Assessment task produced by Patrick McDonnell (Julia Creek SS), Ian Persini (Dajarra State School), Kristy Walton (Karumba State School) and Cindy Wooldridge (Mount Isa Special School) Ant Antics Task Outline Picnics are fun activities to have with your family and friends But sometimes we may have little uninvited guests, like ants As you know ants like to eat the same kinds of food as us We need to show that we know how ants behave and think about ways to stop them spoiling our picnic This term we will be doing lots of fun work Timeline Week and Review with teacher about what you know about ants Week and Part B Complete Week and Part A Complete Week and Part C Complete Picnic Part A You will work individually to design a deterrent method for your picnic Make sure that you consider the picnic environment, the types of food to be served and what “deterrents” will keep the ants away You will need to; • Label your A4 design • Colour A4 design • Explain A4 design Once you have shown your design to your teachers you will receive feedback from your classmates You will revisit your design to make any necessary modifications until you have your final design Part B Write and create an initiation inviting members of your family, friends and the community to the picnic In your invitation you must request the following; Assessment task produced by Patrick McDonnell (Julia Creek SS), Ian Persini (Dajarra State School), Kristy Walton (Karumba State School) and Cindy Wooldridge (Mount Isa Special School) Part C On the day of the picnic you will have to welcome your guests and introduce yourself to others When requested you will be required to present your design personally to each of the invited guests, one at a time using your best manners, demonstrating whole body listening skills You will fully explain your design highlighting your deterrent methods and how it works You will present another students diagram to the audience and clearly explain what the diagram is trying to show The work you in this unit will let us see well you; Know Can • Appropriate deterrents • Analyse to stop ants from • Design spoiling your picnic • Make • Features of an invitation • Appraise • Lifecycle of ants • Communicate • How ants interact with humans in different environments TASK A -
