EN ISO 12100-1:2003 The machinery concerned and the extent to which hazards, hazardous situations and events are covered are indicated in the scope of this document When provisions of this type C standard are different from those which are stated in type A or B standards, the provisions of this type C standard take precedence over the provisions of the other standards for machines that have been designed and built according to the provisions of this type C standard In this standard it is assumed that:  only competent persons operate the machine;  components without specific requirements are: a) designed in accordance with good engineering practice and calculation codes, including all failure modes; b) of sound mechanical and electrical construction according to the state of the art; c) made of materials with adequate strength and of suitable quality; d) made of no harmful materials, such as asbestos;  components are kept in good repair and working order, so that the required characteristics remain despite wear;  installation allows for safe use of the machine;  negotiation occurs between the manufacturer and the user/purchaser concerning particular conditions of use and the places (e.g ground and local safety conditions) of use of the machinery NOTE ”Manufacturer” is to be understood within the European Union as intended in the Machinery Directive BS EN also applies for hand-held motor-operated concrete vibrators as defined in EN 60745-2-12:2003, but with the additional safety requirements for electronically controlled systems as defined in this standard (see 5.2.1.2) 1.2 This document does not deal with auxiliary equipment which provides the energy for internal and external vibrators, e.g air compressors, hydraulic power sources and voltage 12649:2008+A1:2011 (E) Terms and definitions For the purposes of this document, the definitions given in EN ISO 12100-1:2003 together with the following apply 3.1 concrete compactor machine which compacts concrete by transmitting vibration for the compaction process, the vibration is produced by internal and/or external vibrators NOTE Internal vibrators, external vibrators and vibrating beams are concrete compactors 3.2 internal vibrator equipment to produce mechanical vibrations, the vibrators powered by electrical, pneumatic or hydraulic energy transmit vibrations while immersed in the concrete in order to compact it NOTE Internal vibrators include eccentric weight, rotating mass and an internal power source transmitter to turn the eccentric weight shaft 3.3 external vibrator equipment to produce mechanical vibrations, it transmits the vibration to the form area and into the concrete in order to compact the concrete NOTE The external vibrators can be fixed on tables, grates, forms, plates or beams 3.4 vibrating beam equipment to produce mechanical vibrations, the frame is placed on the concrete and transmits the vibrations into the concrete NOTE The vibrating beams that are described in this standard include frames, vibrators and pull equipment for continuous working 3.5 smoothing machine motor-powered equipment with rotating tools in order to smooth the unhardened concrete, the machine is pedestrian-controlled or ride-on-operated NOTE Cabins are not included in the equipment of smoothing machines 3.6 portable smoothing machine motor-powered smaller equipment with rotating tools in order to smooth unhardened mortar especially on vertical surface, they are hand-held during operation 3.7 self-acting (robotic) smoothing machine smoothing machine that is adjusted for specific operation before starting to work, afterwards it operates automatically without control by a person List of significant hazards This clause contains all the significant hazards, hazardous situations and events, as far as they are dealt with in this standard, identified by risk assessment as significant for this type of machinery and which require action to eliminate electrical equipment;  flexible leads of H 07 RN-F or A 07 RN-F according to HD 22.4 S4:2004 or at least equivalent specification shall be used;  requirements to IP-type of electrical protection according to EN 60529:1991:  damage to electrical equipment dust/wetness   water jet protection IP X5 for vibrating box, boxes for switching on and off, insertion of leads; dust protection IP 5X 5.2.3.3 Thermal hazards Burns by possible contact with hot parts, combustion engine 4.4 Parts which are hot in operation shall be designed, constructed, positioned or provided with thermal guards to minimize the risk of contact with hot parts and/or surfaces, EN ISO 137321:2006 shall be considered for contact with hot surfaces 5.2.3.4 Hazards generated by noise Hearing loss 4.5 According to 5.1.1 circular protection device around the plate and the blades shall be installed This device shall be designed to enable the operator to see that the tool is working NOTE This condition is indispensable to enable work to be undertaken Fixed guards or covering shall be designed in accordance with EN 953:1997 considering the safety distances of !EN ISO 13857:2008" If the protection device or parts of it is constructed of bars (or tubes), there shall be a gap not exceeding 90 mm between them (see Figure B.1) The most external bars (or tubes) of the blade guard shall be able to withstand a horizontal force at any position of the bar equal to times of the weight of the machine (or at least with 80 kg if the machine weight is less than 40 kg) without permanent deformation 17 BS EN lowest bar with blades in the flat position when the machine is operating shall not exceed 60 mm (see Figure B.1), see also 7.1 At pedestrian-operated smoothing machines, the horizontal distance from the controls at the pole to the most outside part of the protection device shall not be less than 900 mm (see Figure B.2) Controlling or adjustment of the smoothing blades shall only be possible from the operator’s position during operation, either by two-hand controls according to EN 574:1996 for pedestrian-operated machines or when the operator is sitting on the seat for ride-on-operated machines Impact hazard  rotation of the pole after release by the operator 4.2.1 If the operator releases the pole unintentionally during operation of pedestrianoperated smoothing machines, the pole will immediately move turning around The pole shall stop automatically after release of the pole by the operator This shall be ensured by a hold-to-run control device The pole shall not turn more than 270° after unintentional release Electrically powered machines may turn more than 270° This can be accepted if the remaining turning energy does not exceed 25 Joule at the outside of the poleholding device The pole shall not turn during engine start Loss of stability  unintentional loosening of the pole-fixing to the machine The pole of pedestrian-operated smoothing machines and its fixing shall smoothing machine gets out of control of the driver Controls of ride-on machines shall have a neutral position All operating functions shall be automatically stopped with the control in neutral position  unintentional starting of smoothing tools at pedestrian-operated smoothing machines In case of loss of electrical energy supply, a restart of the smoothing tool shall only be possible after a reset control function The reset control system shall meet the requirements as defined in EN ISO 138491:2006  ride-on-operated smoothing machine moving in wrong directions The movement of controls to activate the movement of the machine shall correspond to the implemented movement of the machine  18 After releasing the operator's seat, the engine shall be automatically stopped, e.g by interruption of ignition
