The Albert & Dorothy Jenkins Scholarship Administered by The Savannah Community Foundation, Inc The purpose of The Albert & Dorothy Jenkins Scholarship Fund (the “Fund”) administered by The Savannah Community Foundation, Inc (“SCF”) is to provide a $2,000 scholarship per year for up to four years to a graduating senior attending the high schools in each of Appling County, Bleckley County, Burke County and Screven County, Georgia Preference is to be given to students who will be attending Brewton Parker College, Georgia Southern University, Middle Georgia State University, or Valdosta State University The applicants should have an intention to major in Journalism, English, Communications, or a closely related subject The other eligibility criteria are as follows: Applicants must have a cumulative grade point average of at least 80 on a 100 point scale or 2.0 on a 4.0 scale Applicants must submit an official high school transcript Applicants must have two Letters of Recommendation – one from a faculty member or coach and one from an employer, spiritual leader or community leader The Letters of Recommendation are discussed further in Part E of the Application Form attached No scholarship recipient may be related to any Scholarship Committee member closer than second cousin by blood or marriage Scholarships must be awarded without regard to race, religion, age or national origin Scholarship monies may be used for tuition, room, board, books and other educational expenses necessary for attendance (physically or remotely) that are charged by the college or university SCF will disburse the scholarship monies directly to the college or university on behalf of the recipient student in halves prior to the start of each semester SCF will direct the payee college or university that if the student withdraws and otherwise would be entitled to a tuition refund, the refund must be made to SCF The Scholarship Committee for each County shall be comprised of the high school Principal or his/her designee, the Guidance Counselor or his/her designee and a local businessperson chosen by agreement of the other two committee members The Principal or his/her designee shall be the Chairperson The Chairperson must sign and return a Certification of Award Form provided by SCF showing the recipient’s contact information and certifying that the selection was made in compliance with the above requirements The Albert & Dorothy Jenkins Scholarship Application Form - 2021 (To be completed by students and submitted to the Guidance Counselor’s office by March 26, 2021.)
