Studying of Negative Effects of Cyberbullying to High School Students CHAPTER THREE: RESEARCH METHODOLOGY The purpose of this chapter includes the research methodology of studying the negative effects of cyberbullying to Nguyen Du high school students In particular, the author outlines of the research approach, the research strategy, the research method, the materials or data collection, the selection of the sample, the research process, and the type of data analysis 3.1 Subject of the study In the survey, one hundred random Nguyen Du high school students in Ho Chi Minh City participated in the investigation There were thirty males and seventy females who participated in the survey with simple questions The age of the participants was within the range from fifteen to eighteen years old The reason why the high school students were chosen was because they have had basic knowledge of cyberbullying, how it affected their overall health Moreover, they used to be a victim of cyberbullying in their lifetime so they could have some knowledge about cyberbullying From these points, when attending this investigation, they could give trustworthy answers in the questionnaire 3.2 Materials The study was conducted based on a quantitative approach In the quantitative approach, the researcher used a questionnaire created by Google Forms The questionnaire included eight questions There were two personal information questions and six open and close questions Two personal information questions are intended for collecting the age and gender of the survey participants Six research questions surveyed students' opinions about their understanding of cyberbullying and its effects on their health The question was divided into five multiple choice questions and three check box questions Five multiple choice questions classified their age, gender, severity of cyberbullying, and their experiences Three checkbox questions surveyed students' opinions about the definition, where five, and six were closed questions Question three, four, seven, and eight were open questions 3.3 Procedure The students’ cyberbullying survey that was created was distributed electronically via the “Nguyen Du confessions” website to high school students throughout Nguyen Du high school The survey took place for a week from April 12 , 2021 to April 18 , 2021 th th Firstly, the researcher created the bilingual questionnaire by Google Form that helps students to catch the main idea of the survey and give the best answers Second, the researcher gave students from Nguyen Du high school the questionnaire by uploading this form to the page “Nguyen Du confessions” on Facebook All of them were taught basic technology in the last semester Therefore, they could fill out Google Form to answer the questionnaire on Facebook after one week to analyze The participants were asked to honestly answer all the questionnaires by ticking the box in front of each option Moreover, in the closed-ended question, “others” categories included in case the options of respondents are not of any given answers that their responses will be more specific All the students were encouraged to be honest and careful before giving the answers to have trustworthy and reliable results However, after three days, the researcher received only twenty responses, therefore, another message was sent through the fan page "CLB Truyen Thong Nguyen Du" on Facebook to collect more responses On April 18 , 2021, th the last message was sent out and finally a sufficient number of responses had been received The questionnaire was collected after five minutes Most aspects of this topic were embraced thanks to the use of both opened and closed questions along with the quantitative analysis method 3.4 Data analysis To analyze, the researcher collected the data from the online questionnaire Next, those results were analyzed by Excel and displayed in different charts To analyze the qualitative portion of qualitative data, the findings will be compared to common themes found in cyberbullying literature Of particular interest will be an analysis of how consistent the research findings are with the body of research that is currently in existence After determining the research method, the data will be collected and displayed through charts and tables in the next chapter CHAPTER FOUR: FINDINGS In this chapter, the author presents the potential outcome and findings of the collected data The result of the data collection was illustrated through the pie charts, bar charts and a table The charts provide the percentages of responses given by Nguyen Du high school students Afterward, the findings are discussed, based on theoretical, and students’ viewpoints Quantitative analysis is based on closed-ended and open-ended in the student questionnaire In order to answer this question, the author had conducted a survey of one hundred fifteen students from Nguyen Du high school These students had received the link of the form through fan pages “CLB Truyen Thong Nguyen Du” and “Nguyen Du Confession” and were asked to fill in the questionnaire in under ten minutes The results from the first and second questions with the participation of one hundred fifteen students who were studying at Nguyen Du High School suggested that there were eighty female students accounting for 69,6% and thirty-five male students accounting for 30,4% Moreover, their fluctuating age range is from fifteen to eighteen years old In this range, both fifteen and sixteen years old are responsible for twenty-seven students (at 25%) while the ages of seventeen to eighteen account for more than half of the students participating Nguyễn Phạm Trúc Phương – 18DH712239 10
