Los Angeles Mission College Los Angeles, CA Los Angeles Overview Founded in 1975, Los Angeles Mission College is the newest of the nine colleges in the Los Angeles Community College District Its 22-acre campus, located in the northeast San Fernando Valley, is among the most scenic in the state It has an enrollment of about 7,000 students Small class sizes allow for close contact with instructors Excellent academic programs, a focus on university transfer, and workforce training are the hallmarks of education at Los Angeles Mission College Los Angeles Mission provides new state-of-the-art technology, innovative programs and a competent faculty to bring to the student the most modern learning tools available Los Angeles Mission College offers students one of the broadest areas of academic exposure in one of the most pleasant environments in which to pursue an academic career Academics Los Angeles Mission College will ensure that students master academic and workplace knowledge and skills by providing comprehensive lower-division general education, Associate of Arts or Science degree programs, occupational education, transfer education, developmental education, counseling and guidance, and community services which will meet the needs of people in the San Fernando Valley as well as international students English As Second Language (ESL) Los Angeles Mission College prefers that students submit TOEFL scores In such circumstances when the TOEFL is waived, an assessment is required upon arrival for either the ESL program or the regular academic program.  If a student scores upwards of level in ESL I, students may be able to allow parallel coursework The ESL program offers intensive English instruction that ranges from beginning language skills to advanced level composition  courses Students in the program improve their listening, speaking, reading and writing skills in a friendly classroom atmosphere with a caring and enthusiastic faculty Transfer Center: Many students at Los Angeles Mission College choose to take advantage of the university transfer center where students have computers to access university or major prep information, complete their transfer application and write their personal statement, receive transfer counseling, meet with university/college representative or speak to a peer mentor, as well as attend transfer and career related workshops Representatives from UCLA, Loyola Marymount, and several other local universities are often on campus and the office organizes field trips to the university campuses so Community College in the USA student can see everything first hand LAMC follows the Intersegmental General Education Transfer Curriculum which allows students to take the course load of first two years of a bachelor degree at a community college The Transfer office and International student advisor assist students in selecting the required courses for their intended degree Students are encouraged to apply early for guaranteed admission at many of the UC campuses through the TAG (Transfer Agreement Guarantee) This is a formal, written agreement that outlines the courses a student must complete before transferring, states the grade point average the student must earn and lists specific requirements for selective majors Los Angeles Mission College Los Angeles, CA Student Life International students receive excellent support from the international student office Not only are they there to help the students but also organize specialized workshops for International Students on immigration, employment, academics, and extra-curricular activities There is also an International Student Club where new students can make new friends, discuss academics, or just have fun!
