Person specification: Asia & Pacific Regional Director (28 to 35 hours per week) CRITERION STANDARD Language skills Excellent English: reading/writing/speaking (Essential) Working knowledge of one or more Asian languages (Highly desirable but not essential) Accurate spelling and grammar (Essential) Work permission in one of the eight cities listed Willingness and right to work in one of the following cities (essential that the applicant already has work permission, at the time of application): • Bangkok, Thailand • Delhi, India • Hong Kong, China • Jakarta, Indonesia • Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia • Manila, Philippines • Mumbai, India • Singapore NGO experience At least years total work experience in senior programme posts and/or in managerial posts at NGOs or non-profit organizations that work on human rights, workers’ rights, development, environment, or other social issues (Essential) Experience working on human rights or social justice issues in Asia & Pacific, including with grassroots civil society organizations (Highly desirable but not essential) Managerial/ supervisory/ training skills A drive to achieve results and a record of achievements, demonstrated by concrete examples of initiatives taken in previous roles (Essential) Ability to identify, through comprehension of the ‘bigger picture', practical options and solutions (Essential) Experience supervising staff (Essential) Strong listening and inter-personal skills, and a proven ability to build good relations both internally within the organization and externally (Essential) Ability to work collaboratively (Essential) Ability to provide support and guidance to diverse staff in various countries (Essential) Ability to recruit and train new staff (Essential) Ability to motivate and encourage others to immediate plans to establish office premises in Asia & Pacific, ability & willingness to work from home and/or from a hosting institution, e.g if a university or NGO is willing to provide office space (Essential) Weekend work Ability & willingness to work on weekends on occasion, for example if an important conference is held on a weekend, or if attending a trustee meeting in London held on a
