“Doors, windows, shutters, building hardware and curtain walling”, the secretariat of which is held by AFNOR This European Standard shall be given the status of a national standard, either by publication of an identical text or by endorsement, at the latest by May 2009, and conflicting national standards shall be withdrawn at the latest by May 2009 This document supersedes CEN/TS 13126-11:2008 (E) Scope This part of EN 13126 specifies the requirements and test methods for durability, strength, security and function of top projecting reversible hardware for windows NOTE This European Standard is applicable to top projecting reversible hardware whether fitted with integral restrictors or not Normative references The following referenced documents are indispensable for the of this document, the terms and definitions given in EN 13126-1:2006 and EN 12519:2004 and the following apply NOTE The following terms and definitions apply to windows made of wood, PVC-u, aluminium or steel and their appropriate material combinations 3.1 pivot retainer device (may be integrated onto hinge arm system) fitted to the sash to hold it during rotation on hinge mechanism 3.2 integrated restrictor mechanism that is an integral part of the top projecting reversible hardware that limits the initial opening of the window and may or may not also hold an opening light firmly in the reverse position 3.3 top glider assembly consisting of plate and swivel bracket fitted to the sash, which guides movement in the vertical plane 3.4 top projecting reversible hinge mechanism consisting of sliding rails and moving arms fitted into the frame sides of the window, to support the sash allowing it to open outward, without projecting into the room, and be reversed for cleaning from the inside BS EN 13126-11:2008 EN 13126-11:2008 (E) 4.1 Classification General The classification for top projecting reversible hardware shall be in accordance with the requirements of Clause EN 13126-1:2006 4.2 Category of use (1 – first digit) No marking is required for the category of use in accordance with 4.2 of EN 13126-1:2006 4.3 Durability (2 – second digit) Grades shall be in accordance with 4.3 of EN 13126-1:2006 4.4 Mass (3 – third digit) Grades shall be in accordance with 4.4 of EN 13126-1:2006 4.5 Fire resistance (4 – fourth digit) One grade shall be identified in accordance with 4.5 of EN 13126-1:2006  4.6 grade 0: no requirements Safety in use (5 – fifth digit) One grade shall be identified in accordance with 4.6 of EN 13126-1:2006  4.7 grade 1: hardware shall conform to the requirements of EN 13126-1 and EN 13126-11 Corrosion resistance (6 – sixth digit) Grades shall be in accordance with 4.7 of EN 13126-1:2006 4.8 Security (7 – seventh digit) No marking is required for the category of security in accordance with 4.8 of EN 13126-1:2006 4.9 Application (8 – eighth digit) The eighth digit shows “11” indicating the part of the standard which was used for testing the top turn projecting reversible hardware in accordance with 4.9 of EN 13126-1:2006 4.10 Test sizes – Size limitations (9 – ninth digit) The ninth digit shows the test sizes in accordance with 4.10 of EN 13126-1:2006 as follows: S.R.W 2) in mm / S.R.H 3) in mm 2) S.R.W = sash rebate width 3) S.R.H = sash rebate height BS EN 13126-11:2008 EN 13126-11:2008 (E) EXAMPLE 500 S.R.W × 500 S.R.H The specified size is a test size only It does not relate to the maximum size to which a window may be fabricated For instances where the top projecting reversible hardware is available in a range of module sizes to suit differing window sizes it shall be tested at the size which gives the most severe impact on the hardware, as recommended by the hardware manufacturer This size is then recorded as the ninth digit 4.11 Example of classification for top projecting reversible hardware Table — Example of classification for top projecting reversible hardware - 060 - 11 500/1 500 This denotes Top Hung Projecting Reversible hardware, which has the following: Digit category of use - (no requirements); Digit durability grade (25 000 cycles); Digit mass 60 kg; Digit fire resistance grade (no requirements); Digit safety in use grade 1; Digit corrosion resistance grade 3; Digit security - (no requirements); Digit applicable part tested in accordance with Part 11 of this standard; Digit test sizes S.R.W 5.1 1) 2) = 500 mm, S.R.H = 500 mm Requirements General The requirements for top projecting reversible hardware shall be in accordance with Clause of EN 13126-1:2006 5.2 Integrated restrictors Where top projecting reversible hardware is fitted with an integrated restrictor the hardware shall be tested in accordance with CEN/TS 13126-5 5.3 Ease of sash movement test The test specified in 7.2 shall be used to determine the forces required to operate the hardware is appropriate for the intended use On completion of the ease of sash movement test in accordance with 7.2 BS EN 13126-11:2008 EN 13126-11:2008 (E)  Force required to initiate movement in either the opening or closing direction shall not have exceeded 100 N  Force required to sustain movement in either the opening or closing direction shall not have exceeded 100 N 5.4 Durability test The test specified in 7.3 shall be used to ensure the hardware is capable of continued operation after cycling in accordance with grades specified in 7.3, with regard given to normal maintenance On completion of the durability test in accordance with 7.3  5.5 Top projecting reversible hardware shall continue to function normally Static load test The test specified in 7.4 shall be used to ensure the mechanical strength of the hardware is appropriate for its intended use On completion of the static load test in