Oklahoma City Mayor’s Committee on Disability Concerns ADA Special Session “Drawing the Line: What’s Working in the Accessible Design Industry” Friday, October 11, 2019 | 8:00AM 5:00 PM City of Oklahoma City Training Center, 3738 SW 15TH Street, Oklahoma City, OK CREDITS: HSW Learning Units – American Institute of Architects (AIA) – International Code Council (ICC) Credits and ACTCP (ADA Coordinator Training Certification Program) COST: $125.00 per person (includes lunch) Registration Form SCOPE 8:00AM to 5:00PM: This advanced architectural program examines key accessibility concepts of the 2010 DOJ Standards for Accessible Design and the 2017 International Code Council/A117.1 in an innovative format oriented toward practical solutions We apply accessible design concepts using real world examples, examining what’s required; what’s changing; what’s harmonized; what works; and what does not work for people with disabilities, contractors, designers, code officials and state accessibility inspectors The course delves into the shifting perceptions of accessibility and applications of mobility devices in society that brought about the new ICC/A117.1 expanded wheelchair footprints, turning radius’, and other fundamental changes that impact square footages, costs and business We examine how those new ICC/A117.1 provisions and do-not harmonize with the 2010 DOJ Standards Throughout the full day program, we examine interpretations, technical assistance and clarifications from the US Access Board and the Dept of Justice, designers, agencies and persons with disabilities, and technical assistance experts ABOUT THE Richard Sternadori MA Arch, M.Ed., AIA, CBO, ACTCP, PCRC is the Education Coordinator and SPE Research Director for the University of Missouri (MU) Great Plains ADA Center since 2008 He is AKE registered with the American Institute of Architects and holds a Masters of Architecture from R MU where he is an Instructor with the Department of Architectural Studies Richard also has Masters of Education in Counseling Psychology, with a specialty and certification in disabilities rehabilitation His background includes commercial and high-rise construction as a union master carpenter, followed by 15 years as Chief Building Official Richard chaired the ICC Contractor Licensing Committee, whose work led to the current contractor licensing exams used today by all 50 states Governor Joan Finney appointed Rich to the Kansas State Board of Technical Professions, who oversee education and licensing for architects, engineers and surveyors Richard is the liaison between the ADA Centers and the ICC and directs the design track for the annual ADA National Symposiums He’s a published researcher and author, conducting and publishing accessibility research regarding community and campus accessibility and livability To register, please fill in your information below and mail registration forms along with your check(s) to: Oklahoma Statewide Independent Living Council, Attn: Sidna Madden 3535 NW 58th Street, Suite 480 Oklahoma City, OK 73112 *Please make check(s) payable to: The Mayor’s Committee on Disability Concerns Deadline for registration is September 30, 2019 To register and pay on-line, click here: https://okc-mcdc.org/ada-special-session-workshop/ Attendee Name/ Organization Address/City/State/Zip Phone/Fax E-Mail If you have any questions regarding this session, please contact Sidna Madden at (405)684-7223 or smadden@oksilc.org If you need any accommodations or alternative formats, please email smadden@oksilc.org no later than September 30, 2019
