SUMMER INTENSIVE 2016 – WELCOME PACKET Students Boarding at Belmont University Welcome to School of Nashville Ballet Summer Intensive 2016! We are pleased you will be joining us this summer This packet will help you plan your trip to Nashville and make preparations to stay on the Belmont University campus Please read all the material thoroughly and as always, if you have questions call the School Associate at 615-297-2966 ext 910 or contact via email at Summer@nashvilleballet.com We will send email updates beginning two weeks prior to the start of your session and will use the email address listed on your Student Contact Form (Page in the Registration Packet) ARRIVAL/DEPARTURE Students will live in Horrell Residence Hall (http://www.belmont.edu/reslife/) on the campus of Belmont University Horrel Hall is located on 15th Avenue South between Bernard Avenue and Compton Avenue View an interactive campus map here: http://www.belmont.edu/campusmap/campustour.html Session A1 Session A2 Session B Session B2 Session C Session D Session E Session PreProfessional Arrival / Check – In Sunday, June 1pm – 4pm Sunday, July 10 1pm – 4pm Sunday, June 1pm – 4pm Sunday, July 10 1pm – 4pm Sunday, June 19 1pm – 4pm Sunday, July 1pm – 4pm Sunday, June 19 1pm – 4pm Sunday, June 12 1pm – 4pm Departure / Check – Out Friday, June 10 – after classes end at 5pm Friday, July 15—after classes end at 5pm Friday, June 17 – immediately following 2:30pm performance Friday, July 22 – immediately following 2:30pm performance Friday, July – after classes end at 5pm or Saturday, July – morning departure preferred Friday, July 22 – immediately following 5:30pm final performance or Saturday July 23 – morning departure preferred Friday, July 22 – immediately following 5:30pm final performance or Saturday, July 23 – morning departure preferred Friday, July 15 – immediately following 5:30pm final performance or Saturday, July 16 – morning departure preferred Please complete the Travel Information form in your Registration Packet By Air – On each Arrival Day listed above, there will be a School of Nashville Ballet representative at the Nashville International Airport in baggage carousel at the following times: 10:00 am, 12:00 pm, 2:00 pm and 4:00pm approximately Please be prepared to wait for a shuttle Students arriving after 3pm are required to secure their own transportation to Belmont University Cabs are available at the airport SUMMER INTENSIVE 2016 – WELCOME PACKET Students Boarding at Belmont University By Car – Parking at Belmont University is free of charge and is available in the Curb Event Center Parking Garage only After unloading your luggage at Horrell Hall, you will be required to move your car to the Curb Event Center By Bus – Please complete the Travel Information form and a Nashville Ballet staff member will contact you to coordinate a pickup within the city of Nashville ACCOMODATIONS: Horrell Hall features four and five bedroom apartments with a kitchen area and bathroom The kitchen has a full size stove and refrigerator, microwave, and table and chairs Each bedroom is fully furnished with a bed, wardrobe, desk, and dresser The living room area has couch, arm chairs, coffee table, and TV stand The flooring is tile throughout the apartment Laundry services are available on the basement level ORIENTATION: Student Orientation will be held on Arrival Days at 6:00 p.m in the lobby of Horrell Residence Hall The chaperones will provide an overview of your stay, including information about the Belmont facilities, general rules and regulations, meals, class schedules, and weekend trips Orientation is for students only; we ask that parents not attend Students are responsible for their own meals on Arrival Days CHAPERONES: Chaperones will live in the dorms with the students for the duration of the Summer Intensive Our Chaperones’ primary duty is to supervise and oversee the students while in the dorms, in transit to and from Nashville Ballet, and on weekend outings KEY CARDS & DEPOSITS: Students are issued a room card and meal card upon arrival and must keep them in his/her possession at all times Students may not loan cards to anyone for any reason On arrival day, please bring two key card deposit checks made out to Nashville Ballet: one for $75 (room card) and one for $25 (meal card) Nashville Ballet will hold the deposit checks for the duration of the student’s stay and will only cash them if cards are lost If cards have not been lost, Nashville Ballet will destroy the checks upon student check-out SUMMER INTENSIVE 2016 – WELCOME PACKET Students Boarding at Belmont University MEALS: Students boarding at Belmont University will eat breakfast and dinner at Horrell Hall Catered lunches will be served at Nashville Ballet and are included in the cost of room and board Students are responsible for purchasing or bringing their own snacks or any additional food and drinks, which can be stored in Horrell’s apartment style housing with full kitchens We recommend having healthy snacks on hand for breaks in between classes We also recommend bringing a reusable water bottle for everyday use – Nashville Ballet is equipped with hydration stations where water bottles can be refilled Refrigeration is not available at Nashville Ballet studios; please use ice packs as needed Please note any food allergies or dietary needs on the medical form in your registration packet INTERNET CONNECTION: Students may bring laptops and tablets at their own discretion Each apartment is equipped with an internet connection and a wireless connection Ethernet cables are not provided; please bring your own cord if your device does not have wireless capabilities Nashville Ballet and Belmont University are not responsible