Tiếng Anh 10- GLOBAL SUCCESS ) Research method - Encourage and guide students to participate in practical activities, experience activities, projects and write presentations… - Promote the active and creative role of students - Orientation for learners: Learners are involved in all stages of the teaching process, including the topic identification stage; The teacher's role is to guide them - Action-oriented: Learners perform learning tasks of a practical nature - Integrated nature: Students are divided into groups, each group solves a task related to implementing the common topic of the whole class - Expand learners' interests, interests, and experiences II THE RESEASCH CONTENT Theoretical background There are many definitions of the direction of teaching through a large project/exercise Each definition points to an aspect that the author wants to address Carter and Thomas (1986, p.196) argue that learning through a large project/exercise needs three conditions: There is a problem to be solved (venue), there is self-control, and adjustment among members (interdisciplinary characteristic) and learners' autonomy According to the above scholars, to ensure the three conditions on each major exercise must have the following characteristics: Take place outside the classroom The main topics of the major project/assignment must be in the course curriculum Learners have to set their own plans and goals to achieve after completing the project It is no coincidence that project-based learning is adopted by many schools This extension of learning is due to many advantages of project-based teaching The first advantage of the project-based teaching method is its ability to promote the development of students' thinking and awareness Because this is a learning method that emphasizes learning through practice Thereby helping students accumulate more knowledge drawn from reality Another advantage of project-based teaching methods is that it enhances students' initiative With this learning method, the student is the decisive factor, the central subject of all problems, and also the one who gives the solution to the problem Therefore, they will have to prepare everything from planning, defining goals to implementing to solve the project In the project teaching method, teachers are only responsible for monitoring, supporting and giving direction This increases student initiative and responsibility Different from the traditional way of learning, the project-based teaching method allows students to participate in choosing content and topics that are suitable for their own abilities As a result, this method can stimulate creativity as well as help children be more interested in learning activities Practicing perseverance and persistence is also one of the advantages of project-based teaching During the project implementation, students must be selfreliant, self-aware, and actively participate in the learning stages This helps them practice and improve their perseverance, endurance and self-discipline Project-based teaching methods help students increase their initiative, improve their attitude of cooperation, listening and sharing At the same time, this method also helps students to be more responsible in their work because they will have to work in groups and a part of the work in it Practical background Dien Chau High School has 10 English teachers From the 2022-2023 school year, under the direct direction of Nghe An Department of Education and Training, the school organized for 10th graders to learn English under the new textbook program - "Global success" by the Ministry of Education and Training Education and Training promulgated within the framework of the 2020 foreign language project Students must pass an English proficiency test including all skills of Listening, Speaking, Reading and Writing with a score above the average to be eligible to be admitted study in this class The number of students per class ranges from 40 to 43 students This study was conducted on 120 students of grades 10 A5, 10 A6 and 10 C6 at Dien Chau High School in 2022-2023 The requirements of the foreign language subject are both challenging and new Most of the students live in rural areas, with limited foreign language knowledge, which leads to students' lack of passion for the subject Although many students participating in this study are active and motive, they still have many limitations in their ability to write reports and presentation skills in English Before using these methods, many groups can’t prepare well for their projects as well as their presentations, which leads to the failure in some PROJECT lessons The help of teacher in designing activities certainly create much better conditions for children to succeed in the PROJECT periods Before new school year, all English teachers have been trained and access to the new general education program 2018 and have been trained in many teaching methods The new point mentioned here is the way to teach project lessons - the time for students to prepare for their projects and presentations is nearly weeks, counting from the time of GETTING STARTED period This amount of time is suitable for teachers and students to prepare and find solutions for their project lessons From this basis, I have come up with the idea to write this teaching experience topic: “Some effective ways to design the activities helping students develop many useful skills through the PROJECT lessons (TIẾNG ANH 10)” The research methods 3.1 General methods * Stages of organizing project-based teaching: The first is to prepare, at this stage teachers need: Idea generation: Learn and create practical problems that students need to solve Selection of topics and sub-topics: Select one of the discovered problems for the project Planning learning tasks: In developing a plan, it is necessary to identify the work to be done, the estimated time, materials, funding, methods of conducting and assigning work in the group Next, the project implementation phase should include: Information collection: Information collection and processing of information obtained Conduct investigation: Theoretical knowledge, problem solving options are tested through practice Finally, at the end of the project, students will present their results and teachers will be the assessors according to the set criteria.- divide the class into groups to perform their duties such as preparing materials, participating in practical activities, experiential activities, doing projects, writing presentations… *Teacher’s methods: - prepare direction and design content of PROJECT lessons at the end of the first period “ Getting Started” of each Unit - assign specific tasks to each group, each student has specific things to to prepare for the presentation - guide groups to make clips, posters, search or take pictures to suit each topic - ask students to discuss to divide tasks to team members participating in PROJECT exercises - guide the groups to write the presentations before they send to teacher for feedback - collect the writing drafts of each group to help them edit their presentations, pictures, video clips suitably - encourage groups to create plays or have the real experiences relating to their projects and make reports by clips, pictures… - guide the groups to present their projects according to parts: warm – up/ prespeaking/ while- speaking/ post- speaking - encourage each group to appoint main speakers in each Project lesson, so that all students can get marks after PROJECT lessons - The class attendance and the comments, evaluation of colleagues about the Project lessons These ideas about the new project-based teaching methods have been chosen by our group to carry out an illustration teaching period – the research lesson successfully and have been also highly appreciated by all teachers – colleagues in our group These project-based teaching methods have received some positive reviews and have been encouraged to apply with all English teachers in our group so as to make the project lessons easier and better Specially, we have drawn a lot of experience to improve the project teaching lessons more and more effectively The result is most of the teachers have applied these above methods extensively to prepare for their new Project lessons Below are some pictures from the research lecture The illustration lesson in class 10C6 48 IV CONCLUSIONS AND SUGGESTIONS CONCLUSIONS 1.1 The novelty of the topic The project lesson is a new part designed for the new curriculum textbook, so it makes teachers and students face a lot of confusion and difficulties in teaching and learning Therefore, researching and finding the right direction and solution is an urgent and new thing so that the project lessons can take place smoothly and become more and more exciting and attractive for all students 1.2 Scientific The solutions of the initiative are designed in a scientific, collaborative, effective and practical way, which makes students active and excited when participating in real activities By this way, it is easier to promote their own strengths in study and develop a lot of necessary life skills 1.3 Efficiency Through a long period of aggressive and enthusiastic time, both teacher and students have achieved a lot of great success The careful and specific planning and scripting of the teachers combined with the efforts of the students in the preparation for the projects not only help us to have the good results, which are the moments of great experiences with the successful and engaging Project lessons, but also help students develop many important skills in study and life In study, these are team-building skill, discussion skill, presentation and demonstration skill, communication skills and the ability to listen, speak, read and write in English In their life, the practical experiences and meaningful activities they have participated in and invested in project lessons have helped students realize many good values and meanings in their life It is love, respect, sharing and responsibility towards family and loved ones The values are also the love for nature and life; the sympathy with the unfortunate people, thereby they know how to live more responsibly to protect nature, protect the living environment to be peaceful and fresh as well as know how to love and share with the pain and loss of those around to try harder in learning and training to become useful people in society and spread good feelings to
