Nowadays, many high schools and universities prioritize students having international English language certificates Is it a positive or negative policy? Many colleges and universities have recently increased the enrollment opportunities available to students who hold international English language qualifications like the TOEIC, IELTS, and TOEFL Despite the fact that it gives them an advantage, I firmly believe that this policy has many shortcomings and will have detrimental effects First of all, favoring pupils with English certifications will result in unequal chances for entrance to high schools and universities Since not all students can pay or have access to classes at English centers, where they are instructed and given the necessary knowledge to obtain certificates, especially the poor Consequently, students who have an international certification seem to have an overweight advantage compared to other learners who not own one Those who live in remote places or in challenging situations, for instance, cannot take the IELTS exam since there are no centers there, but there are plenty in cities As a result, it is evident that rural students not only have challenging lifestyles but also miss out on opportunities to pursue higher education This may result in feelings of discrimination and lead to dissatisfaction with schools and education as well Second, over usage of these certifications might result in the loss of both employment chances and a prestigious educational degree People who pursue these degrees won't be aware of the subjects they'll need to study for their future careers People who want to enroll in IT courses at universities must, for instance, obtain an IELTS score However, they have forgotten that the use of foreign languages is quite limited in this sector and that it is crucial to write code and process their data As a result, students almost miss out on learning the fundamentals of IT and rely solely on their English proficiency to enter the course while having little to no proficiency in the IT domain In conclusion, it appears to be a bad policy for schools and universities to give foreign English language certificates preference for applicants because it not only creates disparities among students but also results in inaccurate assessments of their abilities during the admissions process
