Summer/Fall 2020 Orientation Updates • • • • • • Recently, all State University System (SUS) institutions were requested to review their Orientation program fees Florida statute (1009.24.14b) requires all SUS institutions provide students with an Orientation option that does not exceed $35 To ensure compliance with this statute, beginning spring term 2020, FTIC and Transfer students will have two options for completing Orientation; the Pegasus and Knightro experiences At UCF Downtown the Orientation schedules will mirror the main campus program with slight differences based on UCF Downtown offices, resources, etc and FYE’s Assistant Director, Judi Ohochukwu will follow-up with more information Student success/resource information will be provided on Day of the FTIC Orientation and all academic content will be provided on Day This was implemented for UCF Downtown during the Spring 2020 FTIC session FTICs who select to attend the Knightro Orientation experience will only attend Day Day will begin at 10 a.m.; meaning from – 10 a.m students and guests will check-in, can select to attend elective presentations during this time, go on campus tours, etc If your area is interested in hosting a session on your own or offering the opportunity for students to “drop-in” to your office, please follow-up by February 14 FTIC students will continue to complete a Virtual Orientation, but this coming year content will be adjusted to further prepare students for their Orientation experience (before, during, and after) as well as provide content in an online environment It will be mandatory and available starting April When reviewing the drafted schedule, please know titles of sessions are NOT finalized; these are being reviewed and will be adjusted as needed Rosen College of Hospitality Management Orientations Incoming FTIC students who are Rosen College of Hospitality Management majors will have the option to select FTIC dates where their Day occurs on the Rosen Campus (May 27 and June 24) This Day program will occur concurrently while the program continues at main campus for all other majors; there will continue to be two Transfer Orientations at the Rosen Campus for Rosen College of Hospitality Majors (June and June 30) FYE’s Assistant Director Judi Ohochukwu will follow-up with more information Spanish-speaking Guest Orientation Two FTIC Orientation sessions will include guest content offered in Spanish on main campus (May 28-29 and July 8-9) First Year Experience will continue to coordinate the schedule and location for the program; however, it is the responsibility of the presenting department(s) to identify a Spanish-speaker to present the content and provide the name(s) and contact information to First Year Experience The presenting department(s) are responsible for providing the presentation content in Spanish, which may require translating PowerPoints, videos, etc in preparation for the schedule Spanish-speaking Guest events The solidified schedule will be available soon as well as volunteers that may be willing to assist offices with translations or serving as a presenter
