get to know the topic of “ Further education” - understand and utilize topic-related vocabulary in meaningful contexts Skill: - listen for main idea - read for specific information - speak about plan Attitude: - be aware of the further education Orientation for competency development: - General competencies: language ability, communication, cooperation, and learner autonomy - Specific competencies: learning about the further education II MATERIALS - Grade 11 textbook, Unit 7, Getting started - Computer connected to the internet - Projector/ TV/ pictures and cards - PowerPoint III PROCEDURES: Activity 1: Warm-up (3ms) a/ Aims: - To create an active atmosphere in the classroom - To activate Sts’ information on further education - To lead students into the topic of the lesson b/ Content: - Name of the type of general education c/ Outcome: - Students are able to know some information related to the further education d/ Organization: Step 1: - T asks Sts to look at the screen and match - T shows four pictures and five options + Four pictures + Five options: Upper secondary school Lower secondary school Kindergarten Primary school University Step 2: - Sts the task as instructed Step 3: - T checks and give comments - Suggested answer: + Kindergarten + Primary school + Lower secondary school + Upper secondary school Step 4: - T asks students question: “ What are you going to after leaving upper secondary school?” - From the students' answers, teacher summarizes and gives two other educational paths “ Further education and Higher education” - T says “Do you know what further education and higher education are?” + Further education is for people after leaving school It can be academic or vocational + Higher education is education and training at colleges and universities leading to different types of degrees - T leads into the lesson by telling students: “ In our lesson today, we’re going to explore some information about further education.” Activity 2: Knowledge formation ( 15 ms) a/ Aims: Students can gain some vocabulary and information related to the topic “Further Education” b/ Contents: - Teacher has students listen and repeat the vocabulary - Teacher checks the pronunciation Step 2: (3ms) Task 1: - T asks Ss look at task on page 19 - T asks Ss questions for Ss to engage with the topic Suggested question: "Can you guess what the conversation talks about?" - > “ After listening, we will know what the conversation is about” - Students are required to listen and read silently the conversation Step 3: (1m) - Students guess the topic of the conversation Step 4: (1m) - Teacher gives feedback Activity 3: Practice (15 ms) a./ Aims: Students get some vocabulary, general and specific information about the conversation with the title “Further Education” b./ Content: - Complete each sentences with no more than three words (Task - English 11 - page 19) - Read the conversation again and answer the questions (Task - English 11 - page 19) c./ Outcomes: - Students are able to apply the technique of “SCANNING” to look for specific details in a reading text - Students are able to grasp detailed information d/ Organizations: Step 1: (4ms) - Teacher asks the student to turn to task - Teacher will model the first sentence - Students are asked to work in pairs in 3ms to complete each sentences.(task 2-page 19) - Teacher asks students to read the questions and underline the keywords in each of them individually (task 3- page 19) Step 2: (8ms) - T asks Ss to work individually to read the questions and underline the key words in 2ms, then share their ideas with a partner who sits next to them (task 3) - T divides Ss in class into groups of (task 3) - T asks Ss to scan then conversation and locate the keywords to find the answer for each question with their group in 5ms Step 3: (2ms) - Ss present the answers as required (task 2) -
