strengthening the quality of English training services, all employees strive to enhance the best service quality for clients customer 11 Luan van CHAPTER 2: INTRODUCTION ABOUT INTERNSHIP PROCESS IN OCEAN EDU INTERNATIONAL ENGLISH CENTER 2.1 The tasks in the internship process I work as a teaching assistant at the Ocean Edu International English center I accepted the position of teaching assistant for classes TRD_TEENS20_1B and TRD_TEENS22_2A Both classes are part of the Focus English program, which is designed for students aged 11 to 16 Focus English is a curriculum that adheres to the European standard training structure, with levels divided into 12 discrete levels in ascending order This is a rigorous learning curriculum that teaches pupils the four abilities of hearing, speaking, reading, and writing, as well as grammar, vocabulary, and pronunciation Each course's lesson plan is meticulously planned Through a range of interesting and enriching classroom activities, students will acquire new vocabulary, perfect pronunciation, and have several opportunities to strengthen their listening and speaking skills More significantly, the study program provides students with a defined direction in their English learning route in order to reach the 6.0 IELTS target My first week of internship at Ocean Edu was spent learning about the company's policies and procedures In addition, I attended the center's English courses to study, become acquainted with the activities, working, and interpreting of a teaching assistant in a class furthermore, I was familiar with a variety of duties at the training board's office, such as how to prepare instructional plans, how to find materials, and so on During the remaining weeks, I officially worked as a teaching assistant, doing the following tasks: 2.1.1 Prepare documents and Powerpoint in accordance with the main teacher's lesson plan The main teacher will provide me the lesson plan as well as the materials to be printed a few days before each class Following that, I will write a teaching script, develop Powerpoint, and compile a range of materials and outlines to help students 12 Luan van understand and absorb the lectures Furthermore, I am allowed to provide my suggestions to make the lecture more vibrant and appealing 2.1.2 Interpret Because all of the teachers at Ocean Edu are from other countries, I will be in charge of interpreting between teachers and students 2.1.3 Correcting assignment and addressing students' queries After each lecture, the teacher will frequently give homework to pupils in order for them to practice their new information It is certain that it will cause some difficulties for students At this point, I will responsible for monitoring each student's learning condition and issuing directions This job may be accomplished through online contact, notably the Zalo application, where students can raise questions and concerns and I can gladly respond At the start of the following session, the teacher and I will continue to check and correct the pupils' homework 2.1.4 Daily report After one day of work, I am required to create our own report utilizing the company's Google Drive sheet This application will allow managers to swiftly trac k individual workers' daily activity In addition, I must report the class size, the number of kids who attend school each day, the number of students who are missing, and the learning situation of each student 2.2 The Difficulties and experiences in internship process in Training Department of Ocean Edu 2.2.1 The difficulties During my internship at Ocean Edu, I encountered some difficulties in the course of my work The first one is the experience in classroom management I was tasked with being the teaching assistant for two classes, TRD_TEENS20_1B and TRD_TEENS22_2A When working with young children, the personalities of the pupils are sometimes quite lively, making it difficult to govern the class Furthermore, 13 Luan van because I am a timid person, keeping the class vibrant and exciting was a problem for me in my early days as a teaching assistant, but I handled it admirably The second issue is one of listening and speaking abilities My public speaking skills have had a significant impact on my teaching career Because a class includes around 18 - 20 students, but I am a new teaching assistant, I not have much experience in class, which causes pressure and psychological discomfort, so I could not talk smoothly at first Furthermore, while I have a vast vocabulary, my reflexes are weak, so I am sometimes perplexed while interpreting students' inquiries to foreign language teachers and vice versa Additionally, it required some time to adjust owing to not being accustomed to the accents of Australian, British, and American native speakers, as well as not being comfortable with the speaking tempo of native speakers The final issue to emphasize is the heavy workload I spend most of my time in front of the computer preparing, correcting, and answering questions regarding classwork for each student, so I work over hours a day 2.2.2 The Experiences However, throughout the internship, I also learned numerous essential lessons and gained diverse experiences for myself that aided me in my professional growth: - Interning at Ocean Edu International English Center has provided me the chance to work in a fast-paced workplace with a kind and professional team of teachers and employees - The internship let me see my own weaknesses, the challenges, and the restrictions that I still face, and clearly identify what I require, what is suitable for me, and what needs to be nurtured and improved - I am