Since its installation in 1960, the Walk of Fame has been a superior asset to the community, perpetuating the aura that has made the name Hollywood synonymous with glamour. The Walk of Fame remains one of the city’s most widely-seen tourist venues and the number one attraction in Hollywood. More than two thousand stars, totaling five acres of coral terrazzo and brass, line the sidewalks on both sides of Hollywood Boulevard, from Gower to La Brea, and Vine Street. Stars inducted in 2006 included: Queen Latifah, Matthew Broderick, Nathan Lane, Motley Crue, Robert Osborne, Mark & Kim, Judge Judy Sheindlin, Destiny’s Child, George Lopez, Lou Adler, Winnie The Pooh, Vanna White, Dan Avey, Jim Hill, Nancy Sinatra, Wink Martindale, David Milch, Stella Adler, Leonard Goldenson, Milt and Bill Larsen, Amy Grant, Bob Miller, Ruta Lee, Bruce Willis, Tim McGraw, Jerry Buss, and Annette Bening. New stars continue to be dedicated at the rate of about two each month, with ceremonies drawing crowds of admiring fans to share the moments with their favorite stars. Presiding over the ceremonies is Hollywood’s celebrity mayor Johnny Grant. Walk of Fame ceremonies, administered by the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce, attract international television coverage and are responsible for bringing millions of tourists to Tinseltown annually to see its world-famous Walk. Can anyone imagine what Hollywood would be like without the Walk of Fame?
