hands However, the tension of the story escalates, because Grendel's mother is now on the warpath to get revenge As the story progresses, Beowulf kills Grendel's mother in her liar with a sword that giants of a past time once used After this victory, Beowulf returns home to Geats Fifty years pass However, there is one final battle There is a dragon that plagues his people because of stolen treasure More importantly, Beowulf now has to defend his people He fails at first, but then with the help of Wiglaf, a servant, chases the dragon into its lair and kills it However, in the process, Beowulf receives a fatal wound and dies Finally, he is buried by the sea Hamlet The play begins with the recent death of King Hamlet, who was Prince Hamlet's father Following his death, the king's brother Claudius, who was the uncle of the young prince, was crowned the King of Denmark After assuming position as the new king, Claudius married Queen Gertrude, Prince Hamlet's mother The young prince is outraged by the actions of Claudius and vows revenge Not long after the death of his father and marriage of his mother and uncle, the ghost of King Hamlet appears to the prince Previously, others in the kingdom believed that the king died because of a snake bite, but the ghost reveals that the king was murdered by Claudius Hamlet then puts on a play for Claudius that reenacts the death of the king The play concludes with Gertrude drinking from a poisoned cup, Hamlet stabbing Claudius and Hamlet being stabbed by a poisoned blade Robinson Crusoe Robinson Crusoe was shipwrecked after a severe storm He was the only survivor, and he immediately began to build a shelter and search for food for survival He tried to salvage as much as possible from the shipwrecked ship and save things that he thought was useful He began to write in a journal so that he would be able to remember what happened to him while he was on the island He learned many useful skills, including fishing and farming During his time on the island, Crusoe began to talk to God and reevaluate his religious beliefs After 15 years on the island, Crusoe discovered footprints in the sand but no signs of people Years later, he spotted cannibals on the island He spotted them again sometime later and noticed a victim escaping Crusoe presumed the victim had managed to survive a shipwreck he spotted earlier in the year Crusoe saved him, named him Friday and taught him how to speak English Crusoe and Friday were eventually rescued from the island after they helped the captain of the ship escape a mutiny Once in England, Crusoe discovered that he was wealthy He married and had three children, but Crusoe still wanted to continue his adventures Happy Prince The prince in the story is no living prince He is the statue of a dead prince decorated with gold leaves and precious stones He is known as the Happy Prince because there is a smile on his lips But the smile gradually gives way to tears The Happy Prince cannot help crying over the scenes of misery in the houses of the poor He decides to help them with his gold leaves and costly stones The little swallow acts as his messenger, and he gives away all his wealth The Swallow was on his way back to his homeland when the prince had detained him to help the poor He still wished to go back but now it was too late The intense cold killed him Thus the little swallow lost his life in helping the poor His death broke the prince’s heart So the swallow and the prince perished for a noble cause But their death was not the end It made them immortal That describes the soothing effects of the sights of nature In his view, nature gives the relief to the poet when he is in grief Once the poet was wandering lonely like a cloud Suddenly he saw a large number of flowers named daffodils growing on the bank of the lake under a tree The flowers were waving in the cool breeze The flowers seemed to be dancing happily The beauty of daffodils was more charming than the waves in the lake The poet was very much delighted to see this beautiful sight When the poet reached home, he often remembered the sight of daffodils Their sight left soothing effects on the poet He felt great pleasure and joy to remind the sight of daffodils Gulliver’s travels In Gulliver’s Travels, Gulliver describes his four voyages Gulliver first travels to the island of tiny men called Lilliputians He is accused of treason and sentenced to death after putting out a fire with his urine, but escapes before having to face his punishment Two months later, Gulliver embarks on a second voyage This time he travels to the land of the gigantic Brobdingnagians, where he is exhibited like a freak and made to fight animals An eagle drops him into the sea where he is picked up by a British ship and returned to England On his third voyage, Gulliver visits a series of islands devoted to abstract things like mathematics, abstract ideas, and magic On his fourth voyage, he visits the land of the Houyhnhnms, who enslave the repulsive human-like Yahoos He is expelled after the Houyhnhnms deem they cannot have a partly-rational Yahoo like Gulliver He makes a boat and is picked up by a Portuguese ship On his return to England, Gulliver is so disgusted with human beings that he refuses to associate with them, preferring the company of horses