for lost or stolen items MAIL: Mail and packages may be sent in care of the student to the following address Please not send mail or packages to Belmont University If larger packages need to be sent ahead of time, prior to a dancer’s arrival, it is recommended to send it so it will arrive to the address below no sooner than a week before the start of your session School of Nashville Ballet 3630 Redmon Street Nashville, TN 37209 TRANSPORTATION: Nashville Ballet will provide transportation to and from the studio for all classes and to and from all planned activities Students 18 and over with cars can drive themselves to the studio and other students 18 and over may ride along Students 18 and up may ride with non-dorming dancers but must adhere to all curfews All students under 18 will ride shuttles CLASSES All classes meet Monday through Saturday (excluding Session A) A placement class will occur on the first day of the summer intensive session (not Arrival Day) Class times will vary depending on the level you are placed in; all are approximately from 9am to 5pm Saturday classes will be held from approximately 10am to 12 noon SUMMER INTENSIVE 2016 – WELCOME PACKET Students Boarding at Belmont University Students are expected to attend all classes offered in their assigned level Any exceptions must have prior permission from the School Dean Class times are subject to change and will be posted on the Summer Intensive bulletin boards at the studio and residence halls WEEKEND ACTIVITIES: Summer Intensive chaperones will plan weekend activities that may take place on Belmont’s campus or in the Nashville community Many activities will be inexpensive, such as seeing a movie, walking to get ice cream, barbecuing, and visiting a museum or local shops Students are responsible for any costs associated with the activities, including ticket prices, meals, souvenirs, etc Two weeks prior to the start of your session, the Summer Intensive Coordinator will email more information on planned outings and estimated costs We recommend students not bring large amounts of cash to Summer Intensive Pre-loaded debit cards are best SUMMER INTENSIVE PERFORMANCES: On the final Friday of Sessions B, D, E & Pre-Professional, students will present a showcase of their work Family and friends are invited to attend free of charge Seating can be limited and is on a first-come, firstserved basis The Youth Programs Coordinator will email an RSVP request to each student’s family one week before the performance date Session B1 Performance Friday, June 17 at 2:00pm Session B2 Performance Friday, July 22 at 2:00pm Session D & E Performance Friday, July 22 at 2:00pm with repeat performance at 4:30pm Session Pre-Professional Friday, July 15 at 2:00pm with repeat performance at 4:30pm REQUIRED SUMMER INTENSIVE ATTIRE: Depending on the length of your session, you may want to bring additional pairs of the required tights, leotards, etc Paid laundry facilities are available in Horrell Hall Please observe the attire requirements - students will be asked to purchase appropriate attire if not properly dressed for class Ladies:        One white and one black simple camisole leotard (recommended style: Mirella M207LD) One white and one black chiffon wrap skirt (recommended style: Mirella MS12) Pink convertible tights (recommended style: Body Wrappers A45) Black convertible tights (recommended style: Body Wrappers A45) Black socks (cotton/poly) Pink ballet shoes and pointe shoes (if applicable) Black jazz shoes and black jazz pants SUMMER INTENSIVE 2016 – WELCOME PACKET Students Boarding at Belmont University Men:       Plain white crewneck t-shirt (no logos, please) White, simple style short-sleeve leotard Gray tights and black tights (we recommend footed and footless of each color) Black socks (cotton/poly) and white socks Black ballet shoes and white ballet shoes Black jazz shoes and black jazz pants GENERAL PACKING:                Lightweight, comfortable clothes for the daytime Light sweaters or jackets for the evening Toiletries Comfortable walking shoes Bathing suit and beach towel Sunscreen, bug repellant, umbrella Refillable water bottles Cell phone with alarm clock Make-up for performance & photo shoot session Sheets, pillows, pillowcases and blankets for twin size bed Towels (bath, hand, and washcloths) and bathrobe Laundry detergent and quarters for laundry Snacks and drinks Ziplock bags for icing or reusable ice pack Spending money for weekend activities (more details to come) We recommend contacting your roommates prior to the start of your session to discuss bringing and/or sharing cost of the following items Via email, our School Associate will provide roommate contact information two weeks prior to the start of your session Dancers age 18 and over, you will be assigned roommates at random; however upon arrival you are welcome to switch rooms to be with someone of your choice It will be your responsibility to organize this on your Arrival Day Students are responsible for keeping their apartments clean Belmont University does not provide cleaning services or cleaning supplies SUMMER INTENSIVE 2016 – WELCOME PACKET Students Boarding at Belmont University PLEASE NOTE! THE FOLLOWING ITEMS ARE NOT PROVIDED BY BELMONT UNIVERSITY             TV and DVD player for the living room area Movies Disposable plates, cups and cutlery Napkins and paper towels Coffee pot* Toaster* Cooking utensils* Cleaning supplies (Clorox wipes, toilet brush, toilet bowl cleaner) Trash can (kitchen and bathroom) Trash bags Swiffer or broom and dustpan Board games, cards, etc *Nashville Ballet does not recommend students under 16 bring or use electrical kitchen appliances or cooking tools Chaperones will monitor kitchen use
