Analysis of at least two local markets and one supermarket supply chains The report describes safe vegetable production in the Nghe An province in the context of national vegetable production for Vietnam. It provides key background information on the current status of safe vegetable production in the region and the potential for this area to develop. The project team has completed an analysis of vegetable supply in Vietnam. It covers vegetable producers, the smallholder farmers which produce in the various regions. There are sections on • Vegetable Producers • Collectors • Traditional wholesalers • Modern wholesalers • Processor • Traditional retailers • Modern retailers • Food catering sector There is a detailed section on Vietnamese consumers and the a detailed analysis and comparison of traditional versus modern vegetable retailing in Vietnam. 2. Description of crop specifications to meet market requirements for each supply chain The specification for the supply of watermelons and cabbage to modern retailers is included. This is an example only, as individual retailers will require variations on this, related to their own marketing strategies and market requirements. There are significant regional differences in tastes in Vietnam, and also a strong recognition among consumers of seasonality and the regions in which produce is grown. This is quite different from Australia for example, where the expectation is more often 12 months continuous supply. This strong recognition of region and season provides an good foundation for effective market definition and effective supply of these markets.
