involves students in a wide range of experiences, which often benefit others and the community, while also advancing the goals of a given curriculum Community-based service activities are paired with structured preparation and student reflection What is unique about service learning is that it offers direct application of theoretical models Proponents of academic service learning feel that the real-world application of classroom knowledge in a community setting allows students to synthesize course material in more meaningful ways Common goals achieved by service learning include: gaining a deeper understanding of the course/curricular content, a broader appreciation of the discipline and an enhanced sense of civic responsibility ACKNOWLEDGEMENT During my internship and teaching in the Neighborhood, I had many interesting experiences and realized that I was also able to convey English language lessons to children Beside me, there are always people who are willing to help and support OVERVIEW Service Learning is teaching and learning, which will connect a meaningful community program, with guidance and the recognition of experiences to make the rich learning experience It will teach for you about sense of civic responsibility of and make strengthen communities Service Learning is also exposed these lesson necessarily and it doesn’t press children Children will own their recognizable lesson They own giving what need to and discuss it In addition, their facilitator is the coordinator and giving many methods That is an interesting of project This project has any requests, expect a lot much from children Only giving them the knowledge that they learned in class and they can apply things in their life That is the benefit of students and therefore they can participation time at learning service project, many young people must always challenge them and they must raise the sense of initiative in their work, their education And of course it will bring these benefits for many young Service learning is formed by the support of many committees in all provinces They encourage students to volunteer with passionate spirit and confidence Service learning is a volunteer program which connects people together and has the enthusiastic participation from students at all universities Forms of this learning can be done by students will device into groups and share at all Wards They are guided, communicated, participated in these training courses so that they can be provided some teaching experience from their instructor and therefore, they have good knowledge to teach and ensure the quality of lessons for them Students can form their personal work with others in the class and in the community to innovate these service projects in the fields of education, social security or environment Service learning project is supported of the ward so everyone always creates many material conditions for children to learn such as: books, tables, bags, pens, Here, they will learn some cultural subjects or social subject English Service learning brings warm with people, especially supporting who have not conditions to participate learning, and we will reduce an illiteracy, that contributed to raising awareness of people, heightening the importance of literacy In addition, service learning encourages people at all ages can participate They are supported free in all aspects and they will ensure a good quality of knowledge Without learning, they will be participating in some funny activities by organizing of volunteers and it builds solidarity for emotional connection between people Now, service learning is developing with many foreign students in all countries Volunteers in all provinces are sent mountainous or highlands to teach the poor children Many charity programs provide books and clothes for these children can go to school Service learning is not only to attract students and volunteers but also encourages everyone can participate in the teaching Service learning can be applied in the diversity many different environments such as: nursery school, primary school, secondary school or university to these community societies Especially, service learning of model is not only to attract students to participate but also encourages students of pedagogical lectures because they have good knowledge of the skills learned at school This will help them to gain more experience in their teaching after graduation Service learning of model is acting by their own established, with some requires volunteers can teach a long-term, have a lots of enthusiasm with children in the class of love CONTENT OF THE REPORT Introduction and description of internship place The information and the development Education and training The children who met us were always excited and greeted whenever we entered the classroom Ask me what lesson we will teach them today, they said they learned the lesson and copied the previous day's lesson They show us today that there are a few new classmates I and my friends are really happy because the kids are always excited to study with us You go to school very well and absorb lessons quickly Activities Each class, our group organizes a lot of activities for children Before the class, we often Warm-up give children the dance songs with English music, give the hearts made of paper to the children of the old lesson In each lesson, we always combine teaching new vocabulary and images related to those words to help children remember longer After each main lesson, we create groups to dance To increase the atmosphere for the lesson, both teachers and students dance together Besides, we also organize many games for children, for example: When learning about the topic "Animals", we will let you small children guess the animal When learning about "Emotion", we often let children read their emotions and express their faces at the same time In addition, we also allow parents to join with us for the lesson I feel they are very happy because their children really improve Description internship process and Job description Description internship process My internship took place from February 25th to April 26th, 2019 Before starting my internship, I had introduced about the staff of teachers and the circulation for children and their parents My job was to teach for the kids in the ward at night Be a teacher, I had to