HCS Curriculum: Arts, Visual 6 - 12 Sculpture (High School) Page 1 of 11 Hoover City Schools Secondary Curriculum Arts, 2007-08 Course Information: Course Title: Sculpture Grade Level: 9 – 12 Course Description: This class is designed to expose the student to various processes, techniques and methods related to sculpture. The student will not only explore art history as it relates to sculpture but will become familiar with the tools and techniques needed for individual production. All students will have the opportunity to work with clay, concrete, metal, plaster etc. Each student will be engaged in projects using traditional construction methods in the field of sculpture with an emphasis on elements and principles of design. Students will be exposed to Lecture, individual and small group projects. Mas 10 NA Unit 3- Studio Unit Goal: The student will learn the difference between realism and non- objective art through the observation of nature while at the same time discover the medium of clay and how to use it. Mas 3 6 NA 2 use the kneading or wedging techniques to prepare the clay. Mas 3 6 NA 3 write about a work in terms of its proportion and scale. Mas 7 NA Unit 6- Studio Unit Goal: The student will create a self-portrait bust. Mas 1-4 NA 2 demonstrate an ability to use clay within its various drying stages and with various methods of carving and adding Mas 1 3 NA Unit 7- Casting Unit Goal: The student will understand the casting process of materials such as concrete, plaster and bronze.
