Youth Options Student Information The Youth Options program allows public high school juniors and seniors who meet certain requirements to take post-secondary courses Appleton Youth Options students usually take courses at UW-FV, Lawrence University, or Fox Valley Technical College Tuition and books for Youth Options courses are paid for by the Appleton Area School District The books become the property of the Appleton School Dist and must be returned to the Youth Options office in the Morgan school building at 120 E Harris St., Rm 205, OR returned to the student’s high school guidance office at the completion of the course Students considering taking classes under Youth Options need to be aware of the following:  Post-secondary courses by intent are considerably more rigorous than high school courses  Youth Options credits will become part of the high school transcript; Youth Options grades become part of the high school G.P.A  Students enrolling in a Youth Options course are expected to complete the course If a student receives a failing grade in a Youth Options course or fails to complete a course for which the School Board has made payment, the student’s parent or guardian (or the student if he or she is an adult) is required to reimburse the school district the amount paid on the student’s behalf Failure to make reimbursement will result in future denial of Youth Options courses for the student  The district will not pay for any courses that are comparable to those offered in the high schools Any student seeking to take comparable courses must pay for the entire cost and seek permission for release time from the district  The number of college credits students may take at district expense are limited to 18 credits over the two years the student is eligible for Youth Options  PI-87OO-A and the Youth Options Course Request Form must be completed by students and be returned by October or March to their counselor This is an absolute deadline No late Youth Options forms will be accepted  Students will need to make application to college of choice Youth Options is a valuable program for self-motivated students who are seeking an additional challenge Youth Options allows students to pursue college/university credit while still in high school Students choosing Youth Options need to be aware of the personal responsibility this program requires as well as being aware of its benefits Students needing additional information about Youth Options should contact their high school counselor or call Youth Options Coordinator, Dale Hanson, at 832-6157, extension 2176 Page of 8-2014 Directions to complete the PI-8700-A Form and the Course Request Form Step - Complete the PI-8700-A Form  Complete the Student/Parent sections of the PI-8700-A form (sections II, IV and V only) located on the WI DPI website and on the AASD Youth Options website Or, simply click on one of the following links: PI-8700-A Form (Word) or PI-8700-A Form (pdf)  Print and return completed PI-8700-A form and requested paperwork to your high school guidance counselor  You may submit multiple PI-8700-A forms but you may only attend one college per term Step – Complete the AASD Youth Options Course Request Form        Print and return the completed AASD Youth Options Course Request Form located on the AASD Youth Options website or on the following link AASD Course Request Form Fill in your name, high school, and Youth Options college campus Complete Section (columns 1, & 3) In order to be considered for a Youth Options course, you must submit a printed copy of the course syllabus or a printed copy of the course description for each course requested Students are encouraged to contact post-secondary instructors for information Complete a separate Youth Options Course Request Form for each post-secondary school you are applying to You may request courses from multiple post secondary schools but you may only attend one school per term It is the student’s responsibility to submit all the paperwork described above to their guidance counselor by October 1st for 2nd Semester (Lawrence Term & 3) classes and March 1st for 1st Semester (Lawrence Term 1) classes Failure to so will result in a missed deadline No late Youth Options forms beyond these dates will be accepted Step – Apply to College  Work with high school counselor to complete college application process Page of 8-2014 ...