teach for students about the basic knowledge of English of reading and speaking Therefore, I thought the teacher must active and creative in teaching, always created many exciting activities for children In during my internship time, I taught children follow the topics that I mentioned in action plan Although our class had a lot of levels from grade to grade 5, I taught simple knowledge that suitable for childrens I spent ten weeks teaching English, the lesson started from 7p.m to 8:15p.m on each Wednesday and Friday In the first week, children at the class of love will begin to learn the greeting in English In second week, children will learn the alphabet English In the next weeks, children will learn English lessons related to many topics such as: colors, animals, food, fruits, weather, family and shapes The teaching new words will follow step by step such as: Vowels and consonants learning - The international phonetic symbols (IPS) - meaning reaction - game Through my internship time, I must ensure that all children are known to spell and remember the alphabet Next, children will be studied these forms question in English by apply into vocabulary learned Then I will give the previous example and take form the sample form (add S and V) to complete sentences The teaching English is always guaranteed that I will use more communication English than Vietnamese In summary, this is a job which requires responsibility, good sense of humor and clear speaking voice Especially, teacher must patiently investigate, has specific knowledge and be able to communicate well Maybe this is reasons which make me to change my thoughts and bad habit Hence, I loved this job; it gave me a patient Benefits of internship: The impact of this project participation during my internship process During my internship, this is the most meaningful time before I graduate Participation in service learning project, there helps me change and become more grown-up every day With myself, I have learned many useful things and I feel more confident and bolder during my teaching I've changed my way of thinking and I always think about more positive direction Through this project, I want to contribute capabilities, my knowledge learned to help for society 12  I want to myself become a responsible people, change myself and change my lifestyle  This is an opportunity for me to study something new, I can improve my knowledge and assert myself That helped me overcome many difficulties problems  This project has changed my perception, more and more positive I think I need to dedicate myself and my time of youth Besides, I ready face to face with every problem With society, participation in service learning is not only appeal to the youth volunteers, but also the community  They will have a better awareness to join hands helping for the community, share about physic for the kids in miserable classes  It is encouraging them promotion of love with each other Those children will feel so warm from the social community The experience accumulated after my internship period The most valuable thing I learning during my project, I have accumulated a lot of experiences when I took part in teaching for kids in the ward Before my internship time, I have provided some knowledge of teaching English to children, so I always have a good preparation at class During internship time here, I have been supported everything by volunteers I learned to be patient, rigorous and disciplined for children In addition, I had observed, monitored the teaching process of volunteers to give these notes for my teaching Volunteers showed for me many difficulties in the way of training kids and they always make conditions for me well adapted with the new teaching environment I have learned from the experience of these volunteers involved about the solidarity, willing to support each other They have done their share, understanding for the situation of kids However, volunteers were not afraid of difficulties to accompany them during the kid’s learning Besides, I deeply admire volunteers in the class of love, they have tried to arrange their time in order to maintain class while studying and working My teaching in the class of love is an opportunity for me to apply the knowledge learned During my internship time, I’m ready to good all works and I completed everything very well In addition, volunteers in the ward had seen my attempt and enthusiasm in my teaching English 13 The personal experience acquired through the training course Through ten weeks of training process at the class of love, I got a lot valuable working experience and the teaching skills In my opinion, these precious experiences will help me a lot for my work in future I feel about my project is meaningful and useful It helps the children learn the literacy, character of development for them so they have a good sense of the social and legal The best part of the project is these real activities, intimacy, and need in society, the high spirit of learning Because everyone involved in this project with their heart, their loving, and passionate desire to contribute in the community The hardest part of the project is material facilities of deprivation in the classroom of love Children not have access class regularly and that makes for their learning become much difficult Besides, children are very stubborn, hard to teach so the teacher must be patient If I could make changes in the lives of the people benefitting from my project, that helps them will acquire many knowledge to help their work and children will be learning and have sufficient awareness of all aspects and it will help their lives Because, I think that everyone need to make a meaningful work to help the community and have a responsibility to the community, so I also need to give myself a sense of responsibility The ways are that I could stay involved in this project in the future: I feel there are many opportunities to participate, I can be come directly to observe the class of love In addition, I will participate in these voluntarily of program or the service learning group across the network or from the recommendation of my friend who has joined the group Advantages and Disadvantages Advantages I'm very lucky to be involved in the teaching job in the class of love Volunteers have supported to create conditions for me during