Notice and Call for Papers: Joint Meeting of The History and Pedagogy of Mathematics (HPM), Americas Section and The Midwest History of Mathematics Conference (MHMC) October 17-19, 2014 HPM-Americas and the MHMC are pleased to announce a meeting Friday afternoon through Sunday morning, October 17 to 19, 2014, at Wabash College, in Crawfordsville, Indiana We seek a variety of talks, ranging from scholarship in the history of mathematics to the relations between the history and pedagogy of mathematics Talks directly relevant to the use of the history of mathematics in mathematics classrooms are also welcome, as are presentations relating history to pedagogy Talks will be approximately 30 minutes long Accepted presenters may also elect to submit a paper to an edited and peer-reviewed proceedings Crawfordsville is located off Interstate 74, approximately 45 miles west-northwest of the Indianapolis metropolitan area and 60 miles east-southeast of Urbana/Champaign, Illinois The Indianapolis International Airport (IND) is served by most major airlines, with nonstop service to many cities and major airline hubs Some train service is available to Crawfordsville on Amtrak’s Hoosier and Cardinal State lines Wabash College was founded in 1832, and today remains one of only three liberal arts colleges for men in the United States Crawfordsville is home to a variety of historical sites, including the General Lew Wallace Study and Museum (author of Ben-Hur), Henry Lane Place (Governor of Indiana, Senator, and pallbearer for President Lincoln), one of the earliest rotary jails, and the site of both the first official basketball game in Indiana and the first intercollegiate basketball game Abstracts of proposed talks must be submitted by September 15, 2014 To submit an abstract you may visit our website: http://www.hpm-americas.org, or send it to Dave Roberts: robertsdl@aol.com The HPM-Americas website will also host conference information, including details about hotel accommodations (forthcoming) You can register for the meeting on the website Registrations received by September 22, 2014 will be $65.00 ($55 for full-time graduate students and K-12 teachers) Late and on-site registration will be $5 higher Registrations include meals (supper Friday, breakfast, lunch, and supper Saturday, and breakfast Sunday) Payment can either be made online or by check (preferred) For checks, please complete the attached form, with check made out to Wabash College (memo: MHMC conf.) and mail to Colin McKinney Department of Mathematics and Computer Science Wabash College 301 W Wabash Avenue Crawfordsville, IN 47933 Registration Form Joint Meeting of The Midwest History of Mathematics Conference (MHMC) And The History and Pedagogy of Mathematics (HPM), Americas Section October 17-19, 2014 Online Registration is available at http://www.hpm-americas.org Use this form for U.S Mail registration and/or payment The organizers also welcome registration on the day of the meeting as well as payment in cash However, if you plan to so, we would appreciate an email, announcing your intention to attend and lunch choice (see below), sent to mckinnec@wabash.edu Name: Affiliation: Email Address: Phone Number: Postal Address: Type of Registration (“X” or indicate number of registrations of each type) • • • • Advance (through Sept 22), Advance (student or K-12 teacher): Late (after Sept 22), Late (student or K-12 teacher): $65 $55 $70 $60 Total (payable to Wabash College, MHMC Conf in memo line): Lunch Choice for Saturday (“X” or indicate number of each choice) (Assorted sides and drinks will also be served) • • • • Chicken Caesar Wrap Club Sandwich Wrap Greek Style Garden Wrap (vegetarian) Southwest Portabella Wrap (vegetarian) Special Needs: Please list any special needs or dietary restrictions:
