Calvin Wilson nd Grade Sacred Heart Catholic School • Graduated from Sam Houston State University • 1st year at Sacred Heart, extremely excited to be here! • No kids, but have an adorable dog names Chicka • Sacraments of Reconciliation and First Holy Communion (more info to follow) • Chromebooks used in centers • STEM activities and projects Sacred Heart Catholic School staff and students work to… ✓ BE Respectful ✓ BE Responsible ✓ BE Safe & ✓ BE Christ-like in all that we Parents are encouraged to visit the ParentWeb in RenWeb to keep track of behavior and grades Lunch Policy • Lunch policy- Lunch may not be dropped off to your child If your child forgets their lunch, they will be given a light lunch from the office Uniforms • Please see parent handbook for uniform polices • Boys – must wear belt every day • Socks – Boys: white crew sock (not ankle or no show) with shorts and black socks with pants – Girls must wear navy cable knee socks on Mass days Non-mass day’s girls may wear navy bobby socks and PK-3rd may wear navy bobby socks or white plaid ruffle socks “No show” socks are not acceptable • Shoes Uniforms continued – Regular uniform - Matching pairs of athletic (rubber-sole) shoes for boys and girls may have the upper part of tennis shoes in solid black, grey, navy or white with a white sole *Neon colors are unacceptable on the shoe or the shoelaces – Mass day: • Girls : Navy cable knee socks and closed toe “Sunday” shoes (no Sperry’s or tennis shoes) are allowed to be worn for Mass Ex Mary Jane’s may be worn every day of the week, but school appropriate tennis shoes are always required for PE (bring on Friday because we have PE) • Boys: “Sunday” closed toe shoes in navy, black or natural/brown in color with navy or black crew socks Boys may wear Sperry’s to Mass No tennis shoes may be worn for Mass (crew socks are socks that are above the ankle.) Tardy Policy: p.13 in Parent Handbook • • • • TARDY A student is tardy if he/she arrives after the 8:00 a.m bell rings OR when carline is over in the afternoon A student who is late in the morning is required to report to the front office for a tardy slip before being admitted to class A student who is not picked up on time in the afternoon will receive a tardy Habitual tardiness is disruptive and seriously affects a student's school performance Tardies are recorded for each grading period on report cards After the 5th tardy per trimester, a student will serve an hour detention after school on the day of the 6th tardy recorded and each tardy following that for the trimester A fee of $15.00 PER CHILD/PER DETENTION will be included in the family monthly tuition payment The fee is to pay an employee to man after school detention If necessary, parents will be contacted to discuss habitual tardiness and students may be subject to dismissal from school If a student misses two to four hours of a school day, he/she will be marked ½ day absent Perfect Attendance Award is given at the end of the year to students who have not been absent the entire school year Five (5) tardies is equal to one (1) day absent • • • • • • • • Take Home Binder – If there is a note from the teacher, please sign Remind (please sign up) Weekly Newsletters Wednesday Folder – Graded Work (sign and return) Grades – posted on Renweb Progress Reports (sent electronically) We follow trimesters for grades (3 in the year) Parent/Teacher Conferences –1st and 2nd *Mandatory ** Comes home nightly • Holds monthly calendar and orange folder (can be used for homework or other papers) • Study Guide Sheets • Notes to and from school • Math homework (will be given during the week) •Super Improvers (in class behavior) •Kindness Jar •Note written in calendar sheet if needed (Please sign) •Refocus Form (next slide) Refocus Form If needed, a refocus form will be sent home *Please sign the form and return the form to school 1st Refocus Form: Communication with parents in a form, note or phone call 5-10 minutes away from a desired activity 2nd Refocus Form – Communication with parents in a form, note or phone call and consequence given by teacher 3rd Refocus FormCommunication with parents in a form, note or phone call and consequence given by Administration *4 Refocus Forms (within a Trimester) =1 Principal Form •Sent home in Wednesday Folder and posted in Renweb •Core Subjects: Religion, Math, Reading, English, and Spelling •Grading scale: 100-93 = A , 92 – 86 = B, 85 – 78 = C, and 77 – 70 = D, and below 70 is an F •May also be marked …… *check or check plus (guided instruction / whole group) • Not all papers are graded but are used to drive instruction • Monday – Thursdays ….Math and Read Every Night (study sight words as well) • From handbook: Grades K – 1st 15 - 30 minutes of homework a night •Read at least 15 minutes each night (Just Right Books, Library books, and guiding reading books) •Complete Math Homework (reinforce what we are covering in class) • Studying for tests (reviews will be sent home) • If homework is repeatedly not completed a conference may be requested • Mrs Gonzalez will teach ELA to both classes • Daily Five • Read to Self • Buddy Read • Word Work • Work on Writing • Listening to Reading • Leveled Readers online • Spelling is tied to Wilson Phonics Program • Increasing fluency and text complexity • DRA *Guided Reading Sept., Jan., May • PAPI- Phonological Awareness •Benchmarks throughout the year (Math and Reading) •ITBS/COGAT (IOWA) –April 2021 •Testing results will be discussed during conferences Mr Wilson will teach Math to both classes • Guided Math (centers) • Hands-on learning • Fast Fact Flashcards •Xtramath & Front Row •Creating Critical Thinkers Through Problem Solving •Prayers – Angelus, Hail Mary, Lord’s Prayer, Glory Be, and Act of Contrition •Stations of the Cross (during Lent) •First Reconciliation and First Communion in the spring •Please make sure you purchase a Catholic Children's Bible from St Mary’s Press Bible Students will use this Bible through 8th grade This was not included if you ordered supplies from EPI We will send an email if your child does not have one • Mr Wilson will teach Social Studies to both classes • Hands on learning through experiments and play • Generally no homework other than studying for a unit test •At this time Birthday Treats/Snacks will not be allowed at school We will celebrate your child in class!
