UNIT 12: SPORTS AND PASTIMES Period 1: (A1 + A2) Date of preparation: Date of teaching: I/ OBJECTIVES: - Talking about sporting activities and pastimes - Developing listening and reading skills II/ Contents Grammar: The simple present continues (review) Vocabulary: words relating to sports and pastimes. III/ TECHNIQUES: - Brainstorming - Eliciting - Questions and answers IV/ TEACHING AIDS: - Pictures, colored chalk, a cassette recorder and tapes. V/ PROCEDURES: STAGES TEACHER AND STUDENT’S ACTIVITIES CONTENTS Warm up Presentation T checks old lesson T asks the students some questions to lead in the new lesson and elicits some answers to introduce the new lesson. T plays the cassette once without stopping. The Sts listen and read in silently (books closed) T plays the cassette again. The students listen and repeat (books opened) T asks students give new words. T presents some new words T uses pictures ang actions to express the meaning of new words T reads then student read in chorus Sts copy the new words in their notebooks T plays the cassette once again, sentence by sentence. The Sts listen and repeat sentence by sentence. T reviews the simple present continuous . T asks the Sts to give structure and the usage of present continuous and to write examples on the board. What do you do to keep healthy?  Have a good diet play sports. : New words Swim (v)  swimming (Bơi) Skips (v)  skipping (nhảy dây ) Jog (v)  Jogging (Đi bộ ) Badminton (n): (cầu lông) Table tennis (n): (bóng bàn ) To do aerobics: (thể dục nhịp điệu ) To plays soccer/ badminton/ volleyball/ tennis/ table tennis Structure and usages of present continuous (+) S + am/is/are + V_ing + O. (-) S+ am/is/are +_not + V_ing + O. (?) am/is/are + S + V_ing + O? Usage: express the action are happening Practice Production Consolidation T presents Wh-question: T asks Sts to practice in pairs using picture in A1 to ask and answer T shows some pictures. T calls some pair go to the board and to ask and answer with this picture T makes some gestures and asks the Sts: For example: What am I doing?  You are playing football ………… T asks some Sts to make some gestures and to make some questions. The Sts answer them. What’s she / he doing?  She / He are doing aerobics  He is going/ skipping/ … T calls one student stand up to review lesson . What is he/she doing? He /she is What are they doing? They are Homework: Learn by heart new word. Prepare new lesson .
