Give a 1-2 sentence general summary of this job: This is a 10-month, benefits-eligible position The Career Consultant provides confidential counseling and guidance to clients in areas of major/career selection and planning, professional correspondence, interviewing, job search, and graduate school, using a variety of assessments tools and other resources in this process S/he is responsible for relevant programming and workshops, and coordinates Teacher Education Interview Day with the OBB School of Education Finally, this individual manages the student ambassador Pathfinder Program What are the duties, responsibilities and expectations of this position? Be certain to also address decision-making, interfacing with others and this position’s potential impact on the university Assist clients in analyzing and clarifying interests, aptitudes, abilities, values, attitudes, previous work experience, personal traits, goals, and desired life style to promote awareness of the interrelationship between self-knowledge and career choice utilizing various career assessments and individual counseling Effectively use career resources and counseling to assist clients in decisions about graduate school and/ or job search by incorporating best practices in career development Assist clients with research of occupational information, exploratory experiences, employment opportunities, and/or additional education Develop and present workshops/seminars/events in areas of career development that of current interest throughout the academic year Mentor students in developing their own skills in information-seeking and acquisition about jobs, companies, and industries Assist clients with the job search as well as with resume critiques, cover letters, and other professional correspondence for job search or graduate school Organize and coordinate Teacher Education Interview Day with OBB School of Education by maintaining employer and faculty/staff relationships, teaching and supporting education students in job search techniques, and arranging actual interview schedules Appropriately make referrals to other institutional and community support services while also acting as a knowledgeable on-campus resource for faculty, staff, students and alumni on topics such as job search and career planning Manage the Career Development Center Pathfinder Ambassador program through the selection and training process as well as supervises the Pathfinders and their activities during the academic year Readily work with other staff in coordination of major events Describe the minimum education and experience required: Master’s Degree in counseling or student development required (relevant master’s degree with significant and directly-related experience may substitute) 3+ years’ experience in career services is highly desired Computer knowledge is necessary List any specialized skills and knowledge required: Thorough knowledge of career assessments and counseling techniques Excellent written and spoken English communication skills Ability to multi-task, organize, prioritize, manage details, and work independently Ability to maintain a professional, positive, and calm demeanor Ability to interact effectively with and demonstrate sensitivity to a variety of individuals with various needs and communication styles Name of person completing Job description: Dora Ditchfield Date completed: 6.26.19 The above statements are designed to describe the general nature of the job and are not intended to be an exhaustive list of all responsibilities, skills and duties ...List any specialized skills and knowledge required: Thorough knowledge of career assessments and counseling techniques Excellent written and spoken English communication
