There is a special visitor at school today. A writer talks to the class about the books he writes. He writes stories about lots of different things. Many of his stories are about animals who can talk. 3 Von, Sara, and Jane love the stories the author shares. Some of his stories make them laugh out loud! Von, Sara, and Jane want to write stories, too. They decide to start a writing club so that they can write books together and draw pictures to go in them. 4 The next day they meet at Jane’s house to talk about the stories they will write and the pictures they will draw. Each child has ideas for stories to write. Von wants to write stories about animals. 5 The friends need some supplies to get started. Sara says they need pencils. Jane thinks they need a pink block eraser. Von says they need paper. He wants to find a notebook that can hold a lot of stories because the writing club will be busy! 6 Chapter 2: The Writing Club Goes Shopping Chapter 2: Von makes a list of the things they need to buy. The children put money in their pockets. They each have coins to use to pay for their supplies. They are ready to go to the store with Jane’s mom. Jane puts her quarter on the counter Von puts his quarter on the counter next to Jane’s Sara adds her quarter and her dime to the group of coins They have ¢ in all! Chapter : More Things to Buy The children can buy something else for their writing club What should they buy?