my teaching process From there, they can assess my capability in during my internship here I have been the enthusiastic support of my instructors through training course She gave me the useful knowledge and I have been given the indication of English teaching for kids, the method of a teacher and handle situations of padagogy In the class of love, I'm proud to have done very well of my teaching The knowledge that I was her guidance provided, I can apply it very well in my teaching 14 Besides, I advise about what is best to and give thoughtful recommendations Volunteers are always to offer useful advice for me has more experience in my teaching The class of love has been many attention of many people, so the facilities where I internship is relatively good and full about desk, chair and board I involved in the class of love with many advantages At the class of love have a disciplinary measures about keeping discipline in the classroom So many students are very docile with the teacher In the class of love, I’m very comfortable and I can promote my abilities in anywhere And I can be creative freedom in my teaching job, so I’m free from any psychology pressure in my preparing lesson Thanks to the knowledge learned, I can easily develop and accumulate my teaching experience, know how to observe the students to give these methods effective learning Volunteers are very close and enthusiastic in recommendation of the operation, said about the provisions of the class of love so I can better understand the status of the class, the plight of students from which help useful for their teaching Students at the class of love are very naughty and stubborn but they are very polite to the teachers I was very fortunate taught at the class of love, students are very enthusiastic and loving to these new teachers Participated in service learning, I find myself much improved And I had changed myself much more, I was profoundly aware of the difficult circumstances, the work of kids That makes motivates for me to better things for the community society I had worked with my group, we share about these ways of teaching, the organizing games and exchange our ideas, discussion together to fulfill this new role My internship time is always followed closely by my teachers My instructor arrive observation and comment so that I can know my weaknesses in my teaching process The things need to make notes or questions, my instructor is dedicated to share and give sincere advices The class of love is always brings warm atmosphere, loving so I feel extremely comfortable and funny In addition, many kids are very intelligent, so the learning of children took part in very quickly and they have much more progress With some kids are so slow, they will be supported to the other people in my group, I helped them more improved than their classmates Service learning is a new environment so that I can verify my competency Through this teaching day, I have applied the knowledge learned into my teaching And I’m a lot of useful experience for myself after I graduated 15 Disadvantages Because this is the first time I participated in these projects so I always feel nervous much for my teaching job in the next time At the beginning, I fell too far away from volunteers and kids at the class of love, so my psychological is uncomfortable and unnatural I really not understand the nature and circumstances of the kids and I fell too difficulties Everything which I prepare to teach the kids become familiar and they feel alienated from new teacher There are a few kids acquire too slow, they always find so difficult to pronounce tongue English Although I helped the children overcome mistakes repeatedly Because the kids must learning and working all days, so they not have much time to their homework So many students have forgotten these vocabularies learned That makes me take a long time to review them all Many kids are very afraid in the learning English because it's too hard to remember, read and write, so they not initially enthusiastic in learning English During my teaching time, children are always difficult to speak their English pronunciation and learn how to spell them, so I always have to prepare a lot of methods and games to read fluently Some students because of family circumstances, they are not attending in classroom regularly So I must give the kids private tuition in English in order to keep up with classmates However, there were also a few cases the kids can not go to class I feel very sad for them The students must accept many disadvantages about physically and mentally, their qualifications will be slower than their student educated at school So I must guide step by step for the kids understand I not have much time to find out about them so I not understand the psychology and personality of each student pupils Especially, the kids are very active so my classroom is often noisy That makes adverse effect to their learning In the class of love has not enough physical conditions and learning tools, so I must prepare much more pictures to attract the children enjoy learning English Because they have to go to work too soon, so many kids are very stubborn and headstrong Some children not listen to the teacher or oppose with the teachers I am extremely nervous in my new role because I had not many experiences in my teaching and I’m always many difficulties in resolving the situation at classroom The kids have to work all days, so they fell tired in during at class And I have prepared a lot of games and tell some good stories That makes the atmosphere is become more active 16 Every week, I must exchange with my group for giving and teaching methods appropriate to the children and I can help them remember the words longer With my first teaching time, I could not control the naughty students in class My internship time is not long enough for me understand full the situation of them There are some children that I cannot know what they need, what they want REFLECTIVE WRITING Week 1: Day 1(27/02/2019): This is the first time we have come to the ward It was very surprise because many children gathered with their parents They were friendly and hospitable The mood of the children is like the first day of going to school The presidents in that ward were very enthusiast and respected us On that day, we just met students and