Classic How to upgrade a catalog from a previous version of Lightroom Classic Users can import or open a catalog from a previous version of Lightroom Classic, comprising a beta version Once you this, Lightroom Classic will automatically upgrade The newly updated catalog will include the entire metadata linked with the former photos and catalog Here's how: First of all, you can perform any of the below options: Open Lightroom Classic If you have formerly launched Lightroom Classic, simply select File and Open Catalog Move over to the previous catalog lrcat file, and select Open When asked, tap Relaunch to terminate the present catalog and reopen Lightroom Classic Finally, tap Upgrade CHAPTER TWO How to move or copy a catalog You can also move and copy a catalog from one location to another However, before doing so, ensure you back up your preferred catalog files Here's how: Find the folder that has the preview and catalog files From there, select Edit and Catalog Settings Study the details part of the General panel, and select Show to move to the catalog in the Explorer on Windows or Finder on Mac (NB: If you are unable to identify photos or folders moved to the catalog, look to find a question mark icon represented by folder names in the folder panel) Close Lightroom Classic In the Finder on Mac or Explorer on Windows, proceed to move or copy the catalog lrcat and all other relevant files to the newly created location Tap twice on the file in the newly created location to launch it How to export a catalog You can form a catalog that includes a detachment of a higher catalog by choosing the images and exporting them as a new catalog Exporting a catalog is overly important if you import photos into a catalog and also adding them to another catalog Here's how: Choose the exact photos you will like to add to the newly created catalog Then select File and Export As Catalog Choose the Catalog location and name Select if you will like to export the negative previews and files, and tap Export Catalog for Mac and Save for Windows Note: "Negative files" in this sense means the first files that were previously imported into Lightroom Classic Also, the new catalog has the links to the images you selected, and you need to launch the new catalog to see it How to delete a catalog Erasing a catalog automatically removes the entire job you have completed and failed to save in Lightroom Classic Although the previews are erased, the original images that are linked to are not erased, and you can access them whenever you want Here's how: With the Finder and Explorer on Mac and Windows respectively, find the folder that houses your catalog and move it to the Trash on Mac and Recycling Bin on Windows (NB: Ensure the folder you erased comprises of only the catalog files you want to delete, and not extra files) To improve performance level, Lightroom Classic generates a Previews folder close to the lrcat files in the Finder or Explorer on Mac and Windows respectively Also, you shouldn't have any issue if you erase the folder if it contains the same lrcat file name How to change the default catalog Without making any changes, Lightroom Classic launches
