Farmer, Soul Food Farm, Vacaville – I am a farmer in Norther California. For the last 15 years we have been farming in Solano County. For several years we were the largest pastured poultry farm in California. Four years ago we closed our chicken business down and have spent the time redesigning the farm. Developing new avenues to produce food that we can market and share. Such as olive oil, lavender essential oil, farm eggs, fruits, strawberries and flowers. We continue to farm and learn new techniques for improving the soil and managing the farm everyday. We hope to continue farming as long as we can. Winemaker, Armida Winery, Healdsburg – I have been the Winemaker at Armida Winery for 8 years. But, I began this industry at the bottom, being an intern, scrubbing tanks and barrels. I wasn’t “born” into the wine industry, but with a good education and work ethic, I was able to achieve most of my personal professional goals. I deal with almost every aspect of a winery; monitoring vineyards throughout California, balancing production budgets, choosing oak barrels, scheduling bottling and supplies, and most importantly helping the winery sell the wine. Year after year more than 50% of Piedmont youth participate in the council’s many Programs – currently over 1000 girls and boys participate in scouting programs from Cub Scouts to Venturing. In support of these youth are some 300 adult volunteers and three full time staff members. Piedmont Council has been sponsoring Career Day at Piedmont High School for over 40 years. 18