made friend with them We named the English name for students and divided day to teach We also received some suggest of students’ parent and then we arranged suitable lesson for our students This showed that we came here not only to teach but also to learn experiences from the predecessors in the way of communication The first day was took place very happy and would be interested on the next day Day (01/03/2019): In the second day of internship, we taught the alphabet The students were seemed like they had known it already so we did not spend much time teaching them They read fluently and were very interested about our lesson We had a song for students to listen Besides listening, we also danced follow the music It was a beautiful moment because we sang, danced and were happy together After that, I had a mini game for them, it named ‘Rub out and remember’ I gave the instruction and example for them Students belonged to lesson and practiced very well in class The students participated in very actively and enthusiastically I felt very happy by students’ attraction and everyone's care We were proud of our students because they could get what we taught 17 Week 2: Day (06/ 03/2019): We taught about ‘Colors’ Before the lesson we had a song for students to sing and dance together We just taught students five basic colors (red, blue, yellow, pink and purple) Then, we made a game for them to play and review the words On this day, I felt very interested because I sang and danced with students, they were very excited We created the funny atmosphere before starting the new lesson Many students went to the class Students were quite interested in the lesson today, so they learned very well However, that day I had a problem with some students who were very noisy They were not obey and just did what they liked We had to keep patient and told them many time After that, they also listened a little bit Although we had a bit problem, this was an interesting experience for my own when I taught the children Day (08/03/2019): That day was a special day We still went to the class and reviewed the old lesson – colors We danced “Baby Shark” first and then, we reviewed five colors that children had learned Next, we started to teach new colors (orange, brown, black green and white) We organized some activities for them to remember the colors such as: Rubout and Remember, Who is faster? I saw the student had good remember They could learn by their heart and write the words Finally, my friend - Nhung told them a story named “Going to the dentist” Before finishing the class, we were received roses and gifts and had a small party with the presidents of the ward Happy Women’s Day! Week 3: Day (13/03/2019): At first, we sang the song alphabet Then, we reviewed ten colors that students had learned and made some activities for children to remember and write them down They quite did not remember how to write all of the words They just remembered some basic colors, the others could not We felt sad and disappointed a little bit But we were more worried because students did not spend time studying and writing Now, they were lazy and did not focus on our lesson much I feared their learning will be influenced We also changed the way to teach by the way we combined about studying and playing We also had more supporters in each table That supporter would help us to keep quite the class and fixed the speaking mistake of students This week, my instructor had provided these 18 mini-games, song so that we could apply for my teaching In my experience, I had to review the vocabulary every day and check their exercises That made them to remember the lesson longer It was better for my students to focus on the lesson Day (15/03/2019): In this day, many students came to the class and they learned very well They attended activities positively, besides, main teacher and supporters trained more about classroom management skills I was very surprised because children were exercised very respectable and principle Besides, children always went to school very punctually Children felt very interested with learning English In addition, they were very friendly and funny with these new teachers Those made me feel very happy With my class in this week, I had taught for children about the ways to read and write the words about weather Children were very active and enthusiastic in class Especially, children were always raised their hand to answer my question Week 4: Day (20/03/2019): On this day, we taught the topic “family” This was a familiar topic so children studied very quickly and positively Teacher did not spend much time teaching them We just focused on their pronunciation and helped them how to write the words During my lesson, we used body language, sang a song, made game or gave some examples outside to help students not to feel bored and sleepy Our team also help and gave some advise to each other, we often shared and discussed how to teach, how to make the children feel interesting in our lesson or how to arrange the class We worked, helped and supported together Day (22/03/2019): We divided group for students They might work hard and keep silent by themselves If they did it, we would give them the marks and had a small gift for their group The children worked in groups and obeyed the rules in class The rule made them to keep silent in class and work very positive Children felt very happy when they got hearts for their group Therefore, we created many activities for them to do, to get gift for their group My class became more interesting and comfortable I would try to create an exciting atmosphere in my class and all children would remember the lesson longer Finishing the class, I felt more confident and I hoped that my next teaching will have more convenient and successful I had also learned many lessons for myself about how to teach effective and good for my teaching 19 Week 5: Day (27/03/2019): On that day, our class was full of the students So they were quite noisy and did not focus on our teaching We had to spend more time keeping silent the class and giving some punish However, there are many students really good They followed our lesson and completed all of the exercises That day, we taught them not much We also felt unhappy but we always reminded ourselves try our best to teach in love In the lesson, we continued