a quiet person, but obtaining enthusiastic and helpful assistance from instructors as well as coworkers has made me more confident in completing assignments and calmer in dealing with difficulties that I not want to deal with - Throughout the internship, I had several chances to meet and converse with native teachers, which helped me develop my reflexes and English speaking abilities 14 Luan van - Learn a lot of professional knowledge and how to successfully apply what I have studied at university - I have gotten better at presenting in front of large crowds and communicating my point of view Now I can simply interpret for native teachers as well as pupils - Now I know how to organize my classes well, I am more creative and energetic Furthermore, I have developed a strong relationship with the individuals around me - I've learned to better manage my time It has allowed me to concentrate better and be more productive I am especially mindful of how to keep a feeling of balance in my daily life and reduce work stress - Being able to work in an orderly manner allows me to be more conscious of how I dress and behave at work - Working as a teaching assistant has also helped me develop my office information technology abilities 15 Luan van CHAPTER 3: THE REALITY OF THE USE OF ENGLISH IN OCEAN EDU 3.1 The use of English at work Ocean Edu is an English facility for people who desire to improve their English communication skills and prepare for English-related certifications As a result, English is a vital component of Ocean Edu During my internship at Ocean Edu, I discovered that not all departments had the same level of English proficiency English is the most commonly used language in the training department Teachers and students routinely converse in English in the classroom, and English is used in all teaching and learning activities Because Ocean Edu employs only international teachers, including native teachers (from the United Kingdom, the United States, Australia, and New Zealand) and Asian teachers (from the Philippines) All teachers have a university degree or higher; extensive pedagogical skills and longterm teaching experience; and international teaching English certificates TESOL and CELTA Furthermore, the teaching assistants are English majors at institutions Not just in class, but also at the office, I and my colleagues are in charge of doing English related work such as document preparation, lesson planning, Powerpoint, and so on All other departments' members understand English well, but their usage of English for daily contact is still restricted Most of them can only read and comprehend specialist English and are unable to converse or write effectively They introduce customers to English classes, especially in the sales department, but their English abilities are still limited I think that the marketing, sales, and customer service departments should have a basic understanding of English communication skills in order to advise consumers on courses and help them better understand the benefits of studying English Furthermore, owing to the infrequent English communication environment, employees choose to speak Vietnamese when working and transferring information in departments such as accounting and human resources 3.2 Some solutions to improve the use of English in Ocean Edu  Ocean Edu should arrange weekly English training sessions for all staff, particularly new hires Furthermore, schedule discussions and meetings between experienced corporate employees and new employees to exchange and gain 16 Luan van experiences to enhance English abilities as well as find weaknesses to improve their English skills  Bonuses and special wages for staff are another technique for encouraging the use of English Staff who can utilize English proficiently, in particular, will be awarded monthly, quarterly, and yearly, with allowances based on the students' foreign language competency This helps to build incentives for everyone to work together to their maximum capacity  Every employee, not only those in the training department, but all departments in Ocean Edu, must have a stronger feeling of self-improvement in terms of language skills, particularly speaking abilities, and be continually learning from experience and growing themselves I will propose the following strategies to improve each employee's English speaking skills: - Learn sentences rather than single words One reason for not translating is that a lack of vocabulary leads to misunderstanding while conversing in Vietnamese Vocabulary development is critical in listening and translation When you learn a new term, attempt to use it in a sentence To practice and memorize, repeat each sentence ten times If you practice this with each new English word you learn, you will be able to speak English more naturally - Practice thinking in English rather than Vietnamese Thinking to the act of releasing human speech results in the formation of communicative reflexes As a result, you can practice thinking in English rather than Vietnamese to develop faster reflexes You may practice speaking English online at any time and from any location Try to think of anything in English, from simple to complex - Practice speaking the language in front of a mirror When you have some free time, you can talk to yourself for roughly 2-3 minutes about known things Sharing information about family, hobbies, and friends, for example By reflecting, you may enhance your voice, emotions, and body language Knowing what your image would seem like in the eyes of the opposing person will 17 Luan van allow you to change properly When practicing