Underinsured or Uninsured?
A Guideto Healthcare ResourcesinAllegheny County
Following is a list of clinics and health centers inAlleghenyCounty that service
people without health insurance or who are minimally insured. Most of the clinics and
centers require an appointment, so a call is necessary to make an appointment and check
hours of operation. Due to rising unemployment and growing numbers of people losing
their health insurance, some clinics have seen increased demand, so it may take up to
a month or longer to get an appointment as a new patient. To help with the process of
getting reduced cost care, ask what documentation is needed to complete the application
for assistance as well as how much money is requested for the rst visit.
Some providers listed in the following section offer assistance with behavioral health
issues. For a more comprehensive listing of resources devoted to mental health and

Services Available: Primarily for women. Pregnancy tests, birth control, emergency

Insurance: Serves those without health insurance and who are not eligible for public or
private insurance programs such as Medicare or Medicaid.
Assistance: Individuals may be eligible for free services if household income does not
exceed 200% of federal poverty guidelines. Examples of income documentation
include recent pay stubs, W2 form, recent tax return, benet letter from Social
Security, denial letter from Medical Assistance, verication of wages from employer,
or Prot/Loss Statement for self employed.
Services Available: Appointments are needed for medical services, which include
primary care, health screenings, chronic care management, women’s health and
medication assistance. Dental services provided include exams, teeth cleanings,
x-rays, extractions and limited restorations. Call for appointment, current health
center’s hours and information about what documentation to bring.

medical assistance plans generally accepted. Clients with commercial insurance are
responsible to check with their insurance carrier to conrm covered services prior to
care.
Assistance: For uninsured, a contract with Adagio Health provides gynecological care
and family planning on a sliding scale fee based on monthly income and family size.
Services Available: Services only for women. With Woman Fridays: walk-ins on
Fridays 1 p.m. – 4:30 p.m. for gynecological care, family planning, STD testing and
treatment, mammography referrals, etc. Appointments can be made for these services
on other days. A Spanish-speaking midwife is available for women whose primary
language is Spanish. Con Mujeres, a walk-in service for Spanish speaking women, is
available the rst Friday of every month from 2 p.m. – 4:30 p.m.