to dance with them the song “hello song” Students were instructed how to dance this song And then, each group would go to the stage and danced, which group dance well, they would get two symbols of heart for their group They felt very excited to dance the song Although that day we had a bit problem, we would save it on our heart to make a beautiful memory Day 10 (29/03/2019): We taught children “fruits” We asked them many question about their favorite fruits They seemed like very excited so they learned very well However, students were also so noisy We had to spend many times reminding them When I taught this lesson, I gave some examples for students to understand easily Besides, I combined the color lesson with this lesson, so they could remember the colors and the name of the fruits After that I made some small games for them to remember the words Students seemed look like very excited the lesson That day, I really impressed with a boy He was very hard-working I taught him once but he could get it He was interesting when I told him about the fruits He could draw the fruits and write its name Week 6: Day 11 (03/04/2019): That day was a terrible day We had a lot of problems First, we had to review all of old lessons to help them remember However, some students did not pronounce the words They had problem with their tongue They could not read the word fluently and also could not read it The noise is still a problem that we need to solve I taught them about the food In addition, I taught student about the vocabulary in English and learned pronunciation I got lots of experiences to fix the error and improve myself more I felt more confident in my class and I could understand the psychology of my students Day 12 (05/04/2019): Children were better They remembered how to read and write the words about the fruits and food We also made some games relative to the lesson Students loved more English 20 through each lesson and they were also more active than these first day Many students were shy in my class but now they were more confident and comfortable In my opinion, I thought the teacher should design some interesting activities such as playing games, sing the songs to help the students learn English effectively So I always focused and prepared meticulously Because these activities helped students to remember well and they did not feel boring in my class That made me have more motivate to fulfill my role In addition, I have changed markedly about everything in my life I have become more confident and have a sense of responsibility to my student Week 7: Day 13 (10/04/2019): On that day, many students were absent but the others studied passively I taught them about the feeling They also showed the feeling follow the word Some students knew the words and pronounced them correctly, but the rest of students pronounced these words incorrectly and they did not remember how to pronounce these words So those students should practice at home The noise was reduced Therefore, we danced and sang with students I always tried to use English in my class to help my students familiar Students learned many new words, it was very difficult in order to speak them So I gave students more practice and I pointed out these mistakes in students' reading Day 14 (12/04/2019): Now, when we drew the shape, students could identify the shapes of items around them We also made game by the way we drew the shape and asked them “what is it?” and “how many squares or circles?” However, students could not remember how to write these words They just knew how to read but did know how to write So children should practice at home to recognize the shapes of other items in their house and remember how to pronounce these words That day, many students came to the class That made my students always excited to learn English Students were very enthusiastic to take part in my game Now, we could control our class, so I felt very happy But I did not stop trying to change myself I thought I had made more progress before and I hoped that I will improve my mistake and my weaknesses in my teaching Week 8: Day 15 (17/04/2019): We reviewed old lesson and required the students to write the words Besides, we asked them by Vietnamese and they would answer by English They were very interested when they attended this lesson Some students learnt very well, so they could answer all of our questions However, we also encourage some other that could not answer our questions We corrected some students’ mistakes about their pronunciation We still had many 21 difficulties with the students so slowly To sum up, that day was a happy day The students were more hard-working and study very well Day 16 (19/04/2019): On that day, we reviewed old lesson first And then we made some games for them to practice the words I was very happy and excited because every lesson had added many things useful and meaningful I realized that I learned many interesting things in my teaching I always wanted my students could interest in English I called children go to the board to write some words and read it with their classmate I thought that thing would help them more confident in my class I am very love children For me, each day is a memory in my life I am really happy to become a teacher Week 9: Day 17 (24/04/2019): Students did some exercises We prepared the test very easy and suitable with each level But some students could not that We could understand and share these things that our students need for their learning So I always tried to support my student learned better My students were very comfortable and happy because they could learn and played in my class They will remember lesson longer All of children were obedient and gave some questions for us It showed that they understood and focus on lesson Day 18 (26/04/2019): Today is the last day we teach Students the test We are happy because we complete our job We can give knowledge to the children We are very proud of them Before finishing the class, we give the gift for person got the highest mark We also have small gifts for others This encouraged them to try their best to the test Each student will be a piece in our student’s life It makes many beautiful memories for us to remember later We really love children in this ward so we also continue to teach them although this course has finished 22 REFERENCES
