(Hà Thị Lan Anh) Time management in the workplace is a skill that can benefit any employee By learning how to manage your time, you can improve your work life, increase your productivity, lower your stress and build a positive work-life balance In this article, we define what time management is and explore the different benefits it offers  Decreased stress Making and following a task schedule reduces anxiety As you check off items on your “to-do” list, you can see that you are making tangible progress This helps you avoid feeling stressed out with worry about whether you’re getting things done  More time and more energy for free time Good time management gives you extra time to spend in your daily life People who can time-manage effectively enjoy having more time to spend on hobbies or other personal pursuits Effective time management strategies let you know when a task will be completed, reducing the amount of energy you might spend worrying whether you can finish all of your work for the day Instead, you can plan time for a break from your usual routine Because time management allows you to plan when your work will be finished before you start it, you can save energy for your free time  More opportunities Managing time well leads to more opportunities and less time wasted on trivial activities Good time management skills are key qualities that employers look for The ability to prioritize and schedule work is extremely desirable for any organization  Ability to realize goals Individuals who practice good time management are able to better achieve goals and objectives, and so in a shorter length of time  More confidence Practicing time management can boost your confidence through positive selfreinforcement When you complete a schedule of tasks or a small list of goals every day, you can feel satisfied by accomplishing tasks and become more confident in your working abilities When work is going well, you can feel more fulfilled by the work you complete because doing each task feels like accomplishing a goal  Better workplace relationship Time management can help you build workplace relationships If you manage your time well, others will know they can rely on you and might even develop their own time management skills If everyone in an office practices time management and maintains effective communication, there will likely be fewer opportunities for workplace conflicts  In addtion, good time management also has other benefits such as: improved focus; streamlined decision-making; improved quality of work;… Effects of Poor Time Management (Phạm Thu Hằng) From the part 2, we can see that good time management skills can bring a lot of positive outcomes In contrast, poor time management can have adverse effects on individuals and their organizations In this part, I will focus on its impacts on work/study performance, health and relationships * Effects of Poor Time Management on Work/Study Performance ● Missed deadlines: - Delays in deadlines might result from poor time management For beginners, they could find it difficult to recall upcoming deadlines or their respective due dates Deadlines that are missed may also result from not knowing what to prioritize - Over time, missing deadlines or running late to meetings leads one to be labeled unreliable and ineffective at study and work ● Disappointing Performance - The work will always be rushed, of little value, and of bad quality if one constantly misses deadlines or works hastily to fulfill them Always missing deadlines means having a large backlog of work waiting for them As a result, their workflow is slowed down, which reduces productivity - Many studies have shown that those who manage their time effectively are more successful and productive than those who not People with bad time management habits frequently neglect their duties and fail to take care of themselves, which negatively impacts their productivity at work and in their business * Effects of Poor Time Management on Health ● Stress and Anxiety One may feel nervous due to impending deadlines and unfulfilled work targets As the pressure keeps on increasing, it causes additional suffering and unfavorable outcomes Depression may result from this unhappiness and imbalance in your life, especially if one believes they never have enough time off to relax or decompress ● Lack of sleep - An adult needs 7-9 hours of sleep per night on average However, many people receive less, often much less The primary cause of this issue is poor time management When there are so many outside distractions and so much on their plate, it is quite difficult for them to get enough sleep - A report suggests that sleep deprivation could be just as severe as alcohol impairment and may also lead to other health issues * Effects of Poor Time Management on Relationships ● Unsatisfied family life - When one is behind at work, stressed out, and tired, it can greatly affect their relationships at home Many people work long hours so they not even go home and deal with issues at home They choose work instead of spending quality time with their loved ones They don't engage in family activities or are constantly late, forget important dates, and have no time for hobbies, conversations, or time together ● Problematic Social Relationship - In relationships with co-workers: The entire group may suffer if something is not completed on time The delay of one individual may cause the delay of another, and so on Knock-ons will put strain on relationships within the team, making it even more difficult to complete tasks Negative behavior can also result from stress and tension, and this swiftly spreads to other people - In other relationships: It is simple to lose touch with people around when one has a busy schedule In other words, they allow the routine activities of life to dominate their attention and effort Many people are too busy trying to complete everything on their todo list to spend time to strengthen and widen their network How to manage time effectively ?
