The Belgian minister also met Deputy Prime Minister Hoang Trung Hai. The Vietnamese official told his guest that Viet Nam attached importance to reinforcing co-operation with Belgium. The Deputy PM hailed the support from Flanders and Wallonia-Brussels through several education and human-resources training projects. Before her trip to Ha Noi, the Belgium minister also visited the Soai Rap dredging project financed by Belgium in HCM City. Of the project's VND2.8 trillion (US$134 million) investment, VND2.2 trillion ($105 million) was in the form of official development loans from Belgium and the remainder from the city budget. When completed in 2014, the Soai Rap River will be able to receive vessels of up to 50,000-70,000 deadweight tonnes (DWT) and will help speed up the construction of the Hiep Phuoc Port. The use of the Soai Rap River, together with the Cai Mep-Thi Vai River in southern Ba Ria-Vung Tau Province, is expected to greatly help development in the southern economic zone and make Hiep Phuoc Port one of the major ports in the region. — VNS http://vietnamnews.vn/politics-laws/247515/vn-flanders-to-bolster-seaport-ties.html Saigon Times: Vietnam to open tra fish distribution center in Europe Pham Le Monday, November 11,2013,22:46 (GMT+7) By Pham Thai - The Saigon Times Daily HCMC – The Vietnam Association of Seafood Exporters and Producers (Vasep) on Sunday si gned a memorandum of understanding with Port of Zeebrugge (Belgium) on building a tra fish distribution center there. This is part of a cooperation agreement between the Vietnamese and Belgian governments aiming to boost Vietnam’s export to EU. According to Joachim Coens, CEO of Port of Zeebrugge, the port has a good connection with consumption markets in the EU. Besides, there will be a direct sea route from Vietnam to the port next year, helping shorten transport duration and costs. In addition to the location advantage, the port’s distribution and electronic commodity auction services will create a new purchasing method which is different from the current method of purchasing tra fish. A sole tra fish supplier in Vietnam will directly work with an importer at the port via auctions. Nguyen Huu Dung, vice president of Vasep, said that with electronic auctions, enterprises would no longer have to offer tra fish at an unreasonably low price nor Truong Dinh Hoe (L), general secretary of Vasep, and Joachim Coens, CEO of Port of Zeebrugge, shake hands at the signing ceremony - Photo: Thai Hang work individually with importers to avoid undercutting among enter prises. Instead of selling tra fish separately as it traditionally is, Vietnam’s tra fish exporters can skip one step and go straight to the distribution system before products reach consumers. Zeebrugge is a deepsea port and a gateway to the European market. It is in the range of ports between Le Havre and Hamburg, which together handle one billion tons of cargo per year. Earlier, Deputy Prime Minister Hoang Trung Hai and the Ministry of Industry and Trade visited Port of Zeebrugge to learn seafood distribution activities there. http://english.thesaigontimes.vn/Home/business/trade/31901/Vietnam-to-open- tra-fish-distribution-center-in-Europe.html Vietnamnet: GOVERNMENT Last update 11:53 | 12/11/2013 VN, Flanders to bolster seaport ties Viet Nam and Belgium's northern region of Flanders yesterday, Nov 11, signed a letter of intent to co-operate over the use of seaports from 2014-16.