English using a mirror, remember to say each phrase loudly, carefully, and clearly At the same time, pay attention to intonation and appropriately pause up and down If you find yourself suddenly speaking without words or sentence structure, consider how to switch to another mode of communication - Regularly practice listening to English The only way to become used to a typical English accent is to listen a lot There are numerous listening objectives, such as hearing to become acquainted with intonation, hearing to learn pronunciation, and hearing to gain information There are several techniques to practice listening For example, you may watch movies, listen to the news, or use English listening practice applications You may open YouTube and listen to some of your favorite channels while cooking, cleaning to get acclimated to how native people pronounce English - Record your English speech and listen to it afterward Record your English speaking and listen to it again to enhance your standard English accent You will notice plenty of common faults at that time, such as swallowing sounds, forgetting the last consonant, wrong emphasis, stuttering, speaking too rapidly, and so on Make it a habit to it every night before you go to bed Sleep, then choose a 2-minute book or article snippet to record and listen to again to compare daily development  Finally, for those of you who work as English teaching assistants like myself, in addition to developing your speaking skills, you should also focus on enhancing your interpreting skills for foreign teachers in the following ways: - Build your vocabulary: During the teaching process, the teaching assistant must swiftly transform the speech into the target language You will not have time to open the dictionary, go through it to find the definition, and then use the appropriate word As a result, it is practically vital to build your vocabulary in both the source and target languages with the proper meaning 18 Luan van - Watch videos: View videos on the topics you need to comprehend and grasp the best aspects of the speakers, such as body language and linguistic abilities After watching the films, think about what you appreciate best about them and how you would carry out the assignment if you were required to interpret it Record your interpreting sessions in brief bursts and listen to them attentively to verify for accuracy and any needed changes - Note-taking: During the interpreting task, you must follow the speeches of a native teacher and properly interpret them as soon as possible Rather than summarizing the words provided, you must present everything in detail with no alterations All of this causes tension, especially if you're a newbie who doesn't know how to quickly recall speech, therefore taking notes is a useful exercise - Practice daily: Make time every day to practice translation Because no one is a flawless translation, all interpreters must devote time to practice in order to develop Keep note of your errors and learn from them so that you don't make the same ones again Try back-translation or translating materials from one language to another If you're used to translating English into another language, try it the other way around Back translation can help you learn the other language more effectively and fluently - Talk with other interpreters Communicate with other interpreters or native speakers of the language you are translating Ask them for tips on how you can improve your interpreter skills and ask them to review your work for mistakes so that you can learn how to improve yo ur interpretation skills 19 Luan van CHAPTER 4: SUGGESTIONS FOR THE SUBJECT OF GRADUATION THESIS Topic: A study on difficulties in interpreting practice of students at the Thuong Mai University During my internship at Ocean Edu English Center, I saw that several teaching assistants still struggled to translate for international students and teachers They experience obstacles in the interpreting process, such as inappropriate translation and a lack of relevant terminology Despite the fact that interpreting is taught at all institutions with English degrees, students are still perplexed when it comes to interpreting in real life To clarify this point, I'd like to suggest "A study on difficulties in interpreting practice of students at the Thuong Mai University" as the topic for my graduation thesis On that premise, I want to clearly identify the problems that students frequently experience while practicing interpreting and provide viable methods to assist them in overcoming those mistakes 20 Luan van CONCLUSION English is an international language that is becoming increasingly popular across the world, thus the demand to acquire it to satisfy the needs of society and employment is rising The Ocean Edu Center is one of several English Training Centers that have been developed with the objective of developing and upgrading students' abilities Ocean Edu is increasingly expressing its place in the sector of English training after 14 years of development and formation, garnering customers' trust by consistently enhancing service and training quality I gained a lot of vital lessons during my month-long internship at the center With my prior knowledge and actual experience gathered during a month internship at Ocean Edu, I create this report to highlight some of the company's challenges And I hope that it will help to its growth in the future Once again, I am grateful for the enthusiastic advice of Ocean Edu’s members as well as English department professors, who have actively assisted me in preparing my internship report Ha Noi, January 21,