accordance with 7.4  Top projecting reversible hardware shall continue to function normally  Measured clearance gap between sash and frame shall not have increased by more than mm from the measured clearance gap prior to the test commencing Test equipment The top projecting reversible hardware shall be installed in the test specimen for testing as in Clause of EN 13126-1:2006, and in accordance with the manufacturers fixing instructions NOTE The hardware manufacturer should provide test specimens for the testing institute A drawing of the profile cross-section with relevant information should be enclosed in the test application, which also contains the necessary hardware installation information for the windows The test shall be conducted on a test rig which corresponds in function and shape to the window for which the hardware was intended The hardware tested shall conform to the manufacturers’ recommendation for size and mass of the test specimen 7.1 Test methods Samples Three samples shall be tested in accordance with this European Standard sample A – performance tests; sample B – corrosion test; sample C – retained for reference control NOTE Sample B should only be necessary if no test report can be supplied by the manufacturer regarding the testing of the hardware component or set in accordance with EN 1670 BS EN 13126-11:2008 EN 13126-11:2008 (E) NOTE Sample C should be retained by the test institute for the duration of the validity of the test report NOTE All window fastening devices should not be engaged when measuring the clearance gap between sash and frame 7.2 Ease of sash movement test procedure All integrated or additional restrictors shall be disabled before any testing commences With the sash in the fully closed position record the amount of force in Newtons required to initiate movement of the sash Return the sash to the fully closed position and record the amount of force in Newtons required to sustain uniform movement of sash to between 200 mm and 300 mm from the closed position With the sash at an open position of between 200 mm and 300 mm from the closed position record the amount of force in Newtons required to initiate movement of the sash Return the sash to an open position of between 200 mm and 300 mm from the closed position and record the amount of force in Newtons required to sustain uniform movement of sash to the closed position The force shall be applied in the direction that would be used for the conventional opening and closing of the sash The hardware shall conform to the acceptance criteria of 8.4 of EN 13126-1:2006 and 5.3 of this European Standard 7.3 Durability test procedure All integrated or additional restrictors shall be disabled before any testing commences + 25 Cycle the window in accordance with one of the following grades at the rate of 250  grade 3: 10 000 cycles (+ %) cycles;  grade 4: 15 000 cycles (+ %) cycles;  grade 5: 25 000 cycles (+ %) cycles cycles/h The cycle test of the window is performed by repeating the following stages (see Figure A.1) Stage Cycle the sash from the fully closed position to an open position of between 25° and 40° for a total of 500 + % cycles Stage Cycle the sash from an open position of up to 25° through the maximum opening position and into a reverse position of a minimum of 155° for a total of 500 + % cycles in accordance with Clause of EN 13126-1:2006 NOTE All moving parts requiring lubrication may be lubricated unless the manufacturer has specified the hardware as maintenance free in accordance with hardware manufacturers’ instructions Return the window to the closed position The hardware shall conform to the acceptance criteria of 8.4 of EN 13126-1:2006 and 5.4 of this European Standard BS EN 13126-11:2008 EN 13126-11:2008 (E) 7.4 Static load test procedure Measure and record the clearance gap between the sash and frame at the bottom of the window Measurements shall be taken at two points; at each corner of the sash at no more than 50 mm from each side, and along the opening edge (see Figure A.2) Open the sash to 90° ± 2° Secure the top of the sash in this position preventing further sash movement (see Figure A.3)  + 25 Apply a vertical downward force of 500 N + 25 N in increments of 100 N N at the centre of +5 the bottom of the sash Maintain force of 500 N for 60 s s Return the window to the closed position Measure and record the clearance gap between the sash and the frame at the bottom of the window Measurements shall be taken at the same position as used prior to the test commencing The hardware shall conform to the acceptance criteria of 8.4 of EN 13126-1:2006 and 5.5 of this European Standard 7.5 Corrosion resistance NOTE A test should only be necessary if no test report can be supplied by the manufacturer in accordance with EN 1670 All corrosion tests shall be on original new samples For Zinc galvanized surfaces on iron or steel the specified thickness of 12 µ (class 3) or 16 µ (class 4) is not necessary if other surface protection methods are used to conform to the requirements (minimum time to formation of white corrosion products) of ISO 4520:1981 (µ = micrometre) Unless a test report can be provided by the manufacturer the hardware shall be tested in accordance with EN 1670 NOTE The evaluation of the corrosion resistance is limited to the essential areas (as a rule, the visible surfaces of the installed hardware) The following are exempt from the corrosion resistance evaluation:  rivet locations;  locations of later processing (for example: cleaved surfaces that result from cropping the hardware components, millings);  non surface-treated parts/surfaces, provided they are not in the visible vicinity of the hardware (for example: screw
