U.S. Collector Coins – (Lincoln Cents, Indian Head Cents, Buffalo Nickels, Mercury Dimes, Barber Coins, Walking Liberty Half Dollars, Franklin Half Dollars, Morgan Silver Dollars, Peace Dollars,…). This area of the market was mixed during June. BU Rolls of Lincoln Cents and Jefferson Nickels were soft. Continued weakness in the area of circulated Indian Head Cents and Buffalo Nickels being sold as singles. One bright spot was the value of common rolls of Buffalo Nickels, Indian Head Cents, and Liberty V Nickels which did show an increase in activity and in prices that buyers were willing to pay. There was weakness in better date Peace Silver dollars; in auctions some sold for around 50 to 60 percent of CoinDealerNewsletter (CDN) Bid - not good! Circulated Morgan Silver dollars did show a slight increase in the activity and prices. Overall market rating: Stable. Bullion – Gold, Silver, Platinum, and Palladium – (90% silver or “Junk” silver, world bullion coins, US gold – circulated pre-1933, and modern Silver and Gold Eagles). Silver and gold were both flat to down for the month of June. Silver opened the month at $27.38 and closed the month at $28.10. June was a rather dull month for silver. Gold started off June at $1606.00 and finished the month at $1598.50. Premiums remained virtually unchanged from previous months for both silver and gold coins. One small increase was seen in the premium paid for U.S. 90% silver coins sold in a lot. On average, lots of U.S. 90% silver coins sell for a ten percent premium over their melt value in an auction format. This is typical for the price of gold and silver to drift side ways during the summer months. Selected Auction sales: 25 circulated Mercury dimes mixed dates $62.50 (melt $48.85), $3.00 Face Value US 90% Silver Coins $69.00 (melt $58.63), 2006 Canada $5 Silver Maple Leaf Choice BU $43.51 (melt $26.90), 1997 China 10 Yuan Gold Panda 1/10 Ounce $181.99 (melt $161.80), 2010 Australia $1 Year of Tiger one Troy ounce $56.05 (melt $28.40), 1987 Gem BU American Silver Eagle one Troy ounce $37.00, 1920 Mexico Gold 2 Peso AU $92.99 (melt $75.00), 5 Gram Gold Engelhard Bar .9999 fine $280.08 (melt $260.45), 1900 Liberty Head AU $5 Half Eagle $422.00 (CDN $400).
