 Working with Text and Tables 8 In the Find window, click Replace. In the document, “loud” is replaced with “powerful.” 9 Close the Find window, and choose File > Save. Checking spelling No matter whether you type your own material or import material provided by others, it is a good idea to run Check Spelling whenever you finish constructing a page. You’ll do that now. 1 Create an insertion point in the appraise.html document. 2 Choose Edit > Check Spelling. 3 In the Check Spelling dialog box, make sure that English (US) is selected from the Language pop-up menu and that the From Top option is selected. 4 You can click the icon next to More Options to see additional options that you can select for the spell checking operation. 5 Click the Start button to start spell checking.
