CÁCH SỬ DỤNG A/AN/SOME/ANY/MUCH/MUCH A LÝ THUYẾT I CÁCH SỬ DỤNG A/AN Dùng “a” “an” trước danh từ số đếm Chúng có nghĩa Chúng dùng câu có tính khái qt đề cập đến chủ thể chưa đề cập từ trước Ví dụ: A ball is round (nghĩa chung, khái qt, tất bóng): Quả bóng hình trịn He has seen a girl (chúng ta khơng biết cậu bé nào, chưa đề cập trước đó): Anh vừa gặp cô gái 1.1 Dùng “an” trước: Quán từ “an ” dùng trước từ bắt đầu nguyên âm (trong cách phát âm, cách viết) Bao gồm: Các từ bắt đầu nguyên âm “a, e, i, o“ Ví dụ: an apple (một táo); an orange (một cam) Một số từ bắt đầu “u”: Ví dụ: an umbrella (một ô) Một số từ bắt đầu “h” câm: Ví dụ: an hour (một tiếng) Các từ mở đầu chữ viết tắt: an S.O.S/ an M.P 1.2 Dùng “a” trước: *Dùng “a“ trước từ bắt đầu phụ âm Chúng bao gồm chữ lại số trường hợp bắt đầu “u, y, h“ Ví dụ: A house (một nhà), a year (một năm), a uniform (một đồng phục)… *Dùng thành ngữ số lượng định như: a lot of/a great deal of/a couple/a dozen Ví dụ: I want to buy a dozen eggs (Tôi muốn mua tá trứng) *Dùng trước số đếm định thường hàng ngàn, hàng trăm : a/one hundred – a/one thousand Ví dụ: My school has a thousand students (Trường tối có nghìn học sinh) *Dùng trước “half” (một nửa) theo sau đơn vị nguyên vẹn: a kilo hay a half, hay ghép với danh từ khác để nửa phần (khi viết có dấu gạch nối): a half – share, a half – holiday (ngày lễ nghỉ nửa ngày) Ví dụ: My mother bought a half kilo of apples (Mẹ mua nửa cân táo) *Dùng với đơn vị phân số : 1/3( a/one third), 1/5 (a /one fifth), ¼ (a quarter) 130 Ví dụ: I get up at a quarter past six (Tôi thức dậy lúc 15 phút) *Dùng thành ngữ giá cả, tốc độ, tỉ lệ: a dollar, a kilometer, an hour, times a day Ví dụ: John goes to work four times a week (John làm lần tuần) II CÁCH SỬ DỤNG SOME Some thường dùng câu khẳng định, trước danh từ đếm số nhiều (countable plural nouns) danh từ không đếm (uncountable nouns) EX: My mother bought some eggs (Mẹ mua vài trứng.) There is some milk in the fridge (Có sữa tủ lạnh.) Some dùng câu hỏi mong chờ câu trả lời Yes (Có) EX: Have you brought some paper and a pen? (Bạn có mang theo giấy, viết chứ?) ➜ người nói hy vọng người nghe có mang theo giấy viết Did you buy some oranges? (Bạn có mua cam chứ?) ➜ người nói hy vọng người nghe mua cam Some dùng câu yêu cầu, lời mời lời đề nghị EX: Would you like some more coffee? (Anh dùng thêm tí cà phê nhé?) Let’s go out for some drink (Chúng ta uống nước đi.) III CÁCH SỬ DỤNG ANY Any thường dùng câu phủ định nghi vấn, trước danh từ đếm số nhiều danh từ không đếm EX: Have you got any butter? ~ Sorry, I haven’t got any butter (Bạn có tí bơ khơng? ~ Rất tiếc tơi khơng có bơ) There aren’t any chairs in the room (Khơng có ghế phòng.) [ = There are no chairs in the room.] Any có nghĩa “bất cứ” dùng mệnh đề khẳng định, trước danh từ số (đếm không đếm được) sau từ có nghĩa phủ định (never, hardly, scarely, without, ) EX: You can catch any bus They all go to the center (Bạn đón xe buýt Tất chúng đến khu trung tâm.) I’m free all day Come and see me anytime you like (Tôi rảnh rỗi ngày, Hãy đến thăm lúc anh thích.) He’s lazy He never does any work (Anh ta thật lười nhác Anh ta chẳng làm việc gì.) They crossed the frontier without any difficulty (Họ vượt qua biên giới khơng chút khó khăn.) 131 Any dùng mệnh đề If (If - clauses) EX: If there are any letters for me, can you send them on to this address? (Nếu có thư gửi cho tơi, bạn gửi chúng đến địa không?) If you need any more money, please let me know (Nếu anh cần thêm tiền, xin cho biết.) LƯU Ý Khi danh từ xác định, dùng some any khơng có danh từ theo sau EX: Tim wanted some milk, but he couldn’t find any (Tim muốn uống sữa, anh khơng tìm chút sữa nào.) If you have no stamps, I will give you some (Nếu bạn khơng có têm, tơi cho bạn vài con.) Các đại từ phiếm something, anything, someone, anyone, somebody, anybody, somewhere, anywhere… dùng tương tự cách dùng some any EX: There’s somebody at the front door (Có cửa trước.) Is there anybody here? (Có khơng?) Would you like something to drink? (Anh uống chút nhé?) I’m not thirsty I don’t want anything to drink (Tôi không khát Tôi khơng muốn uống cả.) Let’s go somewhere for dinner ~ Is there anywhere we can go? (Chúng ta ăn tối ~ Chúng ta đâu đây?) IV CÁCH SỬ DỤNG MUCH/ MANY Cách dùng 'much' 'many' tiếng Anh "Much" "many" dùng câu hỏi câu phủ định Với câu khẳng định, chúng thường kèm với "so", "as" "too" "Much" "many" hai từ nhiều người học tiếng Anh thường xuyên nhầm lẫn sử dụng Quy luật bạn cần nhớ "much" danh từ không đếm "many" danh từ đếm Danh từ không đếm (uncountable nouns) dạng số khơng thể sử dụng với số đếm, danh từ đếm (countable nouns) có dạng số số nhiều, dùng số đếm Ví dụ: "How much money you have?" (Anh có tiền?) 132 "How many friends you have?" (Anh có người bạn?) Một số người thắc mắc "money" (tiền) đếm được, lại dùng "much"? Thực tế, thứ thực đếm đồng tiền, hay loại tiền tệ "dollars", "pesos", "euros" Chúng ta khơng thể nói "I have 100 money", diễn đạt "I have 100 pesos" hay "How many dollars you have?" "Much" "many" thường dùng câu hỏi câu phủ định Chẳng hạn: "I don’t have many friends" (Tơi khơng có nhiều bạn) "How much money did you spend last night?" (Đêm qua anh tiêu hết tiền thế?) Đối với câu khẳng định, chúng dùng kèm từ "so", "as" "too" Ví dụ: "I have so much homework tonight!" (Tối có nhiều tập nhà quá!)
